I put my computer into a DMZ so that I could host a server for a little while. (Port Forwarding was not working in my version of DD-WRT that I had installed on my router.) After a little while someone made a connection to my computer via Re...

So how do you know you're completely addicted to SU? You get out of bed, put on your glasses, write a 1400 words answer , and then have breakfast and take a shower :P
Update: this experiment is now deployed, and can be experienced as the main /faq on all sites. We feel even with the current content (well, there were a handful of mild tweaks) this new format is superior.
We are still teasing out the content issues, so you can expect the /faq content to ...
There are 8 Bits to a Byte.
How mow many data (Megabytes per second) can I transfer on my 100 MBit network?
100 MBit per second, or 12.5 MB per second, theoretically. The real transmission rate is lower. It depends on several factors, such as electromagnetic interferences, transmission prot...
the newer ones... do USB audio and ASIO, so i'm not stuck with protools - hell i think they are usable on linux. The mbox 2... had odd ASIO support, and no USB audio support - but were still nice
@slhck Well, that's true - I do get a bit irritated by people who seem to use the site as a lazy way to get someone else to do a Google search for them.
@slhck: also, nice answer to the codec question - I believe people use AVI/xvid when they want smaller files, with lower resolution - MKV tends to be high def. It might be force of habit, and good compatability with older or crappier devices. its a bit of the mp3 of video codecs/containers ;)
@JourneymanGeek Thank you! Exactly. I'm still so frustrated over device vendors that can't manage to get a h.264 video streaming from one box to the other. But my 1990ies AVI files work. Duh.
Damn. Perfect example of my stellar reading ability. "votes and flags are off". They do age off, I noticed that, but still lead to me contributing to closing questions after a day or so.
@slhck: streaming? no. i think part of the issue is the rockbox chips so many cheap PMPs have. its 'cheap' to decode compared to h.264, so even a crappy processor can handle it.
@jdebp fyi you've been getting the Markdown syntax incorrect, you don't need quotes ["Problem with Ctrl-Left/Right bindings in oh-my-zsh"](superuser.com/questions/301029) - it should be [Problem with Ctrl-Left/Right bindings in oh-my-zsh](superuser.com/questions/301029)

I find it weird that he makes assumptions and doesn't verify them. The time spent writing up such a long question could be better spent in research and writing a smaller question with more details...
If anyone is interested in Gmail/Outlook, this was driving my clients mad, and I had problems finding solutions... blog.williamhilsum.com/2011/06/… How to speed up Gmail access in Outlook
@WilliamHilsum I have my phone IMAP'd (so I get GMail when on the move), and the PC set to POP (with the account set to archive those downloaded, so I can still get them on the phone) - but if you've multiple "full use" devices then you're in trouble
@WilliamHilsum I've never had a single dupe with POP3 & GMail that I'm aware of :/
Really? before I did IMAP on my server (not Gmail), my brother and my devices used to get problems all the time as if you delete in one, it doesn't always delete in the other..
and mark read/unread obviously never worked... I suppose, if you work on a 0 inbox basis it doesn't matter, but, I don't delete and it was a nightmare!
I will :D this way I have to do exactly nothing and stuff that's made it to my PC is auto cleared from the phone (well, not really, but I don't see it unless I go hunting) for maximum lazy
@SimonSheehan I have just updated the topology diagram for one of our sites and cancelled a transfer between two systems as it brought down all our VPNs!! Apart from that...
@SimonSheehan The fun was getting back on to the remote site to stop the transfer because the normal route is via one of the VPNs so I had to do the following: VPN from desktop PC to Linux server at home
@slhck It'd be a LOT harder. You have to do your own taxes for business, benefits, profits cannot always be stable... theres a lot to it, so you have to applaud those who do do it
@SimonSheehan Yeah, I personally couldn't do it. I'd procrastinate all day long. Without at least one person telling me what to do, I'd end up doing nothing :P
@SimonSheehan Well I am employed in the frame of a project, which again is funded by the EU or the government, or whatever. So, my supervisors (professors) set a goal for that project, and I'm there to do the dirty work :)
And when that project is over I'll have to look for another job
But basically it involves researching, as in: Reading through tons of papers, defining experiments, writing papers, going to conferences, et cetera
@slhck oh i'd love to do that kind of thing, but theres NOTHING around here. Even the tech stores will not hire people who don't have some experience working on commission. So it looks like ill be stocking shelves in a grocery store or something
@SimonSheehan That's very interesting as well. I guess you'll be able to find some smaller video production companies where you could start carrying cables and then work your way up :P
@SimonSheehan Then it's okay. Our computer science classes were full of people firing up the torrents on a high-speed connection as soon as the teachers started talking
This was 5-6 years ago in a media studies class. Our teacher wanted different examples of car adverts so we all hit visit4info (a advert website) and basically nuked the connection.
@Linker3000 True. And that line I didn't quote about drives even larger than 3TB is almost guaranteed to be bullshit.
Although I'm wondering why it takes them this long when they have support for larger drives on all their other products. I didn't expect them to work this different internally.
I've been waiting for QNAP to release a newer version of TwonkyMedia server for months now. The software is absolutely finished and stable, all they would have to do was compile it for ARM and release it.
Hello guys. I installed Skype on SD card and removed SD card. Then tried to access Skype and it told me that it had been removed so i installed another one. Now i realized now that i have 2 Skypes. What should i do?
Since the release of Firefox "5", I've come to really love the new "App Tabs" feature. However, I've now realized that several internal websites at work do not have favicons. So, when I make an App Tab out of these sites, there's only a "blank page" icon in the tab.
Perhaps I wouldn't mind s...
^Regarding that: The answer provided addresses the initial question. But, I've got an enhancement to that question included in the OP that I still would like to see covered. Should I edit the OP to re-emphasize, or just post a separate question?
Specifically, the answer covers how to change the App Tab favicon for sure. But, if you navigate away from the bookmarked URL, even within the same sub-domain and directory structure, the favicon in the App Tab drops back to the default.
Hmm, I'd say if the question is answered as it is now, I'd just leave it at that. Open a new question, maybe link to the old one for further reference.
Is there a way to add a custom favicon to an App Tab?
In the above thread, @admintech links to a great plugin for changing favicons which covers both the bookmarks folder and the address bar/tab bar icons. However, it still does not quite fully address what I was hoping to accomplish.
I'd like...
