The Nineteenth Byte: General discussion for codegolf.stackexc...

@lyxal Yeah, I learned many things through programming for code golf. I learned Python more fluently, I implemented BF and other languages, I abused features/bugs, I learned about balancing in regex, and all sorts of other things. I also created a whole bunch of useless programs. :P

@mousetail Can you download the images individually?
May 18, 2023 13:53
Please help fix the posts in the list, lest some images be deleted forever.
May 18, 2023 13:52
I had to chop it into two pieces, and compress each piece.
May 18, 2023 13:52
This list is not up-to-date, as some have been fixed. But some haven't, I think. I just fixed a GIF that was too big.

@DLosc Maybe not. I don't have torch to test it.
Mar 2, 2023 22:59
@Adám Look at a Chromebook and that'll tell you the difference. No apps, only web pages. Worst computer I've ever used.

Mar 2, 2023 22:56
@DLosc Ah, if you look in the article, (blog.eleuther.ai/year-two-preface), the first image shows it was originally lambda s,x:s[0](x)+x
Mar 2, 2023 22:55
It's not a typo. I don't understand it either, but it's in the article. I'm wondering if there's some torch built-in
Mar 2, 2023 22:54
@Bbrk24 Like track the movement of your pocket as you walk.
Mar 2, 2023 22:53
@Adám That and privacy concerns. Oh wait. Nvm that's a problem everywhere.
Mar 2, 2023 22:52
@AviFS His is Kirby. Just checked.
Mar 2, 2023 22:49
Thanks. haven't been in 19th byte forever.

Noticed some golfing happened in the article. Can anyone here beat it?

They might not have gotten enough people signed up, but I wasn't planning to go, so I don't remember. It was going to be an Esolangs conference.
Dec 16, 2019 21:54
(With the intention of having the conference the next year)
Dec 16, 2019 21:54
@Adám I think Martin was one of the hosts, and I remember seeing an invite. I still have the email, the information was Sept - Oct, 2016
Dec 13, 2019 22:47
@Adám None. There was a codegolf conference held a few years ago, wasn't there?
Dec 13, 2019 22:43
Thanks to whoever visited a whole bunch of links I shared forever ago... I just received 15 "Announcer" badges for various sites all in the same day.

@flawr Wow, a reply to a very old post. I actually eat pineapple on pizza now, if provided by other people.

A: Formatted code block within spoiler tag?

Heretic MonkeyWhile I'm unclear how useful this would be, you can wrap the code in <pre><code>...</code></pre> blocks, such as: >! <pre><code> >! function hidden() { } >! </code></pre> Which produces: I'm pretty sure you'd lose any syntax highlighting.

TLDR; We’re going to be sharing our product development process with you, from feedback loops to timelines. We’ll be doing so through our new series – The Loop. You can give us your thoughts on what you’d like to see us do by filling out this survey: Through the Loop. We’ll also be releasing Moderator Training and some new feedback mechanisms to help us form decisions as we grow.

Since the early days of Stack Overflow, our community has seen a lot of growth and change. As we reflect on 2019 and start thinking about 2020, our company also continues to rapidly grow. We have new l …

SE created a feedback survey. I used it to mention Monica and the CC-BY-SA 4.0 move (il-)legality.

Anyways, I'm going to leave chat now. See you.
Oct 10, 2019 21:44
@wizzwizz4 But even then, some people are more likely to take offense than others.
Oct 10, 2019 21:43
I only have Discord because my friends use it. Steam has built-in chat now, but it doesn't work for one of my friends.
Oct 10, 2019 21:42
@Adám Yeah. My friends use a variety, see the comic above.
Oct 10, 2019 21:41
If the discussion is going to get long, I recommend creating a new chat room for it.
Oct 10, 2019 21:41
I think it's more about how SE is going about this that's the problem. I'm all for being nice, but you can look at the previous comments of mine for my objections.
Oct 10, 2019 21:38
@dzaima Post that on the CoC FAQ page in bold or something. It would be helpful.

@OwenReynolds That's a very biased news source. You're just looking for confirmation bias -- knowing what you want to show and finding a source that confirms it. It might not yet be a complete heart/shape, but it does still beat in a way that can be heard, and it does still contract and move blood. babycenter.com/pregnancy/your-baby/…

"ultrasounds are not zero-cost activities" > There are ultrasound providers that give free ultrasounds to women considering abortions. Here's one example in Texas. It still takes time of course.

@petStorm The fact that 3 people liked my post shows you are wrong. Also, it's about a new programming language, which people can now golf in. You're kind of a newbie here, by the way.
