Is it possible to ignore `wildignore` for insert-mode file name completions (C-x C-f)?
I have set the `wildignore` to ignore most non-text files to skip them when completing in `tabedit` and `edit` commands since they can't be edited using a text-editor. But the side effect is that those files are also ignored in insert-mode completion for files. Is there a way to stop this behaviour? Or have independent ignore-list for insert-mode file name completion?

@DavidCarlisle Thanks @DavidCarlisle, that did the trick with xcolor package.

I have a document where I use different colours at various locations. Sometimes, I want the PDF in black and white only. Instead of changing the colours I'm using manually, I was thinking about passing an argument to the document class specifying whether to use colours or just black, like following:
`\documentclass[colours=disable]{article}`
and check for the argument's value to set the colours using an if-else condition.

I have a question that I thought I would ask here before posting on the site.
How can I pass custom arguments to a document class and access the argument as a variable to set some options in the preamble?

Hello there, everyone
Jun 22, 2022 12:15
@UlrikeFischer That must be it. I have added uniquelist=false and it is working as expected. Thanks @UlrikeFischer

This answer shows the output I want.
Jun 22, 2022 12:03
My options are
\usepackage[
style=authoryear-comp,
maxcitenames=2, mincitenames=1,
sorting=nyt, terseinits=true,
isbn=false, dashed=false]{biblatex}

Hi all,
I have a problem with in-text citations using biblatex. I want the in-text citations to show all authors when the number of authors are two or less, otherwise show the first author and use `et. al.
From the biblatex user manual , I assume the options are `mincitenames=2` and `maxcitenames=21, but it doesn't seem to work. There's this [post](https://tex.stackexchange.com/questions/121625/biblatex-modify-maxcitenames-to-work-in-three-cases) that advises to use only `maxcitenames=2`, but that doesn't work either.

[This](https://chat.stackexchange.com/transcript/message/61248416#61248416) is what I want to do.
Right now, subplots are centered in the figure env. Would it be possible to right align all the subplots?
May 30, 2022 09:20
@mickep Do you mean an image file that is blank or something else?
May 30, 2022 09:19
May 30, 2022 09:19
My ASCII art doesn't seem to be clear, I'm attaching an image to better show what I want.
May 30, 2022 09:14
Is there a way to put an empty subfigure in a figure?

For example, in a 3x4 grid of subplots, I would like to not show anything at grid 2,1?

Visual representation:
'x x x x'
' x x x'
'x x x x'

Thanks for the tip, @DavidCarlisle
I removed all symlinks from my path and installed the new TeX Live version.
Apr 4, 2022 06:02
I did not think of that.
I just checked, they are indeed symlinks to the TeXLive install's bin.
Apr 4, 2022 05:40
Does `tlmgr remove --all` remove all packages and binaries of TeX Live I installed manually?
I would like to reinstall TeX Live from the iso, but there's like hundreds of binaries in my path and I want to remove them too for a clean install. The trouble is, I don't know which of them are related to TeX Live (yeah, should have put them in a separate folder).

@samcarter Thanks mate, that did the trick.

\documentclass[12pt, a4paper]{article}

\usepackage{graphicx}
\graphicspath{{./images/}}
\usepackage{fontspec}
\setmainfont{Times New Roman}
\usepackage{subcaption}
\captionsetup{textfont={it, normalsize}}
\captionsetup{skip=1pt}
\renewcommand{\thesubfigure}{\roman{subfigure}}

\begin{document}
The first sub-figure, Fig.~\ref{fig:dog-01}, contains an image of a dog, while the second sub-figure, Fig.~\ref{fig:dog-02}, contains image of yet another dog.
\begin{figure}[htbp]
\centering
\begin{subfigure}[b]{.48\linewidth}
Mar 20, 2022 17:18
There's the option labelsep=, but it only works for the caption below the figure, not when it's referenced in the body.
Mar 20, 2022 17:13
@DavidCarlisle This one almost works, can I configure it within the subcaption/caption package?
Mar 20, 2022 16:15
I problem is, currently, the figure and sub-figure number/label are separated by a space, like 'Fig. 11ii', which doesn't look good.
Mar 20, 2022 16:13
Do you know how can I change the separator?
@samcarter I too use the `subcaption` package.
Mar 20, 2022 14:47
Btw, what's the preferred package for sub-figures?
Mar 20, 2022 14:46
What's the name of the separator that separates figure number and sub-figure number when a sub-figure is referenced?
For instance: Fig. 1-ii, here the separator is - (hyphen).
Mar 12, 2022 11:01
I don't know why Firefox automatically turned on that option for this specific PDF only.
Mar 12, 2022 10:58
Wait, I had the 'Even Spreads' option turned on in the reader, that was it.
Mar 12, 2022 10:55
Maybe *page layout* isn't proper term here.
I meant the pdf shows two pages side-by-side, except for the first and last page, that's what I was referring to.
Mar 12, 2022 10:39
Thanks @DavidCarlisle @Rmano, that did the trick.
Mar 12, 2022 10:35
@mickep On a different note, what's that page layout called?
Mar 12, 2022 05:59
I tried using the \displaylimits for the second integral too, but it doesn't work.
Mar 12, 2022 05:57
Here's the MWE:

\documentclass[12pt, a4paper]{article}
\usepackage{amsmath}

\begin{document}

\begin{equation}
W=\int\displaylimits_{x-\frac{1}{x}}^{x+\frac{1}{x}} x\,dx \frac{x\,dx}{\int_{x-\frac{1}{x}}^{x+\frac{1}{x}}x\,dx}
\end{equation}

\end{document}
Mar 12, 2022 05:57
How do I position the limits of the second integral above/below the integral symbol, similar to the first integral?
Mar 12, 2022 05:56

 Root Access

For all you Super Users out there. You have backups, right?
Jun 20, 2022 07:54
But using the Linux ftp command, it says '150 Opening ASCII mode data connection.' and there are problems.
Jun 20, 2022 07:52
Okay, I have got some more information from FileZilla logs. The connection hangs and times out at 'Response: 150 Opening BINARY mode data connection.'
Jun 20, 2022 06:42
I'm at my wit's end here now. How do I go about debugging it?
Jun 20, 2022 06:41
Hey all.
I have a strange problem going on with a new FTP server we have configured with access from internet. The problem is, I can connect to it using the `ftp` command on Linux and it works well, but both FileZilla and WinSCP time out on the data channel.
It even works on properly on Nautilus and Thunar file managers properly.
Jun 1, 2022 07:32
The problem is, I have fail2ban configured in one of my system. The log shows the same IP address whenever I connect to it from the internet. And the IP is a private one. Which means, if someone tries to brute-force the ssh server fail2ban would ban that IP, and I would be locked out as well.
So, I was wondering whether it's the IP of whatever is forwarding the port.
Jun 1, 2022 07:25
Hi everyone, I have a question regarding Port forwarding.
Which IP address would the local PC would see when a connection is received from the internet, the forwarding router's IP or the connecting system's IP?
Apr 9, 2022 16:08
@JourneymanGeek Is scp a better option than rsync to keep files in sync though?
Apr 8, 2022 07:24
https://winscp.net/eng/docs/guide_schedule
Yeah, WinSCP supports scheduled file transfers. This is probably what I need, I will test it once the server is set up.
Apr 7, 2022 18:53
Would WinSCP be able to do it?
I see that it supports SFTP, FTP and SCP protocols for transferring file. Has anyone used WinSCP to automatically upload data to an ftp server at regular intervals?
Apr 7, 2022 18:49
I have a vague memory of using robocopy some years ago. I will certainly check it out.
Btw, does robocopy support copying to an (s)ftp server running on a Linux system?
Apr 7, 2022 18:39
Hi all.
How would you go about regularly uploading files from a specific directory in Windows to a remote (s)ftp server?
We have an instrument installed at a remote location and would like to get it's data to an ftp server at our location. The remote system in question runs Windows 10.
If it were a Linux system, I hope a cron job with rsync would have worked. But I'm out of my depth with Windows systems, that's why I'm asking.
Apr 6, 2022 07:06
So, if I plug a PC directly to the modem, the PC gets the public IP.
If the PC is behind a router, the router gets the public IP and I'll have to do port-forwarding from the router.
Apr 6, 2022 05:29
Hey all
I need some clarification on setting up a public IP address.
Correct me if I'm wrong, but isn't the public IP assigned to a router? The router then forwards any requests coming to specific ports to specific systems in the network, right?
Mar 10, 2022 14:55
@MiG lol
Mar 10, 2022 14:55
Should I get a replacement?
It's a new one.
