Jul 9, 2023 16:37
it's for future reference as we call it.
Jul 9, 2023 16:37
@user2661923 there is no point lol
Jul 9, 2023 16:35
Sure.
Jul 9, 2023 16:33
@user2661923
Jul 9, 2023 16:33
which according to data is clearly incorrect
Jul 9, 2023 16:33
By your argument, A=100, so we should get 1 as the answer to our original problem
Jul 9, 2023 16:33
Consider the case where there is only 1 turn. The probability of getting 1 prizes is 1% and no prizes is 99%, expected value is 0.01 prizes.
Jul 9, 2023 16:32
but then the problem trivializes
Jul 9, 2023 16:32
By your argument we would get exactly 1/50 the ammount expected in 100 uses
Jul 9, 2023 16:31
so the question becomes

> What is the expected number of prizes that you will receive after 2 uses?
Jul 9, 2023 16:31
OK so let's talk about the case where there are 2 turns only
Jul 9, 2023 16:30
And I am saying that it doesn't work :-(
Jul 9, 2023 16:30
Also it does not agree with our double-verified exact answer by script; yours is an overestimate - 8.19, 105879118406787542383540312584955245256423950195312500000000‌00000000000000000000‌00000000000000000000‌00000000000000000000‌00000000000000000000‌00000000000000000/12‌92779867308852021061‌51856642773382549665‌46507182509061503436‌93591789178147476707‌80594211447306244001‌05978696188691592629‌71333935161689779844‌71526892507817 to be exact.
Jul 9, 2023 16:30
We're not saying floor of expected, we're saying expected of floor. That is, if you have raised the probability of success to 33% but your 100 turns are used up, the 33% is wasted and the win does not count. Expectation is fractional but whatever is inside must be floored.
Jul 9, 2023 16:30
However, note that Expected # of prices is expected( floor (100/tries per win)). Since there is the floor, you can no longer pull the 100 out.

@DannyuNDos it is
