Q: Intalling Windows Seven 64bits over Windows Seven 32bits

foke Possible Duplicate: Windows Vista 32-bit to Windows 7 64-bit upgrade? I'm upgrading a computer. Among other things it now has 8GB of memory instead of 2. Currently it runs Windows Seven 32bits, but to support that much memory I need to install the 64bits version. So here comes the que...

I say we reopen this question because the linked duplicate suggest users should reformat their harddrive to install a clean copy of Windows.
This however is not true. A custom install as suggested by Microsoft allows you to keep all your old data.
Of course, Microsoft still suggests you should backup your data, but you can perform a custom install and still keep your old data.
The old files are merely orphans in this case. Programs still have to be reinstalled.
Old user settings exist in orphaned files and have no association with your new install.

@Sathya Thanks, you are a champ.
@studiohack Psh, I was born with safety.

@surfasb well, I should've read the question more carefully, took "install over" to mean as upgrade

@Sathya I'm actually surprised how unknown the custom install option is among even power users.

yeah, custom install is generally what I do always

Heh, if we all were charged a dime for skimming over questions. . .

Q: Is Programming bad for eyesite?

WalkerneoI've only recently gotten into programming and have spent the past few days doing nothing but writing, and I think it may be having an effect on my eyes. Do any of the more experienced programmers have anything to say on the effects of staring at text on a screen for hours on end? Do most of yo...

Hilarious
If only after a few days your eye sight has been going bad, you got mad eye strain problems.
Better bump that font up.

Q: Prolonging the time between death and loading of the latest save game

Daniel BeckIs there a way to prolong the time between dying and the automatic loading of the last saved game? I'm currently jumping off the Throat of the World to see the rag doll physics and sometimes the game loads while the rag doll is still moving or even falling.

Hours of fun, right there!

I just finished Arkham City.. pretty awesome game

bah, stupid chat timing out on me

hello
I'm new here, I'm looking for some quick help
is anybody there?
I guess I'll leave my question here anyway
I'm new to linux and I'm trying to setup a small testing server inside of a VM running Ubuntu Server
I've found the /var/www folder and it should be the one where my apache documents are stored
in fact if I access my VM's IP I see the index.html page that's stored there
the problem is that I can't write to that folder
ls -l says:
d-w-r-xr-x 2 root root 4096 2011-12-28 16:08 ./
drwxr-xr-x 13 root root 4096 2011-12-28 17:02 ../
-rw-r--r-- 1 root root 177 2011-12-28 16:08 index.html
and my username is "gab"
what's the best thing to do now to allow me to edit and create files here? Should I create a new group or set myself as the owner of the folder?
Thanks in advance.

Anybody know exactly how screwed I am in Skyrim after having leveled from 10 to 21 by increasing Smithing only?
@GabrieleCirulli Check the Apache config. It should be easy to share some folder in a user's home directory as e.g. hostname/~username

7:53 PM
What would you consider more important: certifications or experience?

@Luke Depends on the certifications and the experience.

I'm trying to decide between getting my Network+, CCNA, or MCITP
Clippy was useless for that help...

@Luke Not exactly an SU topic ;)

8:11 PM
@Luke Get the Network+ first
@Luke Cause the CCNA is the widowmaker

guys, I swear i've googled this but I can't find where the heck nginx keeps its document root
where is it?

Damn touchscreens, accidentally down voted a perfectly good answer....
Can anyone think of a way to edit superuser.com/questions/372456/captive-portal-redirection-by-ip/… so I can remove the down vote?
