@MichaelFrank Which one?

@CanadianLuke I... Don't even remember. I just saw the 'Thanks me too' and forgot to flag it. -_-
so tired.

:-O
You let one through?

I'm not voting for you again! :o
Ahh, it was this one:
-1
A: How to Find Out What is Causing UAC Prompt on Powerpoint 2007

Mike GibsonThank you so much, this worked for me.....

also, flagged now.

Right
I'm concerned with this election... I see some really awesome users running against me

@CanadianLuke that makes you concerned? you should be happy for the net benefit of the site ;-)

11:17 PM
Well, to be honest, I really wanted to win the last mod election... I just feel this is going to be my best chance, this time around

@CanadianLuke there will always be another chance

We'll see

people get burned out; they get busy with their real lives; the site's user base and/or spam base grows; these things will always demand a rotating moderatorship as long as the site continues to exist
this won't be the last election, unless SE as a company dies
There's gotta be a super w7 user lurking somewhere, i googled this issue to death and no one has been able to solve this. — albert einstein 9 mins ago
-_-

....
Well, if that's the case, vote for me this round...

@allquixotic I would point the finger at port forwarding. shrug

11:27 PM
@CanadianLuke I'm running, silly! :)

So? You can still vote

if they let nominees vote for themselves and for others, I'll be voting for myself, and two people who I think have the least chance of making it :P
in a way it's a compliment to you that I won't be voting for you, lol

Not really
:P

no, I think it really is
:P

i need a recommendation

11:34 PM
@Sickest Drink more water.

heh

Is there a standard for dealing with late answers that are basically a carbon copy of the already accepted answer? It's not wrong, just 3 years too late and already accepted.

@MichaelFrank nuke it

Flag for Mod Attention ->Duplicate Answer

call iran and send the nukes
what are your guy's thoughts on the best way to extend wifi range without running on ethernet line
an
i've been reading alot, and apparently repeaters are not the way to go anymore

11:42 PM
@Sickest when you need to extend the range of a radio protocol, you have two options: boost the TX power (on both sides), or make the antennas more directional. You can't boost the TX power past the limits of the law, which define "how loud you can shout" on the wifi bands. But you can make the transmissions more directional.

well, i have a budget to buy another device to extend the range

you could of course use repeaters but that is a "wired-based" solution since you have to plug in power at each repeater, so you may as well also have ethernet running from the switch to the AP, and just set all the APs to the same BSSID

any recommendations on a certain repeater
the one we were using only worked on wep

... the guys in the office are talking about how they're going to install a 14U tape library by manually lifting it.
The thing is around 230lbs. o.O

Why are you using WEP?
That means you aren't taking advantage of the newer speeds or specs either

11:46 PM
the TP-link we have only runs on WEP
i was reading the reapters can't take advantage of anything higher then wep
is this true?

I'd buy a new one pretty quick

@CanadianLuke This.

I've seen many repeaters that do WPA and WPA2, along with AC and N standards

Q: apt and aptitude died after dist-upgrade

Canadian LukeI followed the Debian Instructions for upgrading from Squeeze to Wheezy in Debian. I audited my packages, updated my /etc/apt/sources.list file to get Wheezy sources, I ran apt-get update and apt-get upgrade, and upgraded many packages. Everything was still working. Now, if I do anything with ap...

BTW: Got (most) of the Grub loading issue solved; I just need my USB key to boot it

i'm not going to lie this repeater is pretty old by now

If you get consumer class products, plan to replace them every 3-5 years minimum

11:53 PM
Does anyone here use a repeater?

I have 6 in my school that I mange, but they cost $600 each, and they're made to last for 5-7 years at a time
The consumer class extenders I sold when I worked in computer retail were between $45 and $100, and you got what you paid for
