Lots of Announcers recently. Has the badge changed?

@H.PWiz Looks like a bug to me.
@H.PWiz Has happened on other sites too, but at a different moment.

Q: What's going on with the Announcer badge?

AdámThe Announcer badge was recently awarded to a lot of users simultaneously, on several sites, e.g.: Stack Overflow at 2019-12-12 23:05:01Z Code Golf at 2019-12-12 23:55:12Z TeX at 2019-12-13 00:25:01Z

I was just about to ask the same thing
I just got 22 all at once o_O

Q: Missing publicist badge?

aioobeI've had a link on my webpage to one of my StackOverflow answers for a long time now. For fun, I track it with Google Analytic events, so I know for sure that I've received more than 1000 clicks. Yet I haven't even gotten a booster badge for it. Here's a screenshot for the click events from Goog...

No longer true :'(

@DJMcMayhem If I vote to close my own question as a duplicate, shouldn't it close with that reason right away, without needing any further votes?

12:43 AM
Yes

@DJMcMayhem Why? Shouldn't I report that as a bug then?

1:23 AM
Wow, 42% of Announcer badges on Code-Golf were awarded just then
and I got none of them :(

@JoKing Do you ever share links?

err, not really

That'd explain it.

I did get one a while ago for a Hello World answer. Probably one of the Hexagony ones
@Adám Did I miss the APL event?
oh wait, that was last week

@JoKing No, I had to postpone it to next week. I was too busy teaching APL IRL.

1:34 AM
@Adám Cool, I should be there... except that I now notice that it is at 1:30 AM in my timezone
I guess i'll read the chats afterwards then

@JoKing Hm, yeah, it is kind of hard to find a time that works across the globe.

no worries, i'm used to it by this point

@JoKing This new series was actually asked for by a group of people in India, hence that specific time. However, I don't mind giving you separate 1:1 lessons if you want.

I wonder how I got the 'link visited by 300 IP addresses' and the 'link visited by 1000 IP addresses' badges in the same day from some old link.

@feersum Because there was a bug they fixed, and the recalculation caused badges that should already have been awarded to all be awarded at once.

I see
That's actually pretty weird that they have a database of which IP addresses visited every link.

@Dennis when is TIO gonna have quantum computing capabilities?

11:07 AM
Y'know, the best way to make an application platform independent is to make it a polyglot amongst different languages
E.g. A Swift/Kotlin polyglot for mobile

11:33 AM
It's not out of question that our own universe can't handle quantum computing. The most impressive practical demonstration of quantum entanglement was a 5-qubit chip by IMB, and it had a 5% error in the simplest case of measuring the two-qubit state after a single CNOT.

Yeah, even the letters M and B got flipped. That's what happens in quantum computing…

Nah, that's just normal multithreading

CMC: multithread output of a string such that it gets scrambled.

FR: rename quantum computing to multiversed programming to parallel multithreaded programming.

How do you avoid print s.chars.shuffle.join solutions?

@JohnDvorak By specifying that the reordering has to happen due to multithreaded timing "issues".

that's unobservable

@JohnDvorak you can definitely make the OS sleep functions log their usage to observe a programs behavior. this case is a bit more unclear, but logging thread activity is still definitely very much possible.

but yeah, i understand the need for it - without it there's completely pointless initialization complexity that doesn't add anything to the language besides more difficulty golfing

Thanks to whoever visited a whole bunch of links I shared forever ago... I just received 15 "Announcer" badges for various sites all in the same day.
@Adám None. There was a codegolf conference held a few years ago, wasn't there?
