11:00 PM
anyways I am numb skull, bought Easy RE since i was desperate, it broke something so they sent me an ISO to reverse it. But the link was timed and I let it expire now I actually need it tonight, lol, but got to wait I guess
read this article about episode 9 of stars wars which claimed to explain how they would deal with Carrie Fishers passing, guess what, they won't do cgi ..... well duh!
Clearly MsN click bait..

Bob
11:16 PM
LightnessRacesInOrbit is now BoundaryImposition
the name changes...

I'm amused how many people keep track of that

All these name changes should be banned - they are too confusing ;p
Soon everybody will be TOWMN.
I wonder how many mods have changed their names?

As far as I remember... none
My name did change shortly after I joined that tho
From The Journeyman Geek to "Journeyman Geek"
cause someone got fed up with the confusing @the

@MichaelFrank these days that's almost a good thing

Bob
@JourneymanGeek I just caught an @-reply in a comment to a name that didn't exist in the thread...
I feel like I'm due for a disambiguation name change :P

11:28 PM
(as opposed to captive portals that try to work on ssl but botch it by either breaking ssl completely or using broken/forged/untrusted certificates

@DavidPostill as far as I know both @Aibobot and @IAmABot are not actual bots

@Bobette
Correct, they're bots not biots
@NickAlexeev this would be such an interesting question if it weren't so stupid.

heh
@TOWMN the broad topic is right up your alley isn't it?

Urgh the add shortcut to home thing in chrome adds it to your Android home not your Chrome home
@JourneymanGeek yeah, hence why I thought it interesting

Bob
huh. we have a vegetarianism.se now

11:35 PM
yup
._.

WiFi, especially WiFi roaming while moving and in vehicles is something I've done a lot of work on
Do we have a veganism.se?

@TOWMN not really, Vegetarianism covers that too

I started off trying to get seamless handoffs working for uninterrupted VOIP calls in a lift.

amusingingly, I'm not particularly interested in it, or hinduism
@Bob at some point, we need to have a conversation about moving the off site chat to matrix
and how we'd want to handle people wanting in.
Assuming that's planned ;p

Turns out its a lot easier to just stick a WiFi AP in the lift/shaft

11:37 PM
>_>
How does that get network in though?

The same way the CCTV in the lift gets network out?
The real pain is basically no Android phones implement CCX or 802.11r. One of the few advantages of iPhones...
Also good old Nokia S60 had native CCX and SIP.

Bob
@JourneymanGeek that sounds ominous

@Bob you mentioned it, and I need an excuse to get matrix/riot up again ;p

Bob
lol
@JourneymanGeek well, on my end that could probably wait till I get that new dedi set up
the one I've had 'ready' for a month but been too lazy to touch...
then maybe I can update the other dedi

yeah. I have a broken matrix install I need to redo ;p

Bob
11:43 PM
and delete the other other one

I want in on offsite chat. Because I'm still ragey/angry at onsite chat

@TOWMN we're currently on gitter who just got bought over
The nice thing with matrix is anyone can run a "home server" and federate

Ultimately roaming and handoffs in the 802.11 stack sucks balls and is nothing but layer upon layer of proprietary botch jobs that still lack basic fundamental features that have existed in 2G mobile technology since the 1980s

Best way to implement seamless roaming in 802.11? Give up, and use something else.

Bob
11:48 PM
@JourneymanGeek plus side, it's unlikely that github is going to make it worse

Like Extricom who basically rewrote one half of the stack from scratch using proprietary magic that completely reinvents the wheel turning it into more of a ball than a wheel

Bob
at least for a year or two while we get our shit together :P

A magical aerogel ball
A magical aerogel ball that virtualises the network so roaming ceases to exist.
There's no need for handoffs when you have no hands!

You're a cat. You have paws.

11:54 PM
Enough of us have paws that pawoffs are probably relevant.
In fact almost everyone tonight has paws
