Q: Suggested edits Review page shows the user who proposed the edit as Anonymous user

SathyaThe past few hours or so, I've seen a huge spike in proposed suggested edits by Anonymous users correcting the grammar & actually fixing the posts. : Going by past trends, this isn't... right. After approving the edit, taking a look at the permalink of the edit suggestion shows the actual ...

@JourneymanGeek 54 questions tagged "make" o.O

@Sathya (If talking about my username) Hoping Google will pick up on it / index my good answers if someone types my name as Wil is to generic!

12:08 PM
@WilliamHilsum ah

i could never do that XD
having a seperate online identity (well identities) is something i got used to ;p

12:27 PM
@JourneymanGeek hehe, ok mr journeyman! It was never an issue for me as I never tried to hide my real name... I am terrible at remembering aliases!

lol
geek is my public online identity...
i also get called that by friends ;p
i have..
lets see...
3 others ;p

@Wil, do you have experience with PRI's?

Never heard of PRI :/

Primary Rate Interface?
T1 card used for VOIP
dang...

12:34 PM
sorry, never really touched T1/ISDN and stuff...
(just Googled it!)

never-mind then....
I will but you are like an encyclopedia...

is there anything generic I can help with? educated guess!?
@David sorry, I mean't I Googled it to find out T1/ISDN related!

ahh!! lol
gotcha
well... we have a pbx server that controls the phone system at my work
we are having a weird static on outbound calls
not internal calls though...
which is weird because T1's are digital and not analog.
so where the hell is the static coming from?!

hmm....

My boss is like FIX IT. I'm like where do I look?!

12:37 PM
your right, makes no sense :/
any drop in bandiwdth recently or something that may effect the quality?
or, remember, it has to go to analogue eventually... it is possible that your sip/whatever provider are having issues with their lines

plausibly... We have all 23 channels, so I think that would be the only way I could check bandwidth...
We don't get internet through that T1...
just voice

I think it is most likely an issue with the sip/line provider rather than your connection
if you mean static as in bad line noise rather than echo/bad "digital" noises
can't really explain, but I hope you know what I mean... noises that sound like one of those old robotic voice changers!

yes, no echo.
no not one of those
its like a bag of chips on the line
ya no what I mean?

yeah, bad analogue line...

I better call AT&T then...
crap...
thanks a lot
I really appreciated it.

12:41 PM
I think your telecom provider needs to look at it... remember, any digital line on most providers get converted to analogue in a pbx
no problem

wait...
so the pbx server might be bad?
due to it switching to analogue in the server?

sorry, I mean, PBX their end... telco's switchboard/exchange

never mind you are still thinking the T1 provider.
ok
thanks!
AT&T is probably going to burn up my day. :/ o well. You are a lot of help @WilliamHilsum

e.g. BT in England, if you have an ISDN connection, 30 lines, it is digital to the cabinet/exchange, but, then it is 30 physical copper lines..
each that can go wrong...
but, a lot has changed since I last looked! ... I think they are the best people to help
no problem

well...
in the US
we get 23 channels.
one data channel
You guys are lucky in England...
better T1's

12:47 PM

Q: Outlook 2010 is all problems

I've been trying to figure out what is actually wrong in that one @tombull89

@WilliamHilsum it fixed itself...
isn't that weird?

While I was on hold for the provider, someone else made a call to test it again and it was fixed.

@David: did anyone leave the area?

12:52 PM
I can't have them test it if there is no problem...
@JourneymanGeek what do you mean?
No but more people have arrived at the building...

The Pauli effect is a term referring to the apparently mysterious anecdotal failure of technical equipment in the presence of certain people. The term was coined using the name of the Austrian theoretical physicist Wolfgang Pauli. The Pauli effect is not to be confused with the Pauli exclusion principle, which is a bona fide physical phenomenon. History Since the 20th century, the work of physics research has been divided between theorists and experimentalists (see scientific method). Only a few physicists, such as Enrico Fermi, have been successful in both roles. Lacking an aptitude or in...
hm, reverse Pauli effect!

LMAO!

I seem to suffer from the "Reverse Palui" effect more that I care for...

That would be hilarious.

I got myself two spare modem-routers (wireless)! Anyone know a great purpose :D?

12:54 PM
what sort?

@BloodPhilia Wireless Bridge? Range Boosters? m0n0wall/Tomato/DD-WRT them up?

@JourneymanGeek Fritz!boxes

@tombull89: proper IT folk do.
@BloodPhilia: ominous name

@JourneymanGeek It's quite an awesome brand!
Great quality! And they never fail

ahh, never seen em here

12:55 PM
Lots of "expert" options too!
They're quite common here!

I have a WRT54GL and a 2wire modem/router at home, and a 2wire in the office ._.

But what should I do with them D:?

It has a USB port to use it as a NAS or print server

depends on your situation, really
what do you need? ;p

12:57 PM
2 VOIP telephone ports
4 LAN ports

@BloodPhilia offer them as a prize for SU blog post?

@tombull89 LOL!
Why would I do that xD?

well, you wanted suggestions and you didn't say anything about my previous ones :P

@tombull89 Oh lol! But I have no use for them as such :(

well, if you can flash the firmware, you could... spy on people with it ;p

12:59 PM
@JourneymanGeek Lol xD!

Provide free wireless for your neighbourhoo...wait, bigblackman/my name is lisa?

lol
see, its not neighbourly to make them SEARCH for porn...
you should modify it.. to link to nothing but porn.

Found this :D

Of computer hardware.

1:58 PM
Mhmmm, upsidedownternet
I have a laptop with everything set up on it
All you do it plug it into the network, type the IP address of the target computer into the ARP spoof box, and the let it go to town
no outside configuration needed.

It also does blurrinet and twirlynet
blurrinet at really low levels is the best, though
because it takes people so long to realize what's happening.

Pixenet with slow-loading images; everything looks like a progressive JPEG.

So... what do you guys do with your 10-year-old laptops?

2:04 PM
And I just killed the convo again.

Sigh, I think this guy has missed the point of SVN, but hey ho...

Q: Is there a sort of SVN for files from laptop and external HD?

markzzzI have a collection of files on laptop, with many folder and subfolders. At the same time, I'd like to do a backup of this collection on my external HD. But browse both path every time is inconvenient. So I'd like manage only one scenario (the one on laptop) and sometimes update my hd with a so...

lol
the last one i had?
used it until someone dropped it and it stopped working

:( That's no fun.

1400x1050 15 inch screen ;p

This one is 1024x768 12" with 256mg of ram

it can actually load up photoshop 7 in wine!
T20 here ;)

The X220, is that one of their ultra-thins?
or am I thinking of something else...?

2:12 PM
newish model, just came out a few months ago

I have a MBP I bought off my roommate a year ago

i have a cameraless version with the second mini pci-e slot empty
hmm, and a wireless card that's not usual to this model
the joys of corporate bulk buy laptops ;p

This be spam, yes?

Yup.
(then delete the link so it's not cached after)

All this fancy ability to rewrite history.

2:16 PM
lol

It's like... time traveling!

We are! WE ARE ALL GOING FORWARDS IN TIME!

it's not any special pills either, it's generic ones.

well, times are bad.
@DarthAndroid: the X220 tends to follow me everywhere. I have the r61 mainly cause it has some software my dad lost the disk for, else it'd convert it to an experimental setup-rig

redownload the disks? :P

2:20 PM
lol
i can't quite find the software (protools)
silly thing is its linked to a bit of hardware so... the company that makes it has nothing to loose from letting people download it ;p

MIDI recording?

protools for the mbox2
i have a newer interface, but its got less inputs
who'd have thunk
there's places that have it.... which i shall not mention here ;)
and i can test it on the other laptop, since if it works, i can back up and wipe it with impunity ;)

2:40 PM
i'll need to upgrade it anyway, i need at least 8.04 for it to work on win 7, so the dodgyness bothers me less

2:54 PM
ahh joy, got my rep back to a nice flat number ;)

5979 :(
At least they're all odd :x

I got to 666 on M.SO last night >:-D

hmm, what should we do with that question? (or more specifically, its answers)

Q: How to sync bookmarks between Firefox, Chrome, and Safari on multiple computers?

Tai SquaredThere are some similar question on bookmark syncing, but most answers point to Delicious or Google bookmarks. However, as Chrome doesn't have the Google toolbar, how would those sync? I use several computers and different browsers on them so I would like a easy solution to keep all of the bookm...

what about it @slhck

viewed: 59,767 times o.O

3:05 PM
it's the question that is always referred to as the duplicate whenever something like "bookmark sync" comes up
but look at the answer
it doesn't even mention both chrome and firefox have built in sync now
its latest edit is from 2009 (!)
oh well, I mean somebody could post an answer and then we'd all agree to upvote that (but of course as a CW) to get it to the top :P

I'm about halfway to 10k rep! :D

@slhck still won't be an accepted answer though, will it? :/

@tombull89 Nope, but considering that there's really not a lot of useful answers there anyway..
@MarkSzymanski go go go!

3:14 PM
@slhck Fair point. I'd be interested in seeing if theres a service that does bookmarks (and documents would be nice too, almost dropbox-like) but using your own web space.

There's an old PHP script for web-based bookmarks, but it's long since unmaintained.

well, who wouldn't love to run their own Dropbox server :P
anyway, gotta go again, see you around

Bye, @slhck. Take care.

Does anyone else think this sounds too much like homework help?

Q: VLSM help required

user68062I have confused myself following a VLSM tutorial and need to get my understanding confirmed, would this be the correct format, or am i away off again 172.31.0.0 VLSM this network address for as many subnetworks as possible, with no more than 14 hosts in each subnetwork. Show the subnet mask used...

Seems a bit like it to me, @Iszi.

5:14 PM
Me wants!

Hehe.

@MarkSzymanski What :P

Nothing XD

5:40 PM
Anyone need a web-design ;D?

Is it free? :D

@DarthAndroid Erm, no... but we can discuss the price :D

I'm broke right now, just bought the server!

@DarthAndroid What server?

The one the website would presumably be running on ;)
( Among many other things. Upgrading my home server. )

5:49 PM
@DarthAndroid What kinda website :P?

server management.

@DarthAndroid You run a server management business then? :D

nono.
I'm mostly just joking around, I'm afraid.

@DarthAndroid oh...?
Okay xD

my only need for a website right now would be to manage my home server via browser
like DD-WRT's web interface, or cpanel :P
but there's not a lot of design in volved

5:51 PM
@DarthAndroid Teehee okay XD

and it's not ever going to happen, but I'm dreaming :D

Friday has been taken offline again! xD

6:23 PM
@BloodPhilia Link?

6:53 PM
@paradroid I don't have one designed yet! But I could for a small fee :D
I just had some spare time left and I'm pretty much broke haha!
Not trying to advertise XD

7:07 PM
@BloodPhilia as per comments here are you aware your (presumably templated?) comment contains an & not an &?
not the first time I've seen it, IIRC

7:24 PM
@DarthAndroid: webmin.com

Mhmm, I've seen webmin, but haven't really gotten into it.

@DMA57361 Thanks!

This week, Jeff and Joel are joined by Greg Wilson, an author, developer, and former university professor, who is also an expert on open source software development. Once make it through the jokes and get his mic sounding great, we can jump in and explore all kinds of interesting topics, like:

Thanks for joining us again this week – join us next Tuesday @ 4pm when our guest is Steve Karantza (aka Shirlock Homes on DIY.StackExchange). We’ll be live at livestream.com/stackexchange – see you then! …

ugh, why do I have to live in the country with the most public holidays evarrrr :<
means I can't even buy breakfast tomorrow

@slhck I've not been to Austria, but whenever I eat breakfast in Germany, it is mostly cheese and slices of salami and priscuttio, and stuff like that, so it does not seem very hard to make yourself
What do you usually have? Don't you eat Alpen over there, lol

@paradroid Yeah that's typically German -- but I've run out of everything and that means not even cereals because I've got no milk :D
Well we eat.. bread with butter and marmalade mostly

Wonders if marmalade cereals would taste well...

New goal: Accumulate enough answers that I can passively hit the rep cap each day through upvotes from people finding my old answers and upvoting them.

heh @TomWijsman You mean like crunchy cereals with marmalade in them?

10:29 PM
No, just mix them together because you've got no milk...

At hotels here there are two choices: 'Continental', which is like coffee and a croissant, and then there is the 'Full English', which is probably the most unhealthy breakfast ever devised (apart from the Scots, of course)

@DarthAndroid Sounds like you want to be the Jon Skeet of SU!
@paradroid Been there, done that lol
(Scotland, that is)

@DarthAndroid: That would be over 9000 answers!

@TomWijsman That gives me aching teeth immediately

I just noticed that while I was absent from the site (dec - may '11), I still was getting ~ 10rep / 2 days from people stumbling across my answers and upvoting them.

10:32 PM
@DMA57361: Too much blue in the FAQ, and I don't like how they hided the other sites. But oh well, it's still useful in other ways...

lol
@DarthAndroid So where have you been while you were absent?
(If I may ask)

Mostly just dealing with school
Didn't have a whole lot of time to spare

So how's CS at UTexas?

Pretty good.

10:38 PM
@TomWijsman That black basic theme has really made my desktop look a lot better. I use Aero, but a lot of my apps don't fit in, as they come through RemoteApp, so now they look a lot nicer

@paradroid: Yeah, got the same feeling but then without Aero. :)

@DarthAndroid I think we've had some contact with some people from Austin once

I also like how it makes screenshots better:

yeh

@slhck I'm in Austin now for my internship, actually.

10:40 PM
Clear title, no attention to the window buttons, no annoying transparency, borders contrast well with the post background...

(I'm not actually at UTexas, which generally referrs to the school in Austin; I'm going to UT Dallas; Not sure how familiar you are with Texas geography.)

@DarthAndroid Oh okay, well a bit, been to Arizona once and have a few friends over there
so I had some time to check out the south/southwest on the map etc :P

@slhck Ah, nice. University of Texas is considered the main school in Austin, probably known more for the football team than anything else in specific, but is all around a good and well-ranked school. University of Texas at Dallas is in Dallas (NE of Austin), and is well known for it's computer science / engineering schools and research. But they have no football team, so still not many know too much about it.
Alright, I'm headed out, you peeps take care :)

@DarthAndroid Aah, now I see. To be honest I wouldn't be able to name a single football team. :D
Bye @DarthAndroid!
