I am fitting voigt profiles to spectral data in the lab using python. The circled red option is much easier to code given scipy.special.wofz function
Nov 26, 2020 15:03
And also how I might be able to incorperate x shift in the function
Nov 26, 2020 15:03
Can anyone comment on the accuracy of the circled evaluation?

yup
Dec 12, 2018 12:57
Oh wait, $y=Cx + Dx^2$ ?
Dec 12, 2018 12:55
I tried $y=Cx$ and $y=Cx^2$
Dec 12, 2018 12:54
Which general form should it have?
Dec 12, 2018 12:54
Could someone help me find the PS of $y'' + 2y' = x $

If a system of many springs and masses is connected to stationary walls at either end does that mean your differential equation is always homogenous?
Dec 6, 2018 11:34
Assuming it acts as an ideal gass

If air is compressed adiabatically by a factor of 15 and is initially at 293K how do you find the final temperature?

Was so impressed with my implimentation and now I'm just beating my head on a wall
Apr 24, 2020 01:03
Sad that my N-Body isn't behaving well though
Apr 24, 2020 01:03
I'm considering simplifying everything and assuming both a stationary earth and moon, which for this case is accurate enough.
Apr 24, 2020 01:02
@tpg2114 Yeah been struggling with this code, it behaves as expected in some occasions and very badly in others. Still trying to determine if it is bugs in my code or if it is the Runge Kutta integration becoming unstable due to some parameters reaching extremes
Apr 23, 2020 22:22
I don't understand why it produces stable orbits though
Apr 23, 2020 22:22
Yeah I think something is wrong with my code because given only enough velocity to reach lunar orbit then fall back it overshoots that distance by quite a lot
Apr 23, 2020 21:28
Ugh I forget how to use mathJax give me a minute to read that meta post
Apr 23, 2020 21:27
Okay I'm using $ GMm(r^2) = 0.5mv^2 $ to get some initial velocity to fire the rocket to a max alltitude of r and my simulation is now behaving badly
Apr 23, 2020 20:52
Oh yeah good idea, I mean when I plug in initial conditions for lunar orbit it forms nice orbits as predicted so I assume the code works well.
Apr 23, 2020 20:49
Literally any ideas or refrences for me to read would be so useful
Apr 23, 2020 20:47
I keep getting situations where the rocket isn't really captured by the moon
Apr 23, 2020 20:47
Apr 23, 2020 20:45
Hi everyone been a while but I am in dire need of assistance. I've written some code in python which solves the N-body problem. I'm now trying to set up some initial conditions which could replicate a rocket being fired from Earth orbit and then slingshot around the moon and return to earth orbit. How might I go about finisng these initial conditions?
Dec 18, 2018 20:11
Is there a formula for this current with respect to anode potential
Dec 18, 2018 20:11
As you increase anode potential in the positive direction you get more current which levels off until saturation
Dec 18, 2018 20:10
Does anyone know the mathematical relationship between anode potential and the emission current in photoelectric emission?
Dec 4, 2018 20:41
And the oscillation of the dipoles is perpendicular to the direction of travel of the wave no?
Dec 4, 2018 20:41
If the reflected ray is produced by the re-emittance of energy from oscillating dipoles shouldn't the reflected ray be zero when it would be parallel to that oscillation of the dipoles
Dec 4, 2018 20:38
Why does Brewsters angle occur when the reflected ray would be at 90 degrees to the transmitted ray?
Nov 29, 2018 20:01
$ \Delta ne^{2} = ({\frac{9\sqrt{2}\pi}{E}\sqrt{\frac{\eta^{3}v^{3}}{g(\rho - \sigma)}})^{2} $
Nov 29, 2018 19:57
MikTex etc
Nov 29, 2018 19:57
Does anyone know much about Latex typsetting
Nov 27, 2018 22:41
Thanks though @ACuriousMind
Nov 27, 2018 22:41
Hmm, It seems origin doesn't do that
Nov 27, 2018 22:35
I'll try find a picture
Nov 27, 2018 22:33
Like a sine waveform but which damps in both directions
Nov 27, 2018 22:33
If you plot a graph of intensity vs angle after a double slit experiment what is that type of curve called?
Nov 26, 2018 16:32
By eliminating the slip factor needed in Stokes law for the upward motion at least.
Nov 26, 2018 16:31
In Millikan's oil drop experiment, why did he choose to measure the velocity upwards in a strong field rather than just capturing an oil droplet and measuring the field strength required to keep it stationary, in his paper he even talks about how stokes law breaks down for spheres with small radiuses.

Does the method of measuring field strength for stationary droplet and terminal velocity without any E field not result in a smaller error?
Nov 20, 2018 19:40
Hmm Nvm

And is the "ubuntu-gnome-desktop" package what I should be using for 19.04?
Aug 5, 2019 15:09
I am currently using budgie 19.04 and I was wondering if I installed GNOME with "sudo apt-get install ubuntu-gnome-desktop" and then switched from the login page would that be the same as if I had installed ubuntu from the canonical website in the first place?
Jul 27, 2019 16:30
@karel Amazing thank you!
Jul 27, 2019 16:24
Does anyone know what the software-centre equivalent on ubuntu budgie 19.04 is? I recently installed and it has gone missing. I can't find what it's called anywhere, or does budgie also use GNOME-software?

Nov 29, 2018 19:59
\Delta ne^{2} = ({\frac{9\sqrt{2}\pi}{E}\sqrt{\frac{\eta^{3}v^{3}}{g(\rho - \sigma)}})^{2}
Nov 29, 2018 19:59
Does anyone know why MikTex sometimes doesn't have a virticle line as a text cursur and starts over-writing everything you type if you try insert something halfway through your line
