Actually, you cannot prove a negative, so the burden of proof lies with the one who claims that all agricultural societies have had slavery (i.e. you).

One other reason in my country is government support. Employees with engineering degrees get a tax cut of around 80% in certain zones (declared tech R&D zones) and that's a major reason to choose someone with a degree rather than one without. Especially since we reach maximum tax bracket pretty quickly because the tax brackets are from ancient times.

It also gives end-game players a thing to strive for. After getting all the latest items and doing all the raids, there's really nothing else left to do other than "prepare for the next raid" which is "sometime". Without specific goals, players stop playing the game. You have to dangle that fish in front of them (in this case the fish is the challenge).

@Josh Some employers may want you to work a set amount of hours, but some just want you to get the job done and do whatever the heck you want with the remaining time. I'm working at one such place and I come and go as I please so long as I join the required meetings and do whatever tasks required of me. The cleaner may just be a shy or introverted person or may have lived through some bad interactions when they asked for more. We shouldn't jump to conclusions. I think this answer makes discussion with the cleaner possible, which could become a win-win.

Have you watched "Dog Days" the anime? It has a solution to what you're describing. Especially since you have eldritch horrors that can be chosen as champions :P

@njzk2 If the company agrees to reimburse for the vacation after he asks for it, then he'd have no choice but to accept. That is only if he asks for it.

Dec 9, 2019 16:08
Have you tried talking to your old manager? Since he's now in a higher position, he has more room for tackling this issue. (and it sounds like he likes you, otherwise I wouldn't suggest this)

Are you absolutely sure that your database is not just a shadow of the actual database? Some companies will just sync data from one DB to another and expose the unused one to reporting systems, it might not be used by the actual sales applications etc. at all.

@DawoodibnKareem Tell that to the roads in Istanbul. There are places where you're effectively climbing using your hands rather than walking...

@Mast maybe not a blacksmith but a goldsmith

Are you sure he's not just incompetent and deliberately breaking the software?

I see, thanks :)
Jan 19, 2018 19:57
seems like a good edit, though the explanation is not really good
Jan 19, 2018 19:57
dont think so
Jan 19, 2018 19:55
there's a suggested edit to a community wiki page that says "fixed grammar" as explanation, but actually adds an item to a list (with a link). Should I just approve and move on?

Hey everyone, can you guys suggest some keyboards layouts for coding? I have the Turkish Q layout. It's muscle memory at this point, so I'm fast enough, but almost all of the really important notation is a shift modifier key, which is slow when I have to just pour some code that just popped into my mind. I'm thinking the US Q layout since I'd be used to the locations of the letters but would just have to change the others. Feel free to @ me on this message.
Jun 14, 2017 16:55
Well, I can't judge. My code is spaghetti with some macaroni mixed in.
Jun 14, 2017 16:55
you borrow from tomorrow's time by being lazy today :P
Jun 14, 2017 16:55
I think some people call it code debt or something
Jun 14, 2017 16:49
@PearsonArtPhoto Why it's important to code like you're coding for a company, even if it's "just a side project" :D
Jun 9, 2017 13:32
@ShaunWild Just let them do it all however they want, but if they put a cannon that is towards the right for example, the tank would get a blowback from the right and turn a little towards the right. well, that'd be more math but it could be fun
Jun 8, 2017 14:23
it's not surprising that they fail to fix bugs that were in the open beta, before the release, consistently.
Jun 8, 2017 14:23
they talk about how great their game is and how they're fixing ALL the bugs (which there are a TON of and it's impossible to fix all those in a week).
Jun 8, 2017 14:22
but suddenly, they're all silent before and after the open beta
Jun 8, 2017 14:22
@AlexandreVaillancourt come on which dev wouldn't be proud of the tons of bugs they fixed and improvements they made (especially since they release patch notes prior to closed beta releases).
Jun 8, 2017 14:20
but not before the open beta or after
Jun 8, 2017 14:19
they do release patch notes between the closed betas
Jun 8, 2017 14:19
@AlexandreVaillancourt they could be but there's no way to know if they never release a patch note after the open beta
Jun 8, 2017 14:18
you can't call your game a beta if it's on its way to launch...
Jun 8, 2017 14:18
the bugs are there, and there are no patch notes released in between those dates.
Jun 8, 2017 14:18
and then look at them at launch
Jun 8, 2017 14:18
I'm just telling you to go on and look at the BF1 and BF3 and BF4 at their open beta states (there are videos on youtube)
Jun 8, 2017 14:17
I can't prove anything to you, I'm not an executive of EA... Be reasonable.
Jun 8, 2017 14:16
EA does that and uses it for marketing pretty well
Jun 8, 2017 14:16
come on, just tell me one bug they fixed
Jun 8, 2017 14:16
What's different a week after the so called "open beta" of BF1
Jun 8, 2017 14:15
Is it though?

Nov 24, 2017 21:32
Why not go directly to a Velocikangalizard, so that the tail can regenerate. Also, make them omnivores so you have an alternate source of food when they can't hunt while their tail regenerates.

Oct 15, 2017 16:16
Why not a "Math Doctor", that would confuse people so much :D

Oct 2, 2017 10:55
@jmoreno It's not lying if he just asked, but he's saying that it's not important whether the kid did it or not. Of course, as we all know, and even the kid knows, that's a lie.

Sep 22, 2017 13:07
Yeah, that sounds better. I've edited it and removed the last sentence since it seemed out of place with that sentence.
Sep 22, 2017 12:42
I'm not sure how I should go about the edit, could you suggest something?
Sep 22, 2017 12:42
"You're trying to call GameObject.FindObjectOfType<Brick>() inside the Brick itself." Then the other bits are relevant
Sep 22, 2017 12:41
But isn't my claim that calling from inside the same script leads to always getting one returned?
Sep 22, 2017 12:38
Hmm, then what I'm saying is not wrong in this case but it could just make too many complications in the future. I should add that as a warning too, right? Like, this solution is only applicable in this particular case or something? Or should I just delete the answer since it could mislead people?
Sep 22, 2017 12:34
Wouldn't that just give an error saying that there's no object to call the method from? That seems like a bug to me, unless the method is static.
Sep 22, 2017 12:33
@DMGregory As you yourself have said in your own answer, the Destroy() method gets called at the end of the frame. So, it will always find that last brick. Unless he calls the method in OnDestroy() or LateUpdate() or something like that, what you're suggesting shouldn't happen. (I'd like to see examples of that behavior if it actually exists)
Sep 22, 2017 12:33
@DMGregory I agree wholeheartedly. This is not a suggestion for using my "quick fixes" but those will let the asker see what's wrong with the code rather than avoiding his mistake altogether. Seeing where I went wrong is infinitely more useful for me than seeing the best way to implement something, hence the answer.
Sep 22, 2017 12:33
@Philipp You're right, and I'm not suggesting they're "the right way" to do it, they're just some quick fixes which will solve the problem at hand. I remember my first coding attempts and those were all wrong, but that made me see what not to do. I think doing it the wrong way is also progress, especially if it's just for learning. (Besides, I couldn't even begin to imagine a global controller at my very first attempt. So that concept might be too far above some people's skill level, especially beginners.)

Just one shell area? Why not make it 2 mile wide per shell and use the onion tactic. They'd need five different warrants to even get close to your "inner sanctum".
