independant film, one or two word title, sci fi, i think it takes places about a hundred years from now. i didt get to see much of it. i quit it because it wasnt a good time to watch it. I thought i would see a prompt for 'continue watching'

@scottbb Oh certainly not wrong to ask on SU, it just got very little attention there. And I am far from having chutzpah to move it.. else I likely would have.
Aug 21, 2021 14:13
I found this year old question on SU of all places when I was looking for solution to a similar question. I think it's a better fit in Photography...

Q: How to define the leftmost photo when stitching 360° panorama in Lightroom?

ZitRoIn Adobe Lightroom, I can pick a series of raw (DNG) pictures from my Mavic 2 Pro and create a panorama. Overall, Lightroom's photo merge does an amazing job in stitching panoramas like this one. I tried some other tools but still, Lightroom's results are the best (at least, in terms of color/lig...

It just occurred to me this is the more common vise grip species, not to be confused with the rarer vise-grip. The common vise grip over-teases its wing feathers to mimic the often overlooked hyphenated markings witnessed by plier watching enthusiasts.

This is a rare photo of a mother vise-grip feeding her baby wrenches. Nature really is amazing.

@manassehkatz-Moving 2 Codidact also placing descriptive text that names the item in the image when the above text already named it is redundant. that is why "" is used. it tells screen reader software to skip over the image
Aug 3, 2021 03:31
@manassehkatz-Moving 2 Codidact Was a contrasting background that offensive?
Aug 3, 2021 03:22
anyway i thought your answer needed editing, and wanted you to give it a go before i did anything
Aug 3, 2021 03:16
well often it is not overly important to describe something in great detail, unless specifically asked.
Aug 3, 2021 03:15
instead of he image source as he alt text, a description like "reinforced metal plate affixed to brick wall with threaded rod and hexnut" or "decorative iron plate shaped like a gear affixed to wall... .. rod and hexnut
Aug 3, 2021 03:03
In that post you described the images fine. In which case the alt description isnt neceassry. i wondered why the link was placed there.. and i questioned the use of imagery that named something as 'stock photography'
Aug 3, 2021 03:01
changing all default text to "" would cause more problems i think\
Aug 3, 2021 02:58
but at least then we know we need to address it.
Aug 3, 2021 02:58
as of yet i havent heard anyone complain that that use a screen reader and they cant tell what an image is.
Aug 3, 2021 02:57
I considered asking about that. but it doesnt change the issue, its still images that arent described for screen reading software
Aug 3, 2021 02:56
@Criggie the image descriptions would still need to be policed as I do now.
Aug 3, 2021 02:54
shorter is usually better. imagine it being read to you. would you look over it that whole time it took to be read?
Aug 3, 2021 02:51
that is like overkill. its not necessary to describe in such detail.
Aug 3, 2021 02:49
Okay i see what you did. i am looking at your changes
Aug 3, 2021 02:46
oops i referenced your answer there. but i was talking about the question and first answer
Aug 3, 2021 02:44
"" as image description or alt="" (raw html), tells software, 'skip this' the user does not need this'
Aug 3, 2021 02:43
in the answer "Its a clean out plug" having the reader then say again 'white PVC clean out plug' is redundant.
Aug 3, 2021 02:41
because i could be wrong. it might not be a clean out plug
Aug 3, 2021 02:41
with the question, i did not name the item, i described the picture.
Aug 3, 2021 02:36
notice I used ""? That makes screen reader skip it. sincwe the preceding text mentions the pictured item. naming the image is redundant
Aug 3, 2021 02:35
YES. I just editted image text in this post.

A: What's the 1 inch square knob sticking out of the wall?

CriggieA less likely possibility is that you're looking at the internal head of some foundation repairs, given this is inside a basement and therefore underground. An older building may have had extra work done to install reinforcing against quake damage or subsidence. The round part would be a load s...

I want to speak mopre about that alt text since you still seem unsure of best procedure, but i came across an old answer of yours i was looking to edit .. but there was questions about it.

Just the aussie i want to speak to, making an asumption here as I doubt you live on antarctica
Aug 1, 2021 03:45
holy crap! people just dont really look at WHAT was edited, they assume a red box around an image means it was deleted. without reading the edit summary... how did these people get so many points?
Aug 1, 2021 00:17
@honeydo please bother to look at what the suggested edit was. did i say i deleted the inage? no. i add the image description
Jul 30, 2021 13:46
I am editing the image description now. can we be done with editing this post?
Jul 30, 2021 13:45
The image is still viewable, but the special software will see the ALT="" and not try to vocalize it.
Jul 30, 2021 13:44
With that new title that actually describes the item in simple terms, the ALT text can be "nullified" by changing "insert image description here" to "" (two double quotes with no space between them), screen reader software will see that and ignore it.

Q: What is this set of claw-levers and bolts?

Eric VThis has been in my garage for a while, but I have no ideas what it is. Anyone out there know?

Jul 30, 2021 13:41
@criggie a simple description is ideal. "Gear puller", if the question was more specific like, what is the function of this device?, You might say "A gear puller often used to remove steering wheels and fan belt pulleys" Notice the new title?
Jul 30, 2021 13:35
@Criggie "place image description here" is a slap in the face to blind people. No indication of an image is better then saying "Oh here's an image to look at, sorry blind guy, you aren't included.
Jul 30, 2021 13:29
Okay so I did.. identification can be important. I would also expect people to be self policing. But, alas, it is true, people don't know how to Image search properly.
Jul 30, 2021 13:23
Google Image Search, a friend you have, young Skywalker.

@NiallC. I would immediatley downvote a question like that. And thank you for removing unidentifiable tag. Did I suggest it? Or suggest a wiki for it? I don't have authroty to remove tags, only suggest edits toheir wikis.

Yea. im seeing that. they rejected my edit. (same issue, didn't see the edit in markdown) then left a comment that there image was a valid addition. then i explained the reason, and they said in so many words they cant be bothered with that.
Aug 6, 2021 02:41
@JourneymanGeek well hello sir. question. is it just me or are OP's even more obstinate on SU when it comes to image description suggested edits than the other sites?
