I see it as a win-win-win. I get to keep myself sharp, users get to (hopefully) get helpful tips to improve their coding skills, and this site gets good activity and content that hopefully spurs more activity and content.
In a nutshell I originally removed the link because the question was valid otherwise and the link wasn't presented in a spammy way. But after they re-added it, and it was pointed out that they had done this elsewhere, I removed their question altogether because at that point it was clear it was spam.
@closetnoc You're right about Linux. A control panel here could be useful especially if someone is not a Linux nerd, I mean, experienced with Linux. :)
@leepingpongpang Local dev environments are usually just enough to get the dev work and some testing done. There's usually no need to have robust tools to manage things since there isn't usually much to manage.
@blade19899 In what ways are you hoping to learn? Are you trying to offer hosting services? Just want to learn about it in general so you can pick a good provider? Are you just trying to take maximum advantage of your current hosting?
The 301 redirect tells the search engines, and users, that the content has moved to a new permanent home and to update their records accordingly. This includes search engines rankings.
It's not that complicated. Just do a 301 redirect from the original URL to the new URL. Blogger doesn't offer you an .htaccess file to edit but they do expose a web interface to do this.
@blunders Unfortunately, outside of chat, I don't think there is a SE site that this would fit into. Generally looking for expertise or advice is not the goal of SE. You might want to consider asking this in Meta SE to see if they have ideas there as that would get you the definitive answer to this. There are so many sites now that one might be suitable that I am simply not aware of.
@blunders Unfortunately this is an area outside of my expertise. I've never actually built websites to be money makers. I know that sounds weird but its true! But I am sure others who frequent this site have built sites for this purpose and can shed some light on this for both of us.
@dan It seems to happen in cycles. Hopefully this is the start of a new one. I'd like to see this site busier and getting more attention on the Hot Network Questions sidebar.
I would recommend posting on meta what canonical question you think needs to be made so it can be discussed first. We do that for all potential canonical questions to make sure they really are necessary.
Typically if there is a question that has good answers already in existence we just close the others as a duplicate and all new answers can go in there. If the question varies in scope (i.e. looking for web hosting), then a generic canonical question is usually made as then future questions are closed as duplicates of it.
