@hBy2Py Its just a 2 mark problem in the question paper i was solving.. And yes its a PI controller. So how do calculate the error step change ?? This is where I am having the problem..

I guess..

I assumed that since its open loop the step change must mean a step change in the set point variable. And hence a step change in the error function.

@hBy2Py Its a proportional integral controller.. and the problem is asking for the pressure deviation variable and the answer is given in psi.

the controller has a proportional band setting of 58 % and a reset time of 3 minutes. If the cooling water temperature increases as a step change by 21 degrees c. after 2.56 minutes by how much will the output of the controller change, considering open loop situation.

The temperature range of the controller is –2 to 200 degrees C. and the normal control temperature is at mid range.

A locally mounted temperature controller is controlling the temperature of distillate from an overhead condenser, which uses cooling water as the manipulated variable.
