@gertvdijk I don't think this is a "Me Too!" answer.

@Seth How are you?

@Lucio just fine I guess. You?

I'm great!

@Lucio I suppose you have been checking your suggested edits huh?

haha, exactly ;)

12:06 AM
If you want to emphasize something use italics please :)
bold in the middle of a sentence is just hard to read.

like this ?

yeah, like that ;)

Well, you should know, you have planted a seed that will be hard to remove :P

I have no worries :)
Jorge will actually reject edits with bold in them.

I can imagine you removing my italic effects.. Hundreds of them!

12:09 AM
@Lucio maybe a few, but I think if you had done italics just now I'd have passed them just fine.

Great, let my see.. :P

lol :D

@Seth See the photos (top-right) of this site. Hurry up to do second click & save this files :)
The first one is very popular.

@Seth link dead?

@gertvdijk eh?

@Seth "There are no items for you to review." gives it

ah, sorry. Just a minute.
@Lucio LOL

@Seth ah that one. It is a "me too" because, well, see the comments on the Q.

seems like a good enough answer to me... "I had this too, I solved it by using 32bit instead of 64"

@Seth "been there done that" by the OP
so maybe it's more of a "not an answer" type of flag then

maybe..

12:23 AM
@Seth Is hard to read the other words that don't have the bold effect, that is the goal ;)

@jrg the question is probably designed to link back to the site as well. Its quite horrible as it is too

@JourneymanGeek Hi.
@Oli Hi. Are you around? There's some tricky spam...and it's being posted on AU and across the network. (I've flagged it everywhere I've seen it, but I figured you might want to hear about it all in one place.)

This, this, this, and this all advertise sites that have lots of spam on SE. (And in a very promotional way too ...most of the posts are even exact reposts.) If you want information on related spam elsewhere on SE, please let me know.
(In the mean time, more flagging by non-moderators is of course always good.)

6:20 AM
@EliahKagan: yeah
I'm superfamiliar with this off superuser ;p

@EliahKagan If only they used their powers for good. :-/

6:40 AM
Well, if you haven't already spam-flagged them, I recommend doing so.
(Unrelated) Do we wait as long on meta to close abandoned support questions. I'm thinking of this, which we would definitely not close as abandoned on main, but which I wonder if we should close on meta:
1
Q: AskUbuntu does not recognize my account email

PaulI have been communicating with AskUbuntu for a few weeks on Windows while I brought my Ubuntu internet connection up to speed. Now that I am up and running on Ubuntu, I would like to use my same account, but StackExchange says it does not recognize my email address, clearly displayed in my Window...

@Eliah Kagan Done. What is the threshold for answers like that just disappearing? On occasion, I have left posts alone with -2 or -3 score since I figure that they already have a mods attention

@maggotbrain For score, there is no threshold. A post can be quite negative, and no moderator is informed. Anytime a moderator should know about a situation with a post, the post should always be flagged. Since this is spam, I recommend using the spam flag. A few spam flags from users actually do delete a post, while less still inform moderators.
Downvoting means a post is wrong, unhelpful, or dangerous, but it does not mean anything needs to happen to the post. Downvotes make it easier for 20k users to delete posts, but they don't cause posts to be deleted.
If you downvote a post and it's deleted, you get your 1 rep back. If you spam flag a post, you never lose rep at all (but only spam flag for actual spam!!). You can also do both.
Spam should always at least be spam-flagged.
I think the specific number of spam flags a post needs, to be automatically deleted, varies based on a variety of heuristic factors. Mark Gravell says it's "about 6":
4
A: What actually happens when you click the "spam" link for a question or answer?

Marc GravellA spam vote (like an offensive vote) is very simple; there is no retraction (or even obvious visibility). But don't panic if you do it by accident; it needs about 6 such votes before the system will automatically step in. Before that, items with spam/offensive votes are visible to users with 10k...

7:02 AM
Thanks for the info. I should clarify. When I see obvious spam, then I do flag it. I'm a bit more hesitant on flagging Q's of "low quality" as I'm still somewhat new and wish to give the questioner the benefit of the doubt.

@maggotbrain Yes, low quality questions should not be flagged as spam. Those four posts I linked to above, though, are spam--they advertise a site advertised by a lot of similar spam, often identically worded spam, by multiple sockpuppets across the SE network. (Much of it has been deleted but the Google cache will show some of it.)

@GerhardBurger can't you customize unattended-upgrades?
(never did it so idk)

9:58 AM
You can customize it by increasing the random sleep interval, but that random sleep interval is still relative to the time cron.daily is executed
but the other cron.daily jobs will be delayed when unattended upgrades is 'sleeping'

A: What's a good way to run a virtual copy of Ubuntu on Windows 7?

Justin AndruskThis really isn't an Ubuntu specific question, but you need to install Cygwin inside your Windows 7 session. Cygwin is a Linux emulator. You can then run your Linux executable from within your Cygwin session. http://www.cygwin.com/install.html

@EliahKagan yes, just like any other "wrong answer"

@gertvdijk Well, it's considerably further from addressing the situation in the question than most wrong answers.

jrg
3:18 PM
Cygwin sure gets me a heckuva lot closer to having my native linux tools around. :P

3:37 PM
@jrg Yes, it's awesome! The question there, though, is about how to run a Linux executable on Windows.

Someone ran a GUI for SELinux?
in Ubuntu

jrg
there is a selinux gui?

@Lucio Yes, that too. They want to run Ubuntu on Windows. They want to run a Linux executable in Ubuntu.
@jrg SELinux is Linux ...no reason you can't have a GUI.
@Lucio Do you mean a GUI utility to control SELinux capabilities?

@jrg That is the question, I don't know..
@EliahKagan Right

@Lucio Ah. That could be useful.

3:40 PM
yep

something existed in fedora 8 according to wikipedia.

quite different

@jrg Don't worry. I will research a little more later.. Now I have hunger! :-)

VRU
Hi Geeks!
@EliahKagan Hi I finally installed ubuntu on my system only through VMWare Palyer
now I am thinking, weather I can update my system GPU driver from here....
what is the command to update gpu?

4:00 PM
@VRU Are you saying you installed it to a physical disk with VMware?

VRU
I have windows xp and on which I installed VMWare

@VRU Do you want to install a driver for the real hardware, or for the hardware of the virtual machine? Or just get the VMware guest to use graphics acceleration? Or are you trying to update firmware on the card itself, rather than drivers?

VRU
@EliahKagan I want to give try to the real hardware because it was the one which was causing not to install ubuntu directly on to the physical driver
as i guess
FYI: I have a assembled PC with Intel Pentium D processor and its chipset Intel 102D with ati radeon xpress 200

@VRU Virtualization solutions so far don't enable a virtual machine to directly access the host's GPU. So if I am understanding your correct, you cannot do this. But is your goal to run Ubuntu in a VM, or on the physical machine?

@gertvdijk "@GerhardBurger 1) Who says frustrations are welcome in chat? :) 2) One needs some reputation to be able to talk in chat."

4:10 PM
I mean, you can install drivers for the host machine's video card on the guest. They won't do anything, though. This would only make sense if the same system were being run on the physical hardware and (at other times) virtualized. If that were the case, then the system should have video drivers for both GPUs.

haha
well i thought the chat was a better place than in a question
in the chat you can just say STFU
(but that wouldn't be nice, would it)
I was trusting in the people skills of the people in the chatroom to handle frustrations ;)

VRU
@EliahKagan Oh Okay. I understand now
Eliah what about the other option you were saying, like if I wish to upgrade only the Virtualization gpu performance
may be some accelerator
b'coz the appereance is still not good, as if it needs boos for the graphics
boost*

@VRU You can enable 3D graphics acceleration in the virtual machine. It's in the settings for the VM. I believe it requires VMware Tools to be installed in the VM (though the necessary components may already be part of Ubuntu). You can enable/disable graphics acceleration, and you can also change the amount of video memory the VM has (so if you want good performance, you may want to increase that).

VRU
oh okay I will just test and let you know, thanks! for your prompt response.
@EliahKagan I guess as I am using VMWare Player there are not much of options... and 3D- accelerator seems to be with nvidea i don't see for ati... may be i will try installing vmware work station

4:26 PM
@VRU Yeah, VMware Workstation should let you do that. But if you don't have it, you can also manually edit the .vmx file.

VRU
oh okay...
@EliahKagan signing off for the day, see you tomorrow

@VRU Bye.

There is a PHP error in a w3.org page: w3.org/International/questions/qa-date-format.es.php insteresting..

Huh? Where?
@Urbycoz wait a couple years and it will be in every dictionary, just like "to google" and "to facebook". And again, using numbers to spell words is not grammatically wrong. The grammar of a sentence does not change in the slightest if you replace "plus" with "+" or "you" with "u". Which is why we have textspeak. Or Morse code, for that matter. — RegDwighт Mar 14 '12 at 20:21
... Soo ... "to facebook" is a verb now?
A legitimate and commonly used one, that is?

@maggotbrain Thx, I've commented on the one on Stack Overflow (it's off-topic there so it will probably just be closed there and kept open here, probably there is no need to comment on the one here).
@FEichinger "Google" and "facebook" are pretty commonly used, in informal speech and writing, as verbs, with or without capitalization. I don't know what it means for a word to be "legitimate" or not, so I can't answer that part.

11:10 PM
@EliahKagan I've never ever heard anyone use FB as a verb, and it seems weirder than using Google as a verb by ... a very long stretch.

"He Facebooked it."

I only heard that as "He posted it on Facebook." or similar.

@FEichinger I don't think it's weirder, but I would be interested to know if "Google" is used more broadly than "Facebook." I don't mean more commonly. Rather, I'd be interested to know if people use "Google" to encompass searching the web with search engines other than Google. I suspect that some people do, and that in comparison very few people use "Facebook" as a verb to describe posting something on other social networking sites besides Facebook.

@EliahKagan Well, according to Microsoft Googling on Bing is fine. :P
