I've installed Node Version Manager (nvm). It's working perfectly fine, but when I try to run it with supervisor, it returns "can't find command nvm". Someone an idea how to fix that?
May 23, 2020 21:10
Hey guys. I've been running an installation script that performs both an update and upgrade before it installs something. This update / upgrade process has been "busy" for about 6 hours now. I don't know how long this can normally take, but I'm starting to believe its just not doing anything. What would be the best thing to do for me at this point?
Nov 25, 2019 15:27
Ye I know they retired it. It's a good thing, but still, felt kinda proud almost reaching it, haha
Nov 25, 2019 15:22
On SO we had this extremely hard to get badge: Get +20 answer score on a question with -5 score. I was in the run for it with way more than +20 on a -4.. then they started upvoting the question xD
Nov 25, 2019 14:54
Ye I could've answered it myself, but I believe credit where credit is due :P
Nov 25, 2019 14:52
@Videonauth Already done and accepted :)
Nov 25, 2019 14:50
Maybe a bit of extra info that is added straight underneath that text and then just a link to that website as reference :)
Nov 25, 2019 14:49
@Videonauth I suppose a partial copy of that website would be a good answer: "You can't disable disk caching. The only reason anyone ever wants to disable disk caching is because they think it takes memory away from their applications, which it doesn't! Disk cache makes applications load faster and run smoother, but it NEVER EVER takes memory away from them! Therefore, there's absolutely no reason to disable it!"
Nov 25, 2019 14:42
@Videonauth Well with 16 GB ram I rly don't have a reason to worry, haha. Anyway, I've taken a moment to read that website you linked and it cleared up a lot. Thanks again ^^
Nov 25, 2019 14:37
Even video isn't that much of a problem. Just use WebRTC to establish a P2P connection between clients for that
Nov 25, 2019 14:36
PHP / Websocket. Developed it myself so there's not rly a type, haha
Nov 25, 2019 14:34
Have to say I'm rly impressed by Ubuntu's ram usuage anyway. The server's main use is a websocket based chatserver and despite 500+ members online, less than 2 GB RAM usuage including the OS and other services
Nov 25, 2019 14:32
Thx, I'll have a look at that
Nov 25, 2019 14:30
@Videonauth Ah ye that was kind of my concern. A few friends asked me to run a modded Minecraft server on it. Which is fine by me, but Java requires me to reserve RAM for that server (8 GB). Since it said only 7 GB free, that was kinda my concern
Nov 25, 2019 14:27
Thx guys, already working on a question :)
Nov 25, 2019 14:18
Hmm not sure about Ubuntu's "how to ask" rules. I'm from Stack Overflow and any "how to" question is off-topic there unless you've tried a few things yourself first. Since my Ubuntu server knowledge is quite low, my "What did you try yourself?" would be "nothing". Hence I asked in chat :P Also cuz it seems a rather simple question, haha
Nov 25, 2019 14:01
The server has 16 GB RAM and it seems to resever 6 GB for cache, which is kinda overkill if you ask me. Hence the question.
Nov 25, 2019 14:01

Nov 25, 2019 14:01
Is there a way to set the (max) amount buffer / cache an Ubuntu server reserves from RAM? When I do free -m I get the following info:

Never mind, found an answer here: askubuntu.com/questions/1111403/…

How do I enable the screensaver in Ubuntu Server 18.04.3? I know I can disable it by adding consoleblank=0 to the boot, but I actually want it enabled and kick in as soon as possible. Like 2 minutes of no activity. Just installed the server and the screen has been turned on for 3+ hours now so something is preventing it from kicking in?
Apr 20, 2018 05:58
Ghehe true that. I think I'll do that :) Thanks
Apr 20, 2018 05:57
@Fabby That's the only way? As I said: last time I did that, the server no longer worked
Apr 20, 2018 05:54
Nah it's a Dedicated server. I've got full root
Apr 20, 2018 05:54
@Fabby I know but I'm not gonna risk that. Last time I did that the entire server no longer worked and I had to reinstall it completely
Apr 20, 2018 05:52
Apr 20, 2018 05:52
@dessert Let me make a pastebin for that. The output is a bit too large to paste here
Apr 20, 2018 05:51
@Fabby I'm afraid my knowledge is too limited to understand what you mean. I'm just a basic / average Ubuntu user
Apr 20, 2018 05:50
@dessert Thanks a lot for you help anyway :) I really appreciate it. I think my provider uses his own Package lists (if that's how they're called) instead of the default ones provided by Ubuntu and they simply don't have the package
Apr 20, 2018 05:46
It does not. But it does tell me 176 packages can be upgraded

@dessert The lang has no effect. But in short it tells me: liberror-perl:i386 has no install candidate?
Apr 20, 2018 05:32
@dessert Thanks, but I keep getting these errors:

The following packages don't meet the requirements:

Could anyone tell me how to install Git 32bit on a 64bit Ubuntu? I'm trying to compile something which is giving me tons of errors. Appearently the cause of this is that I have the 64bit version of Git and I need the 32bit version. I removed Git, but no matter how much I Google, all I can find is "apt-get install git". Which will install the 64bit..
Dec 12, 2017 14:36
@dessert Thanks :) I always do my best to figure it out on my own before asking^^
Dec 12, 2017 14:34
@terdon Right.. So in my case, web1 would be the owner and client1 is simply the group
Dec 12, 2017 14:32
@terdon Ah. I didn't understand that part. I thought the group was automaticly the owner
Dec 12, 2017 14:28
@terdon Alright, this is what I could make of it: askubuntu.com/questions/985597/…
Dec 12, 2017 14:08
But I'm working on a question to make it a lot more clear
Dec 12, 2017 14:07
Whichever user is running apache2 must be able to write to it. That's all :)
Dec 12, 2017 14:04
Just trying to fix that because I think chmod 0777 is just wrong, haha

@cairdcoinheringaahing Finally back. Thanks a lot for all your help! I'm going to have a look at all the information you provided and see what I can come up it. Truly appreciate it!
Dec 30, 2020 15:42
@cairdcoinheringaahing Sorry, got a phone call. I'll be back shortly. Planning multple, but mostly just Javascript, PHP and Python. Reasonably small snippets (Discord doesn't allow more than 2k chars per message)
Dec 30, 2020 15:33
Ah. Ye that seems clear enough :)
Dec 30, 2020 15:29
Alright
Dec 30, 2020 15:28
Alright, sounds easy enough. When I checked the source, it seems to also work with a token. Do I need to worry about that?
Dec 30, 2020 15:25
Ye that would be great. Honestly, all I need is pretty basic. Just send a request to the server with whatever data is required (langauge, code) and get the result returned. And ye, PHP can compress with zlib
Dec 30, 2020 15:23
@cairdcoinheringaahing Oof. Thanks for the reply, but I think that'll be challenging. I have zero experience with Python. My idea was for a Discord bot written in PHP. Hence the request for CURL or an API like some JSON package. If you could help with that though, I'm definitely interested. I do know a lot about PHP :)
Dec 30, 2020 14:32
Hey everyone. Got a small question. Is it possible to approach TIO through an API or maybe CURL or something like that? Reason I'm asking is because I'm interested in making a chat bot where users can send small code snippets towards it and get the result returned :)
