Did we lose a prominent user recently? I just lost 250 rep on A&C which makes me think it was someone important.
Dec 20, 2018 14:11
Havent been here much lately. Too much life to deal with but I will try.
Dec 20, 2018 14:11
I need to try and get more quality questions up. I feel that there a too many off topic ones that are getting through.
Jul 29, 2018 11:16
@Catija Congrats on the being a Community Team member. That is awesome.
Jul 29, 2018 11:16
This chat room is largely sparse of activity. Feel free to ask or talk anyway. People still do drive thru here.

@Stephie How good is her memory? I would think all you would have to do is distract her with something else.... Dear... look at this potato sack. Isnt that super cool? BURLAP HALLOWEEN!
Jan 7, 2018 17:38
@muse I have issues with this question. The second half would certainly invite opinions. With that removed it just seems like a list question that has no determinable end.
Dec 27, 2017 13:30
Or is it really like pom pom
Dec 27, 2017 13:30
How is the beard assembled? Looking at that last picture makes it seems tedious but I am sure that it is not
Dec 27, 2017 13:03
@Stephie Stuffed felt hat on top of a pom pom like object with a nose?
Dec 27, 2017 13:02
@CreationEdge Reminds me of Gnomeo and Juliet....
Dec 22, 2017 20:47
I just discovered washi tape and feel the world of crafting has opened to me.
Oct 18, 2017 13:22
@muse Should we close that one then?
Oct 15, 2017 02:34

@EvanCarroll Holy shit. I think the integrity errors stopped. I need to redo my replication but I think everything is going to be alright. Thanks dude.
Jul 31, 2018 23:33
Ran another full and the log is still big. There is no Log Reuse Wait Description anymore though for now.
Jul 31, 2018 23:18
Thanks so far for the help. Its getting me going
Jul 31, 2018 23:18
Don't think that will fix the issue but its a problem I think I can fix so I will start with that.
Jul 31, 2018 23:18
I deleted the rep publication on that server for that DB. Log should be backed up in 8 minutes so I will let the schedule pick that one up.
Jul 31, 2018 23:15
Database Name | Recovery Model | Log Reuse Wait Description
Skyline_Data | FULL | REPLICATION
Jul 31, 2018 23:14
Hmmm... That database is also replicated. It seems replaction is not working either and it might be preventing the log from properly being cleared.
Jul 31, 2018 23:01
I did a full several hours ago and the agent has been doing trans every hour
Jul 31, 2018 23:01
The database [Skyline_Data] has a 9 GB transaction log file, larger than the total data file sizes. This may indicate that transaction log backups are not being performed or not performed often enough.
Jul 31, 2018 22:50
@EvanCarroll The most significant thing to come out of that would be Transaction Log Larger than Data File for my db in question. I would have thought a full backup would have cleaned that up.
Jul 31, 2018 22:43
Finally got in. Running sp_Blitz right now.
Jul 31, 2018 22:30
Apparently I cannot RDP to my system due to a CredSSP bug.... arg.. not my day.
Jul 31, 2018 22:18
I am trying to get on my machine at work to add the sp and give the health check a shot. Doing it now.
Jul 31, 2018 22:05
Will certainly have a look. Thanks.
Jul 31, 2018 21:57
I didnt notice these until hours later. I ran a DBcc checkdb and it came back fine but the alerts persist. I know that I am supposed to do a full restore to address this but that is what I did in the first place and its been too long to roll back. I think the issue was there were trans logs that had not been backup. I mostly think I just need to try DBCC CHECKDB('database_name', REPAIR_REBUILD) but I don't understand the impact fully.
Jul 31, 2018 21:57
Forgive me as there is not enough information here i'm just having a little freak out and wanted to chat. I tried to do a db restore earlier today (mssql08) on a production server (due to a failed database update from a vendor) and the restore went fine. However sometime later I started getting Integrity failure alerts on the database.
Oct 21, 2017 20:14
I'm new to DBA stuff but ticked off that the other DBA basically is calling me reckless. ( You guys cannot fix that)
Oct 21, 2017 20:12
Are diffs that bad? Or is it more of a case of "Know what you are getting into". It would not be a big deal to make restore scripts at every backup so as to reduce the pain of pulling those together in a pinch. Since our backups are stored withing the network (another physical site) restore times are not that much of a concern. We only have 80gb worth of DB's anyway.
Oct 21, 2017 20:12
If you have all your backups verified (I am testing Ola's scripts) then you should be ok. The backups are stored of site on another computer file server and the main files are backed up nightly by a system backing up the VM itself.
Oct 21, 2017 20:10
Does Brent Ozar spend any time here on weekends? Not that he needs to respond personally but I have questions about his post about Diff backups. Most of the issues seem mitigated by being aware of your backup strategies and testing your backups. I suggested that we try diffs to my other DBA and he basically barfed the internet at me for suggesting it. All backup strategies have pros and cons...

@TomV Thanks for the info. They would be unique for me but for how often I have to look at them I will leave it alone. Connecting the IDs is not difficult. Thanks. I had looked in the FAQ but somehow missed that.
Oct 17, 2017 14:02
@TomV I thought that initially but I figured the time stamp would handle that.
Oct 17, 2017 14:01
Do you mean you skip the sqlcmd calls and execute the SP's directly?
Oct 17, 2017 13:56
I was trying to figure out if there is a good reason for the ID to be used instead of the name which I find to be more descriptive.
Oct 17, 2017 13:55
Why choose JOBID? There is a JOBNAME as well. I am tempted to change them all so they are easier to read.
Oct 17, 2017 13:55
Example: DatabaseBackup_0x1002ED0AF4A6DE429289853FE5D55B91_1_20171017_30000
Oct 17, 2017 13:55
I was curious about a logging choice. In the output log files for most of the tasks it has a job type prefix like DatabaseBackup_(JOBID)_(STEPID)_(DATE)_(TIME).txt
Oct 17, 2017 13:54
...people talking to me.... just a sec
Oct 17, 2017 13:44
Anyone here actually use ola hallengren's SQL backup procedures?

@Captain That is just a syntax error. Not a review. At least not yet

Will check it out. Thanks.

@Donald.McLean Any online reading recommendations of the top of your head?
Apr 24, 2018 13:40
Anyone know of a good primer for python threading? Things like async, await, blocking and concepts around that. I have been code biting some examples but don't quite understand how they work... Apparently fileio is blocking so I am working around that with aiofiles but I would like to understand what the hell I am doing.
Jan 19, 2018 20:14
I created but its really about the plugins so I am not sure what the tag should be if not
