Is "is X grammatical" grammatically correct?

Jun 27, 2023 09:48
Thanks everyone. I'll not use the # notation and go for $N_$ instead. Looks much more scientific now :-)
Jun 27, 2023 07:25
@Rmano: thanks for that. It is for non-English speakers
Jun 27, 2023 07:21
Most Google results are for counting pages or paragraphs or elements in TeX, which is not what I need.
Jun 27, 2023 07:20
@mickep thanks. Currently I don't even know a search term I would use for #. Google is not particularly good when it comes to special characters. Also "count" and "number of" give search results that don't fit
Jun 27, 2023 07:19
Maybe #cups * volume = total volume would be a better example.
Jun 27, 2023 07:16
My question is: when typesetting a formula, how would I express "number of features" multiplied by "number of sizes"?
Would #features * #sizes be used? If so, how would it be formatted?
Jun 27, 2023 07:14
Hi. I don't see much of a usage description for this room, so I presume this is a general purpose chat.

PIP - that one fails for me often as well. I never got fired because of that, though.

I see that this Q&A has an answer mentioning to hold the Reset button. That files under the category "Watchdog timer problems". This doesn't exactly sound like "TTL serial chip has a problem".
Mar 9, 2023 06:22
@Juraj: I left the rooms ~1 hour ago, sorry. I don't know the exact chip, but I can tell that it needs the Holtek UART Bridge USB driver and identifies as Vendor ID 04D9, Product ID B534
Mar 9, 2023 06:22
@Juraj: I'm willing to accept this as a hardware issue. Is there a duplicate that we could close this question or do you want to post an answer?
Mar 9, 2023 06:22
@datenheim: I answered it in the comments already and now put it into the question: it's Elegoo Smart Robot Car Kit 3.0 Plus
Mar 9, 2023 06:22
@Juraj: holy cow... I'm programming with these kids since 2018 and we never had this issue yet, although we use Serial output in almost every sketch. And these kids really try everything, including baud rates up to 2000000. We never had to hold reset before. But your method works in ~9 out of 10 cases. I can't believe this.
Mar 9, 2023 06:22
@jsotola: that command line makes the unbricking process a bit faster. Thanks
Mar 9, 2023 06:22
@jsotola: I can certainly try a lot of things. Honestly, I don't want to program by coincidence and have a fix which works accidentally. Why and how would this affect anything, except for an obvious delay?
Mar 9, 2023 06:22
@Bra1n: thank you. Currently I only have access to 9 of these robots and no other Arduinos. They are all affected. They are all of the same type, bought at the same time, so it's possible that they all have the same hardware bug.
Mar 9, 2023 06:22
@6v6gt: sure, the Arduino reference says "If the pin isn’t connected to anything, digitalRead() can return either HIGH or LOW (and this can change randomly).". This is called a "floating pin". But that should not be C++ Undefined Behavior, right? It still has defined behavior, just not predictable.
Mar 9, 2023 06:22
@Bra1n: yes, I unplugged the Robot shield.
Mar 9, 2023 06:22
@Bra1n: yes, that's basically what happens. It's not possible to upload this sketch any more and it takes 8 steps to upload an empty sketch.

I got the "Back in my day" hat (which I'm currently wearing) and I think it might be achieved by self-answering a question.
Dec 17, 2022 09:47
Is it appreciated if we discuss secret hats here, probably revealing their criteria of achievement?

There are performance measurements described in the paper, but it's unclear to me how these measurements were carried out: which optimization, which compiler, which hardware (CPU, cache, RAM)? Eric Lippert described benchmarking mistakes. So many things can go wrong while measuring. When reading the paper, I liked to be certain that you didn't make any benchmarking mistakes. ericlippert.com/2013/05/14/benchmarking-mistakes-part-one Printing during the measurement is not good, since the console is synchronized (and makes a difference at least for multithreaded programs)

I generally feel that the age recommendations on Lego stuff is about twice as high as it should be. But hey, it makes all kids feel happy, so why not. My son has completed the set 42055 at the age of 8. Is he talented? I don't think so.

Thanks for your feedback, everyone. Have a nice day.
Apr 13, 2022 08:12
@fenixleon: ok, thanks. I will just enter it like that. Someone else will need to do a review and an evaluation anyway. I just don't like to be straight wrong ;-)
Apr 13, 2022 08:02
@nobody: that's something I don't know and can't judge about. It's about time accounting information. Actually I have access to that information for the current month, i.e. when I enter the data. On the last day of the month, I could save the information and thus keep an archive myself. So, basically it's information I already knew about and it's just a question of what I can remember or not.
Apr 13, 2022 07:59
@fenixleon: yes, that sounds plausible. Like M4: Unintended Data Leakage

Apr 13, 2022 07:51
@nobody: actually I have 2 issues. One is about others, that is probably A01:2021-Broken Access Control
The second is just information about myself, but to which I don't have access using links provided by the web app itself.
Apr 13, 2022 07:34
Hello everybody. Say I have a web application where I can access personal information about myself. There are links to go to the past 2 months. However, maniuplating URL parameters, I can access all time information. Which security risk category would that be?
Dec 19, 2021 16:53
Thanks for all the resources. I'll see how far I get. The application in question is x64 on Windows, so probably a bit more advanced.
Dec 19, 2021 16:14
@MechMK1: I'm quite good at debugging and I use WinDbg regularly. Which "the basic examples" would you recommend? I'm willing to go through these.
Dec 18, 2021 22:55
Hello everyone. I have an application which has a buffer overflow. It looks like a 255 byte buffer on the stack with 512 bytes written to it. I can see my text input on the stack. It also works with binary 0x90 (nop) in the clipboard. How would I proceed from here in order to run calc.exe? Would this make a good question on SE or does someone in chat simply have a good link on this topic?

PHP does not use OOP? At least you can implement your stuff using OOP, can't you?

Is it expected that the author implements challenges himself before posting them? E.g. checking all the test cases against an implementation (potentially ungolfed).

I attempted to download Rigol MSO5000 firmware from rigolna.com/firmware. There is a link for that model's firmware v 01.03.00.01, which is beyondmeasure.rigoltech.com/acton/ct/1579/p-00ac/Bct/-/-/ct19_0/… However, the file it downloads is named MSO5_FW_V1_1_4_4.zip Yet, the release notes contained inside mention v00.01.03.00.01 Is this a known file name issue?

You definitely need to get your math right. 999/1000 is different from 999/100. Also, can luck change the laws of physics? I don't think so.
