Google uses ~ as 'like' operator. I could not find out how to avoid that. Quotes did not help, escaping with a backslah did not help. Using advanced search did not help, ..

Some superuser question asked what "host~orig" was on his mac.

I have no idea which program created those, but I know "filename~" and "filename.orig" as used as backups for some editors. "~orig" seems something I should be able to google

PS4 has 8 GB of unified GDDR5 memory

iirc GDDR5 is only suited for GPU computations

And they are implementing suspend in a GDDR5 module instead of a DDR3 module o0

The ps3 had 256mb of ram, or was it 512, and ran things fine, the ps4/720 are just right out standard gaming computers, if they don't come with a dual boot function, then they will be the most useless game consoles on record hardware wise

also, you can throttle the CPU in the same place

(I find it rude posting the same verbatim question with all its formatting and spelling errors to all sites where it could be remotely on-topic except for the site where you're question-blocked on.)

I don't recall throttling settings or anything

if it's that noisy, try switching to another computer

or put some headphones on and listen to music

it's the same with all of them

if you were to force the fan speed lower, one of two things would happen

automatic throttling, which can slow a computer to a crawl (especially if you're running enough to put it near max)

unfortunately I went over my 100GB FUP limit, so my slow 4Mbps connection is now a grinding 512k

I have been using the Speedfan for 7 years now on my pc at home

the fan is spinning up because the alternative is a nonfunctional or, if you're unlucky, dead computer

and nothing happened

well, your CPU is likely running hotter than optimum, for one

there might be some throttling going on without you realising

when throttled, the speed it actually runs would be lower

say, 2 GHz

at some point, pertty much nothing will be responsive

heat output is reduced, which is the whole point - the alternative is a hard shutdown, if the fan doesn't work

really, just make sure your case has good airflow

perhaps install some additional/replacement quieter fans

ok

the best solution is to either improve cooling or reduce load (or both). not reduce cooling and force the CPU to throttle itself to prevent damage... which means it wouldn't be able to process the entire load effectively anymore either...

take a look at the task manager

identify which programs are using the (most consistently) greatest % of CPU time

close them if possible

and here comes @allquixotic to prove I know nothing :P
