@Kusalananda thanks so much!

Does anyone remember the news story about an old server being shut down and they found a low priority process had been waiting in queue for years?
Mar 20, 2020 18:45
oh awesome, yeah I just ran ls after and that is exactly the kind of thing I could use a picture of
Mar 20, 2020 18:43
@JeffSchaller oh so normally stty sane will stop any ongoing output, but the stty -onclr is a sort of way around that?
Mar 20, 2020 18:40
But after thinking about it I think just showing some output from /dev/urandom across with some explanation that you're basically stuck will be enough
Mar 20, 2020 18:40
@JeffSchaller I saw that one but it doesn't seem to cause a continued glitch on Ubuntu 18.04, I could get an older virtual machine.
Mar 20, 2020 18:39
@terdon it's for print
Mar 20, 2020 18:29
I think I could probably get away with /dev/urandom
Mar 20, 2020 17:58
This is the type of glitch I'm talking about cyberciti.biz/tips/bash-fix-the-display.html
Mar 20, 2020 17:58
I need to get a screen shot of this glitch myself (due to copyright) but I can't seem to get it to occur. Does anyone know how I could go about triggering that manually?
Mar 20, 2020 17:57
In the past I've had terminal glitches when using minicom or in rare cases SSH where the screen gets glitched with non-text characters. Then you need to run stty sane to fix it.

Hello, I have a question I'm not sure is worth asking on the main site
Aug 31, 2017 00:01
I want to search something related to this but not related to chmod at all.
Aug 31, 2017 00:01
Does anyone know the name for the pattern where a number represents true or false for multiple columns.

e.g. what is used for chmod 777

Where 7 is 1+2+4

What's crazier is that despite that the answer only had 1 upvote.

I'm completely new to Academia trying to do my first research related to cyber crime. So I'm still getting used to things.

They should give you credit where it is due.
Nov 22, 2019 18:26
Sorry, I will link it
Nov 22, 2019 18:26
No, not much use to me unless their is an online version. I ended up here because I'm looking for commons ways MiTM was used in the early days of the internet before HTTPS was popular. 1973 is probably to far back for me.
Nov 22, 2019 18:26
I saw that update in live time @schroeder :-) Link to the paper added here and in a few other places kirkins.github.io/Cyber-Crime-Micro-Course/links.html

I'm testing upgrading/downgrading packages from a custom repo and I want to compare a problem I'm having to a package on the official repo, but I need one that has at least 2 versions available.
Jun 28, 2017 16:25
Hi all, I'm wondering if anyone knows of a package in the default apt-get repo that has multiple versions?

Mar 11, 2017 23:55

sorry I saw Gilles in both unix and french chat rooms. I guess I'm being a bit of a creep.

Is it just me or is his translation completely off. Maybe it's a slight misinterpretation as a bit of a joke relating to his experience with slow service?

Q: Faire de bonne cuisine demande un certain temps

Philip KirkbrideI'm reading an English book which features a French menu as a random quote. When I look at the sentence: Faire de bonne cuisine demande un certain temps. And the context I don't see how the author gets the English translation: Good cooking fakes time. I'd the author correct in his in...
