@nhinkle it used to pay attention to its own messages and tell itself to stop spamming, but we fixed that

personally I find it unacceptable that there are perfectly valid, not weird, not obscure, technology related questions that are off topic on the entire SE network... that really, really bothers me

the exclusions seem arbitrary and destructive and based on a sort of Stockholm syndrome

@ThatBrazilianGuy well, basically what I mean is that there's a certain groupthink around here to be strict about the reasons for closing questions, and if you can find any reason at all, then you can close it... basically, it's the same kind of thing as, if a police officer follows you around long enough, soon enough you're going to do something that breaks the law and he can arrest you for

so if people are trying to find a reason to close a question, they can justify it, for almost any question

sometimes people end up arguing in circles, too, saying that the same question is simultaneously too narrow and too broad, etc

the close reasons are so open to interpretation that you could close and delete the top 50 highest voted questions on every main site and make an honest-to-God reasonable case for why you're doing it, and a significant proportion of the user / mod population would agree with you

I wish shopping questions to an extent were on topic, but the community doesn't seem to agree
