3:00 PM
@Bob lol

you're pretty fast to get that :D

@allquixotic: I think its cause of the "This is why we can't have nice things" incident
Ironically, THAT IS WHY WE CANNOT HAVE NICE THINGS.

@Bob I think that model is only available in india
well that is sad for me :p

நாங்கள் நல்ல விஷயங்களை செய்ய முடியும் ஏன் இந்த உள்ளது.

3:02 PM
by the way can you guys hack the password of rar

Q: The automated Stack Exchange / Feeds user is now participating in chat

Kendall FreyWell, the robots are here. User -2 that goes by "Stack Exchange" or "Feeds" has been posting conversational chat messages. See recent Stack Overflow chat messages and recent Stack Exchange chat messages. Is this an easter egg, or has the bot truly become sentient?

@allquixotic OMG, you can talk in that language, so can you in Punjabi or Hindi?

Bob
@avirk ?

@allquixotic: "we can do nice things this included"

Bob
3:03 PM
so you mean these BIOSes won't work?

roughly ;p

@Bob I mean that is the latest version I installed and nothing changes

better? :P

ooh. @avirk: You need to check if your power cord got recalled.

3:04 PM
@JourneymanGeek hahaha wow that's not a very good translation

@allquixotic now please don't speak Chinese or Japanese

@allquixotic: tamil, telungu (I think. Malaylam?) and random devanagari scripts?
@allquixotic: It ALMOST makes sense.

@JourneymanGeek Tamil, Telugu, Hindi and Punjabi ;p

ya ;p
I can recognise southern scripts more or less

A: Jon Skeet's broken the C# tag stats page formatting on SO!

gnostradamusEven with the recent switch to k notation, it's still on the verge of breaking again! This is why we can't have nice things!

3:05 PM
My mom can read a few, she was a police brat ;p

@allquixotic but translation changes the positions of words at the right place :D
@JourneymanGeek can't we program to hack this Insyde bios thing to make life easier :D

the Spanish translation is great: Esto es por qué no podemos tener cosas bonitas.
这就是为什么我们不能有好东西。
go, @Bob, go! :P

can anyone hack that rar password?

Bob
3:09 PM
@allquixotic ...I have no idea -_-

@avirk sure! give me an extra-large EC2 Compute cluster for a couple weeks and a patch for distributed rarcrack, and I'll hack it in no time.
got $350 or so? :P

@allquixotic lol, use torrent man :D

might be able to do it with the c3.8xlarge

okay give me away to bypass the survey to download the password file for that rar

I'm not touching those links with a 10 foot fiber optic cable
especially not on this PC

3:12 PM
this is where i have to survey to get that file and I want to bypass

just take the survey! fill in nonsense

I'm not touching too, just looking at them, and they are freaking hell

Bob
@allquixotic I've tried that before with this bullshit

@allquixotic really you think so man, that is the hard thing to believe :P

Bob
in the end, it never progresses anyway
unless you're really lucky and stumble on one that works
...but if you were lucky there wouldn't be a survey-wall in the first place

3:14 PM
@Bob you're right, they always stuck to there, and says try another if you have not got passed the one :D
@Bob I heard we can bypass it but have no tool yet or any good idea to make it bypass :D

rarcrack will eventually find the password through brute force, but it will take a long time

@allquixotic and my pc and power have not that time to see it :'(

EC2 c3.8xlarge instances have the equivalent of 2 x Xeon E5-2680v2 CPUs available to them, and cost 25 cents per hour as spot instances in Northern Virginia.. you could install rarcrack on eight of them or so and tell them all to do random passwords and it would find it for about $2.50

3:16 PM
@allquixotic ah man, not that too much but can't pay using my cards :D

Bob
@allquixotic Or use one of the GPGPU ones

@Bob can rarcrack work on the GPU? I didn't know

Bob
@allquixotic not rarcrack, but there's others

looks like

3:17 PM
that is the blog I tried to edit the screen but never got succeed to see the .ROM file in paint

@Bob like...?
:D :D :D

Bob
> 1996, cRARk 1.0 - just first RAR cracker
2006, cRARk 3.0 - fastest recovery of RAR 3.0 passwords
2009, cRARk 3.2 - world's first CUDA-aware RAR password recovery
2011, cRARk 3.4 - world's first OpenCL-aware RAR password recovery
2011, cRARk 5.0 - world's first RAR 5.0 password recovery
that's a long history O_O
if they used a really long one though, you're screwed

lol
ya
"You need RAR 5.0 to unpack these files!" Yanno what would be evil?

Bob
> No milti-core support, only one CPU or GPU is used

3:21 PM
wow, GPU instances are cheaper than CPU instances

Bob
...what, they use a single GPU core?

That would suck

6.5 cents per hour per GPU instance for 1500 CUDA cores
download the rar and crark to my box, .tar.xz them, host them over http; install Amazon default AMI with CUDA/OpenCL support to a dozen or so G2 instances on EC2; hack hack hack; ???; profit!
profit waste! (money)
> I'm currently on my third OCZ Vertex 3. SSDs though very very fast, are simply not very durable, so expect to replace them every few months.
!!no

this is a Samsung 850 Pro. I won't be replacing it every few years even.
way more durable than OCZ crap

3:28 PM
;p

Bob
@allquixotic OCZ eww
Mine's a Samsung 840 EVO. Not as good as the Pro - it uses TLC.
But it can still last a damn long time.

My 840 is over a year old ;p
I think

Bob
@JourneymanGeek Standard, EVO or Pro?

Standard

Bob
Ah.

3:31 PM
evo wasn't out then
and it was a contest prize, and within 200usd ;p

if Samsung ever comes out with a Pro series 2 TB SSD, less than $1k, I'm going to see about buying 4 of them and putting them in RAID 10... pleasedon'thateme
that will be the end of all storage problems, ever

Morning all

Overkill :P

hmm, for 99 USD plus 52 cents per hour, I could crack RARs with 12640 CUDA cores and the equivalent CPU power of 4 x Xeon E5-2680v2
wonder how many decades it would take that to crack a 12-character password

3:36 PM
When I last checked my desktop, a mere 100GB SSD cache had a 97.5% hit rate

@DarthAndroid doing what? web browsing? I'm talking about Star Citizen and such :P
...ok, there's no "such". just Star Citizen. -_-

Bob
I can't use Samsung Magician with SRT enabled :(

@Bob never trust anything Samsung that's portrayed as magical

I'm talking about my whole desktop over a 5-day period. Background services, web browsing, gaming, programming

Bob
@DarthAndroid How did you check the hit rate? What did you use to cache?
@allquixotic Eh, it's the only way (apart from SMART) to look at NAND wear and amount of spare blocks left.

3:38 PM
@Bob I used FancyCache after my 64GB SSD died (and I could no longer use IntelSRT) because I only had a 120GB SSD available
it provides full cache statistics
But it does not persist between reboots

Bob
@DarthAndroid Huh. I'm using SRT with a 250 GB SSD.

I thought SRT was capped at 64GB

Bob
It can only use up to a 64 GB volume though.

did they change that?
ah

Bob
The rest of it I can use as I see fit.

3:39 PM
time to have some Dal Bukhara ;D soonish

I didn't realize it could do that, not sure if they added it later or not
FancyCache provided this though: romexsoftware.com/images/FancyCache-ui-perfmon.png

Bob
@DarthAndroid Yea, I was just complaining earlier about the lack of stats from SRT :P
I considered FancyCache. But SRT works as it is now, so I'll probably just leave it.
Added benefit of not being beta/180-day :P

Yeah, exactly.

Bob
You can see above that SRT does some weird volume splitting.
The system only sees the data volume.
And, no, it's not actually RAID 0

Is it RAID 0 with one disk?
;)

Bob
3:42 PM
I have an additional 8192GB dedicated to Rapid Start
which works pretty well
sleep => IRSTRT wakes it up (after a timer if desired) and hibernates to the SSD

If it's already asleep, is there that much benefit to hibernating it?
(assuming it's used regularly)

Bob
@DarthAndroid Laptop. Battery.

Bob
I don't even bother sleeping my desktop.
Some people are perfectly happy with sleep on the laptop, but that's a risk of losing data.
And hybrid sleep on a HDD is worse than Rapid Start with a SSD.

O_o
this can't be! I have less physical memory pressure with Chrome than with Pale Moon!
the world is broken

Bob
3:58 PM
uh
same things open? o.O

Harsh... But true for programmers vs doctors: qr.ae/bbHq1

Once in a while, Quora actually sends me a decent list of questions
What are some of the funniest lies that parents have told their children?
1.) My brother told his twin boys when they were in diapers that both he and their mother loved them very much but what their mother loved most of all was changing their diapers. It was her very specialist in the whole world job of taking care of them. My brother never had to change their diapers again as they insisted that their mom be allowed to do it.
2.) From the time he could talk, my nephew was told by his mom that he was allergic to alcohol. She'd tell him the story of how he almost died when taking cough s

So it's USH? Unsecure Shell
vim /etc/ush/ushd_config
> #This is the default; recommend users do not change this
AllowAnonymousRootLogin yes
> #DANGEROUS!!! Users might not understand the concept of PKI; use with extreme caution
RequirePublicKeyAuthentication no

lol
is a FuckedString just a pointer to a COM bstr with a local static copy of the data, wrapped in a Ruby string, marshalled into Java via JNI?
that would be pretty fucked in my opinion
@Bob Uh oh... Seagate just shipped the first 8 TB HDD

Bob
o.O

Is there any way to skip origin updates ?
Steam's update can be skipped, this origin doesn't allow me to :'(

Bob
Yes: don't install Origin.

@Bob I wanna download BF3
I have disk space ^_^

4:24 PM
@CanadianLuke #2 is genius... well, so is #1

@Kate I like the last

@CanadianLuke #3 could scar a child ;)
but I do admit it is clever

I wish I could remember who turned me to Quora...

4:36 PM
just my little contribution to the SSD cache screenie contest
that's gimp, Virtualbox (just the UI, no VMs running), RegexBuddy, Eclipse, GIMP, IE, 10 tabs in Chrome, Windows Explorer, and <redacted>

only one copy of gimp; ignore my redundant listing of it
notice the sweet commit charge ;-)

Bob
o.O

even with a 50% overcommit of RAM (with the remaining data paged out to disk), the black squares of paged-out textures get rendered no longer than 1/2 second after I maximize a window that's been inactive for some time.
and that's for heavy things like Eclipse!
and "other"... RCP-based things... >_>

Bob
Ok, I just moved my page file to the SSD

4:45 PM
@allquixotic I'm missing something or you mentioned gimp twice?

8 mins ago, by allquixotic
only one copy of gimp; ignore my redundant listing of it
why did you intentionally choose to "miss" my message requesting you to ignore the redundant listing? X_X

@allquixotic because I'm human
...?

Bob
hm

5:02 PM
Ogre or troll?

@Bob you named your vehicle broken rocket parts strewn across the launchpad?

Bob
@allquixotic Not mine, unfortunately :P

7:09 PM
@Bob they must have been... "experimenting" with barrels full o' boom
perhaps they figured out a way to rip launch stabilizers right out of the ground by using enough boom

Why people find these funny? youtube.com/watch?v=jmArh-Wn4ko

On August 25, 2014 there was an outage of all Stack Exchange sites (Q&A sites as well as Careers) from 7:26 pm to 7:32 pm UTC (approximately 6 minutes). The cause was an incorrect change to network firewall configuration - specifically, iptables running on our HAProxy load balancers. While attempting to make a change enabling streamlined access for our web servers to internal API

9:13 PM
@HackToHell I'm pretty sure BF3 won't let you play it without logging into Origin first.

hey pup

that a new type of URI schema?
woofhttp

Dog internet!

@JourneymanGeek debarking sounds terrible :(
what, they rip their vocal chords out?

pretty much :/

11:19 PM
do you live there?

not my neighbourhood no
(and besides, most of my neighborhood would probably be very cross at anyone who did that. Everyone knows Ash or "That little tamil speaking dog" ;p)

@JourneymanGeek lol
!! s/Ash/me/

@allquixotic (and besides, most of my neighborhood would probably be very cross at anyone who did that. Everyone knows me or "That little tamil speaking dog" ;p) (source)

is Ash obedient?

Not really
But he's well behaved ;p

11:22 PM
lol
so he's basically a cat

lol
kinda sorta
he makes his own rules ;p
(for example, 'we' didn't toilet train. Just that a day or two after we properly adopted him. he decided going poo poo in the house was terrible, and he prefered at least knee length grass)

lol
it sounds like he lives a very happy life, not having to be restrained by many rules
theres some doggie porn for him ;p

;p
Ash dosen't have owners, he has family ;p

that dog looks like it's taking a 0.2 ms break between repeated barks just for the camera

XD
Westies can get loud

11:36 PM
small dogs are reasonably popular here, but the ones that you hear barking loudly outside in the neighborhood tend to be at least 80 or 90 pound dogs. german sheperds and such
standard poodles are reasonably popular too

westies are underground dogs. The loud barks are in case they get stuck
and they don't allow anything outside a small list in apartments
Ahh there. Edited a specific answer into a more general one
@allquixotic: To quote a lady who came to my dad's office "Thanks for tieing up your other dog"
She assumed the barking came from something gigantic, not a small sweet looking wauzer ;p

lol
> FYI I AM A WOLF
sheep: OK OK we'll go this way! jeez

11:53 PM
collies are awesome dogs ;p

I just think it's funny that the dog knows he has to act like a wild wolf to scare the sheep
but he's a silly dog to his human owners
like he shares a secret with them :P "lol guys of course I'm not a wild wolf! :P"

"those stupid sheep think I am though!"

There's one at the dog park that jumps up and insists on being carried ;p
Collies are funny dogs tho
With a good owner, they're awesome dogs, very laid back
but some of the agility training dogs arn't socialized, and they're neurotic as hell
(and for god's sake, socialise your dog. It actually works wonders with behaviour!)

If I got a dog, I would consider a Collie

11:57 PM
I love dogs but I'll always own a cat

;p
My parents resisted getting a dog for years cause it was 'too much work'
