I'm mainly looking for the key terms i need to google to get going - I know i need to do some form of fitting a normal distribution to the data and then hypothesis testing but i'm not sure on the specifics
Jan 11, 2021 12:03
hi guys, i have a 2 different sets of data for an exam on my course. they look like normal distributions, with two different means but similar std devs - the means are around 55 and 40 (marks out of 100). How can I mathematically show that the chance of the second mean being this much lower is very very low, and thus that we must have done worse this year due to everything that is going on?

1 Watt is 1 Joule/second, so 84.4 Watts for 1 second give you 84.4 joules
84.4 watts for 60 seconds give you 88.4*60 joules
84.4 watts for 1 hour = 3600 seconds give you 84.4 * 3600 joules.

1 watt-hour is just shorthand for 3600 joules.
Mar 1, 2020 14:14
so if you have 84.4 watts then over an hour it will output 84.4 watt-hours, which is a unit of energy, the same as joules
Mar 1, 2020 14:13
there is no such thing as "accumulative watts" in the same way that there is no such thing as "accumulative speed".

If a car does 60mph then in one hour it will have done 60 miles, 1 minute it will have done 1 mile and so on.

Do I capitalize Common Sense in a sentance?

Also, when I stream using hangouts on air, if my mouse stays still for a while, the stream stops displaying my screencast and instead displays my avater. is there a way I can turn this functionality off?
Aug 13, 2015 19:24
dangit.
Aug 13, 2015 19:23
ah, forgot to specify: I'm on Chrome OS, nd can't install any programs.
Aug 13, 2015 19:21
is there a way to get the audio from my pc to be streamed without picking it up via my mic?
Aug 13, 2015 19:15
hey guys, are you familiar with google hangouts on air?

cheers guys
May 28, 2015 00:48
I'll come back in the morning and try to fix it
May 28, 2015 00:45
so if units doubles, the three values increase the correct amount
May 28, 2015 00:45
i need player.speed, fraction and gravity to scale in proportion to one another at the moment
May 28, 2015 00:42
dyou need more info?
May 28, 2015 00:42
any ideas?
May 28, 2015 00:40
units is 34 on my screen
May 28, 2015 00:38
the 42.5 and 13.4 are completely arbitrary, but they give the intended behaviour on my screen size
May 28, 2015 00:37
player = {
        x: 0,
        y: 0,
        speed: Math.floor(units/8),
        velX: 0.02,
        velY: 0,
    },

friction = units/42.5,
gravity = player.speed/13.4,

Jumping:
player.velY = -player.speed * 2;

Movement:
player.velX+= units/8;

friction and gravity are then subtracted from the velX and velY properties, which are then added to the players x and y position
May 28, 2015 00:35
and the same for height
May 28, 2015 00:35
then canvas.width = units*tilesX
May 28, 2015 00:35
width = window.innerWidth,
height = window.innerHeight,
tilesX = 40,
tilesY = 20,
units = Math.floor(width / tilesX),
May 28, 2015 00:35
its based on the screen size:
May 28, 2015 00:33
Is that what you meant?
May 28, 2015 00:32
I'm using HTML5 Canvas, and all my own code
May 28, 2015 00:30
My game is a platformer, and its composed of tiles that are a certain number of whole pixels high, dependent on the screen, stored in units. How can I ensure that my player behaves the same way on all screen sizes, using this value?
May 28, 2015 00:28
Thanks :D
May 28, 2015 00:26
I have a question about the physics of my game. Is anyone around?
May 2, 2015 21:58
Ok, thanks guys, I'll get thinking!
May 2, 2015 21:58
alright
May 2, 2015 21:57
So, a isolated, well thought out, single player story is the way to go?
May 2, 2015 21:50
fair enough
May 2, 2015 21:46
"go win the tournament, make daddy proud" etc?
May 2, 2015 21:46
Could multiplayer be used as a plot device?
May 2, 2015 21:44
these items would be things like shields, swords and rings that cast magic, among others
May 2, 2015 21:42
there will be a large pokemon-like world which you are free to roam and explore, however, there will probably be no side quests, except small "can you fetch me x" side quests that give you more money
May 2, 2015 21:41
Its based mainly around combat, physical and magic, (like kingdom hearts, almost) It has a huge focus on items, with (planned) hundreds of unique items that will change combat in a unique way. It is 2d, with some overhead, pokemon style peaceful sections, and contra style sidescrolling battle sections
May 2, 2015 21:38
So should I explain game style, mechanics etc?
May 2, 2015 21:35
well, how can I clarify?
May 2, 2015 21:34
How important is a good storyline to an RPG?
May 2, 2015 21:33
I don't want to do a "save the town/princess" like the rest of them.
May 2, 2015 21:33
I'm working on an RPG, and I'm unsure as to how to make the story
May 2, 2015 21:33
I have a question:
Apr 26, 2015 19:28
alright, that sounds reasonably easy to do. Thank you.
Apr 26, 2015 19:27
internet back up

how would I detect whether there's a wall(black) in the way of the player (red)?
