Man I forgot how good the battery on the Sony Z3C is. 2 days of moderate use... Still got 55% left
As a secondary/backup phone I can easily get away with charging it once a week. With smartphone features off (which would defeat the point of having it, but anyway) it could probably do 2-4 weeks.
Some wise-acre decided that "summer time" was so good that it got extended. Earlier in Spring and later in Fall :(. I could do without it at all. Messes up my own system something horrible.
@Burgi Yup, for some reason they like to make the gun powder companies rich in July.
@Burgi, well-played! That being said, I'm afraid that our new President and his administration will work against us when the IOC decides who is hosting the 2024 Olympics later this year.
@GypsySpellweaver, it is down to just two candidates: Los Angeles and Paris, which have both hosted the Olympics on multiple occasions. It would be great to have them back in L.A. again, but Mr. Trump hasn't really endeared himself to international leadership during his tenure.
@Run5k On both sides of the fence, I think it's all posturing anyway. I'd vote for Paris myself, cause I think France has had a really hard row recently, and the games might help them out some. Flip side is that no matter where it goes, there's gonna have to be some real heavy security with the way things stand with the terrorist threats.
@GypsySpellweaver, no doubt. The summer Olympics have evolved into such a huge event over the last few decades that it seems as though only a rather finite number of cities can realistically hope to have a viable bid. Boston, Rome, Budapest, and Hamburg were all interested early on, but each of them ultimately declined.
@Run5k True that. Maybe it needs to switch to being a National selection rather than a City selection. Build up an entirely new centre for it somewhere, that's outside any local purview, and make it 100% Olympic focused development. Game venues, hospitality, &etc. National budgets, and national security forces could probably handle it a lot better than all but the hugest metropolises could. Summer Games & Winter Games.
In the USA, maybe it could be State level, but that's sort of unique globally.
@GypsySpellweaver, there has been some tentative discussions regarding similar topics... even the potential of having it permanently held in Athens. But as I said, the summer Olympics have become such a tremendous undertaking that huge cities with a lot of pre-existing venues and infrastructure are the only candidates that are willing to bid.
I don't think I'd like to see it anywhere permanently. Maybe a select few permanent sites, scattered globally, but not one. 'Course, with the size of it, that's about what it is anyway. Build up the only ones that can do it, and set up a steady rotating schedule. Eliminate the "bidding war" atmosphere, and concentrate on making each site the best it can be for the games.
An idea like that has a lot of potential, also: some type of rotation between cities that would maintain permanent venues like Los Angeles, Paris, London, Moscow, and Beijing, as an example.
Wife does plenty. But, she can, 'cause her work don't take concentration, and she listens while she does her needlework. I ditch the popcorn, and go for the brew instead.
@Burgi, it certainly has potential! My wife and I always say that we are notoriously easy to please. A movie needs to be overtly bad before we dismiss it. We thought that the extended version of Dawn of Justice was decent, and even Suicide Squad was worth watching once... but they could have shortened that movie by 20-30 minutes for a noticeable improvement.
a lot of these superhero movies struggle with focus, they have a huge cast of a-list actors demanding screen time so they jump around all over the place
extremely noticable in the first avengers movie and suicide squad
@bwDraco Not a shelter staff, but some have been rescues from outside. Others were fosters that just adopted us (you don't adopt a cat, it adopts you).
Front center got his paw crushed by a car. Vet put it in a cast and he lived inside 'till it was off. Then, a few months later he was in the engine of a truck to stay warm and didn't get out in time. Got his jaw wired for a while. Now he stays in and don't even look at the door.
@JourneymanGeek The wheels on my chair have pulled out a few tufts of hair. I try to check, but sometimes when I have to do something for my wife I move a bit to hastily.
@bwDraco in no rush to get him back up -- I want to switch over to headless chromium but have to compile chromedriver from git and modify a few lines of code
Ask them to shop at Goodwill or Salvation Army. That way, when the clothes get damaged, not many funds are involved, and the money supports a good cause as well. :)
@Rahul2001 "You have asked me to perform an illegal/immoral/unethical action. If you repeat this behaviour I will inform parents/teacher/police/4la" :)
@Rahul2001 ordinary people get hacked, because they constitute a resource, that can be used either to propagate content (in case of account) or to gain computational power (physical computers)

The spam was from a romanian recruitment company ...
@jokerdino Which is what I've been trying to point out. These are guys experienced with tech, who are willing to work for low salaries. Offer them higher salaries and put them in sensible jobs.
Before I cancel this server contract, is there anything I might have overlooked in migrating? Actual data, databases, /home/, output of dpkg --get-selections (the suggestion of @JourneymanGeek's), /etc/ -- anything else?
@FleetCommand If the quality is low (Win 10 'one crash on boot' A ?) then VLQ. As a definitive answer it might be fine (eg OS is corrupt beyond repair); but as a 'diagnostic fix' I'd argue against it
Also depends on the Q- if the question asks 'why is the OS having trouble?' or 'how do I investigate?'; "reinstall" is not really answering the question as asked.
(again, if you're thinking of the same one I am edit: you are; I can link if it'd help others to weigh in?)
@JourneymanGeek You said you could search the roll number results using Firefox. I've downloaded it. Can you please tell me how to do so, either here or at my question superuser.com/q/1192226/539569
@Rahul2001 ... not really. I was being a little funny, filling out the charcter count, and quoting a classic movie. Which at least one person got. By the way, get off my lawn ;p
@Hennes: If you're mass-editing (including to remove a deprecated tag), please try to do it in small batches every couple of minutes or so. The quantity of edits you're making is flooding the front page.
@M.A.R. Sure there are. okay then. @DavidPostill once used that argument on me though, so now I ask anyway. Not like it's actually going to stop me. XD
