where are the standard loopholes? I can't find the meta post now
Jan 22, 2015 16:09
@NathanMerrill It does for me.
Jan 22, 2015 16:03
@NathanMerrill Have you even bothered to check the Markdown source diff?
Jan 22, 2015 16:02
@NathanMerrill "literally does nothing"? It adds syntax highlighting, like the edit summary says.

A: Sandbox for Proposed Challenges

nyuszika7hHappy Holidays! Introduction With the holidays upon us, I decided to make an appropriately themed challenge. Given a list of holidays and two dates, if the current date falls within the range when the program is run, output an appropriate holiday greeting. Challenge The preset list of recent ...

I updated my proposed challenge to require one specific format, I think it's unnecessary to support so many formats when you can't even use a library for it
Dec 28, 2014 12:41
and then we'd probably want to make sure that only ASCII and APL's character set is used for APL
Dec 28, 2014 12:40
how about something like "printable ASCII only, unless your language heavily utilizes non-ASCII characters, like APL"?
Dec 28, 2014 12:34
bytes are better than characters, because otherwise you may get massive Unicode-encoded nonsense as answers. I learned about that recently, and it's a good point. APL characters actually count as bytes because of the historical character set (unless you use Unicode characters in the program), so that's pretty fair

Q: Input a number and return day of week

CrazyModNot restricted to any one programming language. What I'm saying is you pass 1 to it and it returns Monday, 7 corresponds with sunday and so on. I've managed a 146 byte statement in Java to do the same. return (n<1?"invalid":(n<2?"monday":(n<3?"tuesday":(n<4?"wednesday":(n<5?"thursday":(n<6?"f...

(also hi, not going to be around for long)

@Rusher that'sssssss a nice house you have there, would be a shame if anything happened to it

I love that people go around adding syntax highlighting to posts. It reminds me of those nice people that fill the holes made by exploding creepers in Minecraft.

I'm used to rosetta stone being as many languages as possible, in one answer
Jun 15, 2014 15:03
> Rosetta stone is a tag that designates challenges where the goal is to write your solution in as many programming languages as possible.
Jun 15, 2014 15:03
I think some people are misusing

Q: Largest number in ten bytes of code

YpnypnYour goal is to print (to the standard output) the largest number possible, using just ten characters of code. You may use any features of your language, except built-in exponentiation functions. Similarly, you may not use scientific notation to enter a number. (Thus, no 9e+99.) The program m...

heh, I just realized, this question I linked to is old, and apparently I even saw it some years ago, but I didn't remember
Jun 15, 2014 09:39
@m.buettner oh, I thought the question

Q: How to write a single-line password generator

powtacIs there a way of writing a password generator in only one line? The password should consist of 8 random chars out of a-z, A-Z and 0-9. It should also return a different password every-time. Also, you can not use characters that can combine two lines of code into one, like ; (if your program l...

what is this "chat for hat" thing?

Dec 5, 2014 19:50
You know, the great thing about having a community is that we're not alone. There are others who can comment on this too. Don't expect proper evidence from me when it's practically impossible, not having taken a screenshot back when the other PHP answer was at the first revision, because I didn't have a reason to do so.
Dec 5, 2014 19:49
@IsmaelMiguel As I said, I obviously can't provide evidence myself. Why else would you be doing this if not to troll?
Dec 5, 2014 19:48
I'm not going to waste my precious time on you; I've already said everything I wanted to. I hope to never see you again, bye.
Dec 5, 2014 19:47
@IsmaelMiguel You're pretty obviously just trolling now. I'm not a moderator and I'm not even sure if they can see deleted comments. So like I said, if you want evidence, you should seek it from the OP or the answerer.
Dec 5, 2014 19:46
The comments were deleted because they're obsolete. That's just how Stack Exchange works. Like I said, I'm sure the OP (or the person who wrote that answer) will be glad to confirm.
Dec 5, 2014 19:46
Revision history of said post. But if that isn't enough, I'm sure @Nit will be glad to confirm that the original version of that was invalid.
Dec 5, 2014 19:46
That alone isn't valid, someone else already tried that.
Dec 5, 2014 19:46
.htaccess is not even code, it's just a limited configuration file. If this is valid (which apparently it is, judging by the fact that the OP hasn't said anything) then I'll eat my hat. Seriously though.
Dec 5, 2014 19:46
You're relying on having Apache already running, and I don't think it will work without changing the default configuration either. I don't care what you say, there's no way I can see this as being valid. But you should ask @Nit, as it's their question.
Dec 5, 2014 19:46
-1, this is not a complete program. It relies on an external web server.

@Mig I'm sorry, that's a result of me being in an IRC community for a prolonged period where things like that are usually not taken seriously. that's not to say it's your fault, because it's clearly my fault
Oct 27, 2014 21:41
we're trying to remove characters from the first line, and some idiot comes by and adds extra characters "to make future answers more challenging"
Oct 27, 2014 20:28
@FireFly yeah, and Nit added an extra comment character instead of removing the # too
Oct 27, 2014 20:26
@Stacey why not do something about the special characters with the remaining 2 edits?
Oct 27, 2014 19:39
that or \typeout{ for TeX
Oct 27, 2014 19:30
#include doesn't sound particularly useful, you don't need stdio.h for the program to compile
Oct 27, 2014 19:14
done
Oct 27, 2014 19:13
hmm I can do that real quick maybe
Oct 27, 2014 18:48
the Racket answer is invalid :/

Sep 22, 2014 17:54
@Arsalan00 You're missing an important point. There is usually a GUI for package managers (Ubuntu Software Center, Synaptic, YaST, etc.).
