5:00 PM
ah! there's the minnow cat with a hook-tail.

No longer a kitten though. 3 years old is mature.

@Bob So u want skype?

Bob
@RoXaS bcdedit time!
@RoXaS I was more thinking photos :P
but lemme just get my bearings

HEY! NO SKYPE! ME JELLY!
Known Bobfox for years and never Skyped him. D:

Bob
I forgot the command syntax :\
@allquixotic I don't HAVE skype

5:01 PM
@Bob Google hangouts?

!! s/out/in/

@allquixotic @Bob Google hangins? (source)

*cackles* that just struck me as funny

Bob
ok
@RoXaS bcdedit /store C:\Boot\BCD
of particular interest are the device and osdevice fields
what do they say?
I'm expecting Unknown or similar

!! s/they/the fox/

5:03 PM
@allquixotic what do the fox say? (source)

too bad Windows' recovery environment isn't available over SSH

Bob
!!tell 17683821 foxno

then we could do an interactiveino on Gateone

:DD

5:04 PM
@Bob sec doing it

Bob
You were waiting for that weren't you :P

yup :D
hmm. I may write a MSU post about implementing unonebox in Cavil with a timeout of like 1-2 minutes

Bob
@allquixotic 2 min is the absolute limit
1.5 is safer

tKaajkR sounds like a Netherlandese word ;p
(I am intentionally using the wrong term for your language)
I imagine it would be pronounced like "yacker"

Bob
5:09 PM
it's got the right partition @_@

The proper Dutch spelling would be a 'Nederlands woord'.
Pretty close to english

@_@

Bob
damnit

so you call your own language Nederlands, but we're not allowed to call it Netherlandese? We have to call it Dutch? :D

its because of the germand
s

Bob
5:11 PM
@RoXaS Run bootrec /fixmbr, bootrec /fixboot, bootrec /rebuildbcd

ahh

It comes down to "the bloody Hollanders are eveil"
PS: If you want some real fun, Watch the one about Belgium.
Especially their capital

@Hennes I'm not sure i;ve watched that

Bob
@RoXaS Also run bootsect /nt60 C: /force /mbr
then restart into the USB again

5:13 PM
@Bob It asks to add installation to boot list

Evil fresh, perfect flemish and some germans iin one country.

on rebuildbcd

Bob
@RoXaS hm? the rebuildbcd?

yes

Bob
could you provide the exact wording?
or photo

5:14 PM
Ofcourse, I am slightly biased.

Succesfully Scanned windows Installations
Total Identifies WIndows Installations: 1
[1] C:\Windows
Add installation to boot list? Yes(Y)/No(N)/All(A): _

Bob
@RoXaS yes! :D

it needs a !!maybe in that list (Maybe(M))

-.-
Element not found

Bob
.

5:15 PM
that makes perfect sense

That made me cry a littl

Bob
ok, try bootsect /nt60 C: /force /mbr

Windowsium hasn't been officially named yet because element 311 (after Windows 3.11 for Workgroups of Physicists and Chemists) hasn't yet been discovered

Bootcode was suvvesfully updated on all targeted volumes
@allquixotic I think it's a very unstable element

Bob
@RoXaS just for kicks, load up diskpart
select the disk
list partition
select the Windows partition
detail partition
see if active is set
and run active just to make sure
then restart again (sorry!), boot to usb, and try startup repair

5:18 PM
active is yes initialy

Bob
actually...
if you want, could try bcdboot first

i'm game

Bob
bcdboot C:\Windows

oh exit diskpart first

Bob
yea, that helps :P
then restart... you can try to boot into Windows now

5:20 PM
failure when attempting to copy boot files

Bob
...
what

oh
waity
semicolon istead of :
my bad
eehm
it doesnt make a difference

Bob
try adding a /s C:
any luck?

yeah
Boot files succesfully created

Bob
I suspect it's being confused because you're booting from a flash drive, not a CD
anyway, restart now

5:23 PM
Idk
Okay I removed the usbb
and its booting
You hero

Bob
pray it succeeds
if not, well, at this point startup repair should hopefully work

THERES FIRE

Bob
@RoXaS where did it fail?

@RoXaS just FYI, Bob has been a hero in here repeatedly over the past couple of days, so it wouldn't exactly surprise me (even if it impresses me)

no jk
So far its booted

Bob
5:24 PM
@allquixotic I have? o.O
@RoXaS does it get to the login screen, perchance?

@Bob Yeah

@Bob the Cavil import, helping JMG with his nginx...

Bob
@RoXaS :O

It's there
I'm gonna call Bill gates and say i want a tool for this :P
I has succefully booted

Bob
ok, now if I were you I'd want to fix the original BCD
6
A: How can I repair or install startup repair/system recovery after BCD corruption?

BobAha! Fixed it! As I noted in the thread on Microsoft Answers I linked to, there was no entry for the Recovery Environment from bcdedit. There also wasn't one visible from EasyBCD. I did note they were in the registry, but they're shown by GUIDs there - not very navigable. Thanks to this answer'...

Visual BCD Editor.

5:27 PM
Wait wut
It boots now

Bob
The general process is opening both the new BCD and the backup, and comparing the two.

But it's not fixed?

Bob
@RoXaS Eh.. I'm not sure about Win8 with all its recovery environment changes
but the last time I did this with Win7, it broke the recovery environment

@Bob Aha

Bob
if you're happy with booting off a USB whenever you need WinRE, that works too

5:28 PM
How hard is it too fix it?

Bob
@RoXaS Do you still want to try to install another copy?

@Bob I see no point in quitting now :p

Bob
@RoXaS Your situation is somewhat different from mine, so I'm not certain...
@RoXaS Basically, load both the old and new BCDs and compare for differences.
If you can send the two over, I could take a look? I don't think there's anything particularly sensitive on there; just a few drive GUIDs possibly.

Like how hidden or those files

Bob
@RoXaS MS actually officially documented Windows multibooting, so... hopefully it'll be quite easy :P
@RoXaS The C:\BCD.backup and C:\Boot\BCD

5:31 PM
I'm just thinking of a way of sending them

Bob
Oh. Hm.
I used to have a file server set up... really need to get around to setting it up again

Especially cause I can't ven get to see them in explorer

Bob
@RoXaS You'd have to show hidden/system files

doesnt change a thing

Bob
That's in folder options somewhere
@RoXaS Did you show system files too? That's a separate option from hidden files

5:34 PM
nvm
found the setting

Bob
@RoXaS you have to actually go options => view => untick "hide protected operating system files"

@Bob Can't copy it because the file is in use...
-.-

Bob
@allquixotic could you check something on Spotify for me?
@RoXaS uhm...

@Bob Need anything in google play music?

Bob
@RoXaS cmd as admin, bcdedit /export C:\BCD.new
@RoXaS I just wanted to check if a greyed-out album here is country restricted

5:39 PM
tried some filesharing site

Bob
o.O

not sure if its working
Possibly
I missed it...

Bob
...I wonder if you got that

o_o

got it

Bob
5:41 PM
(I just realised having the @ address google-indexed isn't too smart)

hehe yeah
sent
And then It turn out Bob has planned this all out in an elaborate scheme to hack my laptop...
Only to be disappointed...
Because of the vast amount of porn hidden in the system32 folder

@Bob what is it?

Bob
@RoXaS Looks like most of the differences are insignificant.
Not really worth modifying, as long as it works.
Just keep the backup somewhere, in case

okay

Bob
@allquixotic Marit Larsen, artist. Any albums under her?
Now, onto the new installation :P

5:49 PM
Under the Surface
she's pretty

Bob
@allquixotic Album?
There's actually music under there?

yes 11 song album Under the Surface
none of the songs grayed

Bob
:(
She should have at least three albums there. They don't even appear on the apps for me, and the songs are greyed if I get there through Google.
@RoXaS Yea, I had Google Music before.
I actually have the music saved independently of Spotify, I just would've preferred them to have it too to keep everything in one place.

@Bob I got it because I broke my phone and went trough a series of replacements

5:51 PM
@Bob only one in the U.S.
hey, I like the first song I'm listening to of this album
maybe our music compatibility isn't as terrible as Last.fm suggests

Bob
lol

I like a huge variety of stuff

Bob
TBH, I prefer her other two albums. UTS is good too.

what tends to drive people away from me as far as Last.fm is concerned is that I like music in Spanish, French, Portuguese, Italian, Catalan and Neapolitan, and last.fm is like "that's nothing like anything this guy likes"

Bob
5:53 PM
xD

Onward!

Bob
I tend to listen to a fair bit of Japanese stuff.
...mostly from anime soundtracks. Despite never actually watching any.

@_@
I went through an Anime Phase 10 years ago (feels like 10,000 years ago) when I was a Little Kid (17-18) and my GF and I (I didn't just say that, did I? !!no) were into anime

Bob
o.o

ahh

5:54 PM
then again, 10(,000) years ago I didn't weigh a billion tons, either :)

@allquixotic Well go for it

Bob
@RoXaS Anyway, the installation procedure looks pretty simple.

@OliverSalzburg Use "site:" to find out.

Bob
>

On the Which type of installation do you want? page, click Custom.

On the Where do you want to install Windows? page, select the partition or disk where you want to install the new Windows operating system.

Be sure to install Windows on a different partition from the one where the earlier version of Windows is installed.

Click Next to begin the installation. You might see a compatibility report.

maybe I could gravitationally attract a gas giant or a white dwarf with my newfound size

Bob
5:55 PM
...that's about it :P
Incidentally, I need to get out more. And/or eat less.

@allquixotic Are you a neutron star?

@RoXaS no, I'm a red giant

@allquixotic Neutron stars are way cooler
Despite being hotter

-_-
yeah, but neutron stars don't care about anything

5:57 PM
their standard answer to anything is "meh"

@allquixotic meh..

gas giant: "I'm positive that we should orbit each other! :D"
neutron star: "meh"

I never knew the people in super user were so great

maybe a neutron star would like a negative Nancy instead

the programmers on stackoverflow are a little arrogant

5:59 PM
!! s/a little//

@allquixotic the programmers on stackoverflow are arrogant (source)
