Li-metal is under active research (direct Li metal electroplating at the cathode, rather than Li intercalation)
Active research in other cations includes sodium and magnesium batteries
Those I think would be sealed-cell.
Then you have all the different flow battery chemistries, but those are focused more on large-scale grid storage, rather than portable power.
I feel like I've heard mention of something like a scandium battery, but whatever it is will be really early-stage.
