@VLAZ I see. Yes, I had my filter set very close to 99.75% - basically as aggressive as possible while staying above the minimum threshold.

@metasmoke "*Total accuracy must be >= 99.75%. *" I don't understand. It was already >= 99.75% when I set it around a month ago.

@murgatroid99 Typically, on-topic game ID questions include media from the OP to begin with. This is an exception since the question is clearly about identifying a character from a recalled name, not from media (which was sourced after the fact).
Mar 14 05:21
@murgatroid99 To not get their question closed (and deleted)?
Mar 14 05:19
@murgatroid99 That does not make for a good precedent. That means anyone can ask an off-topic question, get their answer somewhere else, maybe even in the comments, and slap in an image they found from Google. That definitely isn't how it's supposed to work.
Mar 14 05:17
@murgatroid99 The OP never had any media from the game to begin with. "Sourcing" media after the fact doesn’t make it on-topic.
Mar 14 05:14
@murgatroid99 The OP themselves stated in their Meta SE post, and the timelines confirm, that they were told their earlier Arqade question was off-topic before posting their current ID question. I’m not looking to punish anyone, just raising awareness so the community can spot similar attempts to circumvent our policy.
Mar 14 04:55
@murgatroid99 Avoiding users asking off-topic ID questions from memory (no media), getting answers from other sources, and then retroactively adding a Googled image to justify their question, which circumvents our policy.
Mar 13 23:23
@murgatroid99 It’s not really about penalizing this user. It’s more about avoiding similar situations down the line.
Mar 13 23:20
@Lazers2.0 This question is currently in the HNQ list, but the image in it has been edited/photoshopped and isn't genuine Call of Duty: Black Ops content. Should it be removed from the HNQ list?
Mar 13 22:44
@murgatroid99 It’s pretty clear the OP got their answer from the comments of a question they originally asked from memory. This encourages answering off-topic questions by pulling info from comments or from other sites (like Meta SE) and retroactively adding a Google Image search result to make it seem on-topic.
Mar 13 22:34
@murgatroid99 This feels like a loophole in our "no media, no game ID" policy. If users can ask a question, get clues from comments (like this user likely did from their Meta SE post), Google an image, and add it later, it undermines the policy entirely.
Mar 13 22:30
@Joachim I’ve voted to undelete, and we only need one more vote to make it happen. However, the answer and comments point to a Reddit post with a game screenshot, suggesting the image in question is edited and not from the actual game. This likely makes the question off-topic.
Mar 13 22:21
Hey mods, the user I referenced in my meta post seems to have asked an off-topic game ID question (no media) on Arqade before their Meta SE question and current ID question. I believe it’s been deleted, but could you locate it and share the URL? I’d like to include it in my meta post for better context and to establish the timeline.

@LogicDictates That seems to make sense. Feel free to post an answer if you want.
Jul 13 19:38
@LogicDictates I see. So he was trying to get more solar energy by going into space (presumably the solar energy would counteract the nanite suffocation), which is why the Engineer completely enveloped him. What's still unclear to me is why she couldn't disengage before they crashed.
Jul 13 19:38
Close voters citing "opinion-based": I'm specifically looking for a factual explanation of what's happening in this sequence, not personal opinions. If there's a better way to phrase it, I'm happy to clarify.
Jul 13 19:38
@Paulie_D To be clear, I'm not asking about the direction choice, but the logic of the entire sequence. Superman couldn't have known that the Engineer would fully envelop him with nanites or get stuck to him later. One of Lex's people mentions the friction idea for his face, but another immediately notes it won't help with the nanites already in his lungs.
Jul 13 19:38
@Valorum I don't think there are any plot spoilers in mentioning Superman being suffocated by nanites and the Engineer being unable to disengage. The question body doesn't seem to have spoilers either. It just describes the fight without giving away the context. Which part do you think is spoilery? I can try rephrasing it.
Jul 13 19:38
@Valorum I'll try to rephrase the question. Basically, I'm really just asking about that key sequence: Superman being suffocated by nanites, then flying up before crashing down with the Engineer.
Jul 13 19:38
I'm curious about the downvote(s). Are these coming from people who watched the movie? If so, did I miss something obvious? Comments would be appreciated.

@DavidW As I mentioned in my answer to What are we waiting on to create individual movie tags for the Matrix movies?, [the-matrix] is currently serving as our franchise/universe tag. Adding a universe tag to 500+ questions isn't something I'm going to tackle manually - we'd probably need mod tools for that. Feel free to add a universe/franchise tag if you want.

@AncientSwordRage The user is still at it. Can they be temporarily suspended from commenting?
Apr 30 11:07
@AncientSwordRage That user has left dozens of expletive-laced comments that should be removed. I’ve already flagged so many that I hit the daily limit.
Apr 30 01:34
@Slartibartfast Mods, the OP of this meta post is trolling. They refuse to clarify anything about their vague question and use expletives to insult users engaging with them (see their several now-deleted flagged comments). Please consider suspending this user.

@Marvin Was this an April Fool's joke? The OP "mistook" a show-within-a-movie from a 2024 movie for an actual '90s TV series.

@Grosvenor No worries at all! That sort of thing happens to me too. I suspect the answer to my Mickey 17 question is in the source novel Mickey7, though I haven't gotten around to reading it.

Mods, a community manager marked "Revise the misleading warning that disallows identification questions on the "Ask a question" page" as [status-completed], but they only removed the old warning without adding the proposed replacement warning in the top-voted answer. Was there any communication about whether they still plan to update the warning as requested?

@NapoleonWilson There's also a practical reason for using "Xenomorph"—the term "alien" alone is ambiguous in the Alien universe. Since "alien" could refer to multiple alien species (like the "space jockey"), adding "Xenomorph" removes that ambiguity without losing the core meaning. That’s why I believe "What is the origin of the Xenomorph from Alien?" works best—it avoids confusion while retaining both terms in the title.
Apr 9 01:08
@NapoleonWilson "I don't think we need to put words into the asker's mouth when he deliberately stayed true to the classic nomenclature." The "classic nomenclature" is actually "Xenomorph"; it has been the term used since the 80s. In addition to using the in-universe terminology, I included the term "Xenomorph" to improve question searchability, not to "put words into the asker's mouth." Where did the Alien (the Xenomorph) come from?

@MovieReel Hey mods, it looks like our troll user is back. Their previous accounts were suspended/deleted, and they continue to revert any edits made to improve their question – this is their typical M.O. Could you please take a look? Thanks!

[Revise the misleading warning that disallows identification questions on the "Ask a question" page](https://movies.meta.stackexchange.com/q/5173/1006)
It turns out that this warning is triggered by the word "movie" in the question title. Mods, are there other keywords that set off similar warnings in question titles?

Hey mods, I’ve noticed a user posting what seems to be AI-generated content (I’ve flagged at least two of their posts, including one from four days ago). They’re still posting, so I’m curious if steps are being taken to address this. Could they be warned or reminded of our policy on AI-generated content?

It’s very surprising that @Joachim, one of the most active users lately, ended up last, while two of the least active candidates got the most votes. Big congrats to @Catija, though! Hopefully, she’ll ramp up her activity to support the rest of the mod team with the workload.
Mar 10 12:30
Low-quality, negatively voted questions are mostly auto-deleted by Roomba, and they don’t appear on the front page, so I don’t think they’re something to worry about. My observation of ID questions has revealed that most, if not all, moderator-deleted (not Roomba-deleted) ID questions (post-2018 ID purge) were actually good questions with enough detail that would likely receive community support today.
Mar 10 12:29
@Tinkeringbell There are at least five meta discussions on this, actually. 😊 From what I’ve seen, many of the restored ID questions ended up getting good answers, even after being closed or deleted for years. It’s a shame to leave them closed and deleted. Several OPs even came back to accept new answers or self-answer their questions. Many of these questions have thousands of views, which shows they’re relevant to many people.
Mar 10 11:59
@AJ Several good answers have already been posted on the recently reopened "trivia" questions, in addition to the answers on the ID questions restored earlier in 2024. Not to mention, since we re-allowed ID questions, the number of daily questions has nearly tripled. That seems like a clear boost in engagement and activity to me. As for your question about improving question quality—seriously? I'm one of the most active editors, if not the most active, improving questions and answers.
Mar 10 03:13
This is particularly important right now when we have those question restoration tasks to tackle—completing those could really boost our site's activity and engagement, like what's happening now with the "trivia" questions.
