@JonathanReez This was the explanation perpetuated by The Washington Post on 2 April 2020: washingtonpost.com/history/2020/04/02/…
Oct 11, 2020 05:29
@JonathanReez Hmm, the more I understand about Coronavirus, the more I think herd community isn't good. When you catch COVID-19, even after recovering from it, you will still suffer from long-term complications. Not sure if it's permanent or what, but it definitely isn't cool. If I'm not wrong, you even have brain damage after recovering from COVID-19.

I don't think it's helpful in this convo by denigrating an international organization with top scientists and medical experts there.

New York Times helped perpetuate that masks were ineffective too, by reiterating medical experts' advice in US: https://www.nytimes.com/2020/02/29/health/coronavirus-n95-face-masks.html

There was overwhelming consensus among the scientific community and medical experts that masks would be ineffective.
Oct 11, 2020 05:23
@JonathanReez it is proven to work, but it wasn't widely agreed among the scientific community.

Considering the fact that US states are fairly sovereign and politically autonomous from the federal government, I think it's fair to judge US handling of COVID-19 by omitting Trump to see if non-Trump/Republicans have done a better job and I struggle to see a better outcome between California and Japan.

Many things that Japan has done against the pandemic California could've also done but Cali didn't. Japan imposed travel restriction since 3 Feb but California did nothing only until March 4,2020.

> 2. His administration initially told people not to wear masks and only changed their guidance on April 3rd. You could argue that it was Fauci or the Surgeon General or the WHO claiming that masks aren't helping, but ultimately the Trump administration didn't have to listen to any of them. Masks were mandated by China in Wuhan back in January, no reason why this very same measure couldn't have been copied in America as well.

> 3. Trump could've introduced an early mask mandate in indoor spaces controlled by the Federal government: commercial airlines and airports, Federal prisons, Nationa

Am I able to chat with the community users not presently on StackExchange Chat, as a form of PM?
Mar 17, 2017 09:57
@userr2684291 The grammar rule is genitives?
Mar 17, 2017 09:56
@userr2684291 Whoa, seems like you know the full details behind it. Sadly there's no e-book on Google, the best I can find is this scribd.com/doc/252377510/… but at page 471 it seems to be different.
Mar 17, 2017 09:51
seems so
Mar 17, 2017 09:47
@marcellothearcane That's the link you gave me lol, I've never heard before too and I'm gonna look into it. Now i'm googling CGEL
Mar 17, 2017 09:45
@marcellothearcane Cool! So it's quasi possessive
Mar 17, 2017 09:43
@userr2684291 oh thanks @userr2684291!

This chat is for ELL right... can I ask about *two hours' leave.*

> Grant me a two-hour leave
> Grant me two hours' leave

The first one, ***two-hour*** is an adjective while the 2nd one is possession. Can someone explain to me why and how it's possible to become possession? Why *leave* become a possession of *two hours.*

Q: Why does legal English continue to remain archaic?

BravoPerhaps this is a question for Law.SE if one exists, but I am asking here as there are other nice questions on English history. There is some historical development account presented in Wikipedia, but I find it grossly inadequate to answer the question. English has always been a language that b...

@JasperLoy There is! The downvote might be prejudice against the OP.
Dec 7, 2015 04:39
Hello!
Dec 7, 2015 04:38
Anyone there?
Dec 7, 2015 04:36
So because of that incorrect opinion, I received a downvote.
Dec 7, 2015 04:36
So the reason for my downvote is: _
"Unpolite" is not used by well-educated English speakers in the US. (Can't say about the UK or other places.)_

This is contradictory to the answer I received. The answer I received say it's archaic problem, not so-called educated or non-educated.

Q: What are the differences between "impolite" and "unpolite"?

XPMaiDefinition of impolite in OD: not having or showing good manners; rude. Definition of unpolite in TFD: Not polite; impolite; rude.

Dec 7, 2015 04:34
The reasons they left are primarily opinion-based.
Dec 7, 2015 04:34
I received a downvote, even though I think it's a good question.
Dec 7, 2015 04:34
Can I dispute a downvote?
Dec 7, 2015 04:31
@MrHen I don't know this. If so, it should be included in the rules as example.
Dec 7, 2015 04:30
@MrHen Usually, when talking, I'll always try to optimise my speech. I don't want people to hear a bunch of useless info from me.
Dec 7, 2015 04:28
If the flaggers want me to give definition, just say it and I'll copy and paste. No need to run around the bushes asking me to do research.
Dec 7, 2015 04:27
And research is very broad. How I know it's directing to the definition?
Dec 7, 2015 04:27
The rules only say you need to do research. Yeah, i did.
Dec 7, 2015 04:27
@MrHen The rules didn't write this, and I didn't know that this is a mandatory.
Dec 7, 2015 04:25
There are instances where flagging for more information can be helpful, but not for this case.
Dec 7, 2015 04:24
It isn't really necessary, although it would be great if I had added the definitions.
Dec 7, 2015 04:24
the people who flagged by question
Dec 7, 2015 04:23
@MrHen yeah, because everybody joins the "flagging game". When they see one flags with a valid reason, the others also happily flag for reputation, even though the flag isn't needed.
Dec 7, 2015 04:21
I've added the 2 definitions in now, it's still closed.
Dec 7, 2015 04:21
@MrHen because of the non-specific "request", it counts against my penalty
Dec 7, 2015 04:19
@MrHen ???
Dec 7, 2015 04:17
yeah, I'll add now.

But the information is optional, not required. That's why i can still receive answers.
Dec 7, 2015 04:15
@MrHen but I don't like its rules. Do you find such rule fair? The rules seem to be moderating the OP, not the question itself.
Dec 7, 2015 04:14
I see. Fine, I'll do it.

Now I start to dislike this site because of its unreasonable rules.
Dec 7, 2015 04:13
@MrHen yeah, by right is like that. Many words already increase its complexity, multiple definitions in a single word increase its complexity even more.
Dec 7, 2015 04:12
Where can I discuss about the flagged question to a moderator? This is the same outcome as the other time I tried to enquire using comments.
Dec 7, 2015 04:09
@tchrist I don't understand the whole sentence.
Dec 7, 2015 04:08
hey, regarding my flagged question, why you no reply?
Dec 7, 2015 04:07
each meaning should have their own word. Then we won't need to learn multiple definitions for a word.
Dec 7, 2015 04:07
Why an English word shares multiple meanings? This is makes it complicated.
Dec 7, 2015 04:04
I know that everything can be explained in English, it's very rare to have things exactly the same.
Dec 7, 2015 04:03
@tchrist I didn't know the difference, because I thought they're the same and I was looking for a difference.
Dec 7, 2015 04:03
if you read my question only, without description, would you understand?
