2:00 PM
@DForck42 biddy biddy beep

@NautArch how goes it?

@DForck42 not too bad, but feeling migraine-y again.

@NautArch eww
is popping drugs and hiding an option?

@DForck42 did that two days ago. not an option to do it again.
time for this buttercup to muscle up
just found out our sunday gameday may have some additional players!

@NautArch sucks, but yeah it is what it is
@NautArch oooooh, what cha playing?

2:07 PM
@DForck42 It's not a bad migraine, just feels like i'm on the edge of one again. I think they're starting with boardgames while i'm on kid duty, and then when I get there jump into 5e.
We have a main campaign that we've been doing for a few years, and an alternate campaign that we switch DMs for. We'll probably make up some characters for the alt campaign and let them dip their toes into that.

@eimyr For now I have these new questions: "Is the room clean?" and "Why is the floor trembling?"

@NautArch neat
@AnneAunyme gelatinous cubes?

@DForck42 It's up to the maids to decide!

@AnneAunyme and the agendas?
It's easier if you have agendas figured out

agendas: "afraid by supernatural events", "seek manager's recognition", "want to spread rumors", "like chivalrous stories", "prudish", "want to be allowed to go to sleep"

2:14 PM
cool
have you thought of a takeover condition for each?

"afraid of supernatural": takeover if the explanation involves supernatural"
"want to spread rumors": takeover if the explanation doesn't involves anything scandalous

btw, "afraid of the supernatural"

oh, thank you!

or "scared by the supernatural"

"prudish": takeover if the explanation involves kinky stuff

2:17 PM
aa
the takeover is legit if the current interpretation goes AGAINST it
and I'm thinking ghosts etc. are not likely to be mentioned

I mean as she is afraid of supernatural if the explanation involves it she will be scared
so she wants something completely realistic

yeah, makes sense, but how often will the other agendas suggest something supernatural?
it might end up being an agenda that is never endangered

hum, you are right

perhaps "conspiracy theorist - take over if the current interpretation is completely rational"

maybe something like "bitch": takeover if the explanation couldn't hurt anyone's feelings

2:20 PM
that would be invoked all the time
@AnneAunyme this kinda doubles rumourmonger

@eimyr seems fun :)
that's true

what about the one with chivalrous stories?

takeover if the explanation involves someone acting in a non-chivalrous way

I assumed female maids
hmm
that's itneresting

yes, maids are female
but one can be like "I am sure this client is a very chivalrous guy"

2:23 PM
i miss the "in love with the guest - take over if the interpretation doesn't give an opportunity to interact with the guest"

interesting too, maybe replace the sleepy one with that

but I like the sleepy one!
"naw, I'm sure this repetitive thudding is just the guest brushing teeth"

I'm sure we will find a solution!

I think you can conflate rumourmonger and the prude

no, not the toothbrush scene from Nisemono...

2:25 PM
or the prude and the chivalrous one
I'd imagine chivalry also requires one to be quite prudish in the first place

prude and chivalrous maybe
yes, you're right
I think instead of taking lines I will take a random square , and that will be what they see from the keyhole

oh, instead of shouting Fie!, which is quite archaic, you could go for "desu" or something

"Baka!"

@AnneAunyme LOL I love it
hmmm... if you introduce vision then I'd advise to test it first - it might be that the panels are so obvious interpretation is pointless
I had that issue with books, I needed to know how vague and pliable the source material is, to see whether it's close enough to gibberish to make the game possible
if every line I got was "We should go to war immediately" or "You brother is a traitor"... well, interpretation is no longer necessary
but if it's "said the brother - my dearest, leave" then you can interpret it into almost anything

I think manga squares are more ambiguous than that, but of course I will test it before

2:32 PM
I thought book were more coherent, but I discovered e.g. technical manuals are too precise to allow interpretation
@AnneAunyme I think it might be the kind of manga you use
but let's say it shows two people fighting or, erm, fanservice
it clearly points to a specific answer to a specific question

It needs tests, clearly

if you're unsure about the questions, you might want to write for agenda a question that the agenda wants answered the most - and then make sure not to include it.
e.g. if the question is "is the prophecy good for the king?" then the Loyalist agenda is going to push for it no matter what which doesn't generate tension with others

So what do you think about "why is the floor trembling?"

so "should we call the manager" should not be asked, but rather the questions asked should be a factor in that decision
it's cool, because there isn't any obvious hater or lover among agendas
but "is the room clean" is clearly the sleepyhead's go-to

@Papayaman1000 Added to contacts. And here's me. Though I've basically stopped playing, on account on having done everything (except for the Seeking).

2:37 PM
I think "Is the guest alone?" is a powerful one
unless using vision...

@eimyr should we speculate as to the possibility of the need that management may need to be contacted in this particular instance?

maybe "is the guest safe?" would be better
"is the guest enjoying the stay?"
"is room service needed?"
"should we call the police?"
"should we hang the Do Not Disturb sign?"
I mean, the cleaning one isn't that bad because the sleepyhead goes to answer, but because potentially the others don't care all that much
all the Qs should get attention of all agendas

(In case anyone else is so confused, the conversation started here):
5 hours ago, by eimyr
I need a proofreader for a RPG, circa 2k words. Any volunteers?
5 hours ago, by eimyr
@AnneAunyme @BESW http://tentacletheory.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/04/The-Oracle.pdf

@SevenSidedDie It did. I can move elsewhere if it's off topic.
@DForck42 Perhaps. It's probably a good one.

reading it now. ws wondering what the discussion was about!

2:49 PM
@eimyr Just adding that so there's a marker people can use to find context. :) (I'm not sure if it should be had elsewhere… maybe ask @BESW when he's around, and if needed he (or a mod) can move it to NAB or something.)

@NautArch So I wrote a game and @AnneAunyme seems to want to play it with an anime/manga theme

any particular genre of anime/manga?

well, the idea seemed to be "hotel maids eavesdropping on a guest and making wild guesses on what's going on in his room"

@eimyr maybe i should read before asking questions :)

It's alright, I can answer :P
the original genre is "corrupt priests at oracle's temple"

2:54 PM
@eimyr and this would be nosy housekeeping at the hotel?
in which the guest is some sort of anime/manga character?

indeed
though I think Anne can explain better, as she owns the idea for a setting
and I was trying to assist by explaining the elbow grease behind the original setting

are we capturing our ideas anywhere? It seems a lot of progress has been made

good morning folks

@NautArch luckily the chat never expires

Actually as I read the rules of eimyr's game I wanted to test it, and I realized I may have to animate a short game session this weekend during a manga convention
so the "corrupted priests" theme wouldn't really fit
but then I had this idea: "What if instead of fantasy books we take random bad romance mangas?" (I know for sure I can borrow a bunch of them there)
and then eimyr's went with the hotel and maids situation

3:09 PM
@NautArch And if you click on “room▼” there's “create new bookmark”, so you can save the conversation for later easy access from your profile page.

@AnneAunyme That could work vanilla, but it's definitely less workable than having a fantasy/historical genre, because you might need to deal with ancient priests interpreting a quote with mobile phones and cars.

my questions so far: "Why is the floor trembling?" "Is the guest satisfied with the room service?", "should we put a sign on the door and which one?"

"is the guest safe?" is not to your liking?

i don't know, I was figuring it was a but like "is he enjoying his stay?" but not so much actually

I'm sure the prude maid can figure out a situation where he is enjoying himsefl but NOT SAFE

3:14 PM
yes, definitely

3:33 PM
@eimyr, you're still talking about that Maid RPG, right? Cause I read that at first completely devoid of context before remembering you guys had been talking about that RPG.

@godskook Yeah, but specifically it's not THE Maid RPG which is an actual RPG bearing no relation to the one we're talking about

Equipping your maids with RPGs is going a little too far, don't you think?

RPG: The RPG: you play as military launchers on their journey from the factory to combat.
2

Better yet - you play as the rocket-propelled grenade itself, on its way from the launcher to its destination
Could be a 200WordRPG submission, play time lasts several seconds

woah, someone already has nearly 50 votes on an answer to the question I posted yesterday. that's insane

3:46 PM
What question?
For a hole-in-the-wall stack like this, 50 is a ton

46
A: Is there any way to stop a player from charging into every room?

Matt VincentStorytime: In one of the first games I ever ran at a convention, there was a player that was doing exactly what you described: charging ahead, thinking he was better than everyone, not playing as a team, etc. So the next time he charged ahead, all the enemies were of course waiting to gang up ...

wish I got 46 upvotes on the questions :D

@Ryan <shakes head>

@Ryan how come your username is different on the stack?

@SPavel You can set a different user profile as your parent user for Chat.
And you can have different names on different stacks.

Weird

3:50 PM
in chat and on GDSE I go by just Ryan. Everywhere else I changed it to RyanFromGDSE

Chat is a different site than rpg.se
or any other site on SE

I'm @Steam on SFF and I occasionally swap parent user to mess with a friend.

also, hello folks

Incidentally, that's one way to change your name even while under the 30 day timeout.

I also own the domain - ryanfromgdse.com
which I sadly haven't had much time for but that should change in June when my travel season ends

3:55 PM
Look at this fat cat with his travel season

@eimyr My rule of thumb is that if a long-form conversation seems to be crowding out other things or getting into sensitive areas to suggest either NABbing it or creating its own room. So far (up to about an hour ago) this doesn't seem to be the case here.

4:10 PM
yeah its really only if its disruptive
OR
if its not but its crowding out other conversations/site business

@LegendaryDude hiya
@Ryan there are some delicious ambiguities in your room-smashing question that I'm luxuriating in right now.

@nitsua60 tell me of your ambiguities, usul.
I feel bad answering that animal companion/panther question now that i read the dupe comment :/
ouch, someone just went in an downvoted all the answers for it.

You can delete your answer if you wish

@nitsua60 These things need to be names of spells

Well, first reaction is the grammar-jerk one "you mean their *character* smashes into rooms, right?" Then it turns out there are multiple characters, played by the same player... so it is a better characterization of the *player* than the character.
Which leads to the amusing head-canon of Ryan trying to deal with [Mr. Kool Aid](https://img.memesuper.com/0f4140be89f0db5cfbe0726a29630667_wilkins-at-kool-aid-oh-no-kool-aid-oh-yeah-meme_600-400.jpeg) bursting into his FLGS.
But that gets us to the interesting and dicey possible root-problem: Ryan might just be annoyed at the *player* metaphori

4:19 PM
Mordenkainen's Asphyxiating Snare of Escalating Venality
Bigby's Octopoid Stranglehold of Malaise
Rary's Variegated Cancerous Concoctions of Corruption
These are 8th level spells at minimum, some maybe even epic

Bard class feature: Percipient discord.

@nitsua60 what's that from?

I think I've discovered my new preamble to every meta A I post:
> A few disquieting thoughts that have lingered and languished in distressed silence in mentation demand expression at the parting with a pulpit touch. Hence, this supplement.

@Adam Nah, I still think it's helpful for the OP.

@nitsua60 And you must always end with "Carthago delenda est"

4:26 PM
@nitsua60 gesundheit

@DForck42 unheimlich

@SPavel ehh?

I thought we were saying random German words :P
(I didn't, but I wanted to)

@SPavel ahh, so you actually meant to say creepy, lol

@SPavel ausgezeichnet!

4:32 PM
@nitsua60 ding!

@DForck42 the English translation is "uncanny"

@SPavel came up as creepy in google translate, lol

It's a philosophy thing
Something that is just familiar enough that you recognize it, but not so familiar that you know why

@SPavel Sounds like everything from my four years of German =\

haha
That is my experience too
"That word sounds familiar, if only I could remember what it meant"

4:36 PM
@nitsua60 former german AP student I can attest to this

As a former person who took a class taught by a German guy, I have no valid input but I'll just agree with you.

@Yuuki you're no longer a person?

Well, part of my journey into becoming a first-time DM involves transmogrification into a lifeless ball of salt powered only by cruelty, malice, and a need to kill PCs.
Can you blindfold a skeleton? :thinkingface:
It's not immune to the blinded condition after all.

Mechanical rules don't always mesh with logical observation.

@Yuuki I'd say you can...if you have the capability to dos o

4:48 PM
There's also nothing preventing skeletons from being a pro chess player. Unless they lack an int score.

Skeletom, brother of Skeletor, Ravenloft's only grandmaster chess player who is also a skeleton.
He prefers to go by "Tom".

@MadMAxJr They'd be pretty bad at chess, but they could play it. (6 INT)

Rumor has it that the only time he loses a game is when he wears a cloak on Halloween and goes to elderly homes to purposefully lose to the old folks so they can say they've defeated Death.

Then Skeleton went back to college and got his BA in Political Science.
He now administrates unemployment assistance efforts for undead in Ravenloft.
This highlights another DMing topic. Not every background character or mook needs a full background story.

@Yuuki that's... super adorable

4:56 PM
Can someone sanity check me please

Q: What is the price for an enchanted weapon?

The Black DragonThe DMG describes enchanted weapons, but does not say the prices for most. I'm wondering if there is is a scale or chart, or can you only buy some of them? If possible, can you provide an example?

5e magic items aren't for sale
right?

@LegendaryDude as RAW, yes
but it does suggest that services rendered would be a better trade

@DForck42 Thank you, that's what I thought. Shem is disagreeing with me on that point.

which, honestly, you can then deduce to a gold value

Shower thoughts: is a necromancer raising a horde of undead an immigration, domestic population or wildlife issue?

@Yuuki Death sues for identity fraud. Skeleton is sentenced to life.

4:58 PM
@eimyr Well, it could be argued that it's a case of tax evasion.

Tax evasion is a real issue for my Emerald Spire Superdungeon party.
The local administration applies a 40% tax on all items brought back from the spire.
