12:01 AM
@JorgeCastro hmm, your right. Guess I didn't read the whole thing.

fixed!
the sentence didn't read right at all

thanks.
We have a raspberry pi tag?
good grief.

ubuntu runs on the raspi?

@JourneymanGeek yeah, why not?
@Seth we have a tag for every Apple device too! :) haha

@gertvdijk: ubuntu dosen't support the particular, older, version of arm that the raspi uses

12:09 AM
yeah, not to mention there is a Raspi SE now.
@gertvdijk lol

@JourneymanGeek ah, okay, didn't know that. Debian does, so I don't see why Ubuntu would have difficulties with it other than it just being a policy

shrug

@gertvdijk: pretty much precisely that

Canonical probably was just trying to focus on phones.

yeah, and V7 and better
even raspian is pretty heavily in development

12:12 AM
Why not just use Debian though?
Unity is probably too much for one anyway

thats what I do ;p
*g*
yeah
LXDE would work better
BUT if they could get unity to work on that little thing, it could run on anything

What do you do when a new user removes the code formatting you just added?

add it back

OK

then comment why

12:14 AM
"It seems to me that Ubuntu seems to have a big brand name following - people, like you, seem to want it like they want their Coca Cola." (bottom of this page)

looooooooool

@gertvdijk: pretty much

@JourneymanGeek like what kind of comment?

and I'm familiar with it
'Oh, I've taken the liberty to add code formatting to your post so its more readable. Please don't roll it back.' etc etc

the liberty? hmm...
well, I'll add something like that.

12:15 AM
Thats exactly what i say

What do ya make of this? I don't get why he wants it like that...

@Seth shrug

well, he left the formatting this time.

Because "How dare you edit my posts!" perhaps?
3
Could just ping him and ask.

12:18 AM
@FEichinger users only mods can ping users that haven't entered chat in 3 or so days

well, actually, it's a bit harder to maintain the formatting with indented-by-four parts within numbered lists.

he doesn't have 20 rep anyway

@Seth He doesn't? :P

@gertvdijk It still works..

@Seth now he has!
@Seth no, you'll need 8 spaces then

12:19 AM
@FEichinger lol
@gertvdijk yeah, but it doesn't show 8 spaces.
@FEichinger he lost an upvote now...

No, he gained a downvote.

oops, yeah ;)

I wonder who did that, though.
And why.

Check the revision history
@mateo_salta just came and added the numbers back...
this is getting funny

Yeh.
E-DIT-WAR! E-DIT-WAR! E-DIT-WAR!

12:23 AM
not yet..

well, It is a list to steps to begin with, so having the numbers is completly logical and helpful

@mateo_salta Yeh, we came to that conclusion already. :P

I'm avoiding the review queue for editing. Seems that when I start editing straight from when the post is posted it's very less likely to get a collision with other editors.

The only edit collision I've ever had was when I killed a sub 2k edit on accident.

I'll back you up, and put a comment so he understands what we are trying to achieve @Seth

12:26 AM
@mateo_salta Thanks. I up-ticked the comment.
I figured he didn't need one since he left the formatting alone the second time.
Whats up with the bold fad? This is happening a lot.
We don't need bold for that.

@Seth I mean edits when another user has already edited it and I cannot submit it anymore. Usually my edit is more thorough and took more time as a result - yet it's discouraging to do so as the longer you wait to press "Submit" the more likely that banner will pop up stating you'll have to start from scratch.

bold and code?

just the bold.
@gertvdijk Never happened to me I must say.

@Seth It's supposed to be a headline for the code block. Perfectly fine, in theory.

just not in practice...

12:30 AM
that --^

In practice, it feels out of place when it's pretty much the only sectionized part of the post. ;)
Or, like in this case, the only part of the post at all.

I try to be lenient on bold.. but sometimes it's like "Oww, my eyes hurt!"
q_q

Headlines with code in them are also bad. Bad bad bad. Baddie bad bad.

OT?

Q: kworker on my phone

MopishMold2575I read that it is used on the computer. It has been coming up on my Android Galaxy S2 it is on at least 3 times at once anf up to 7or 8 at once. they are called kworker/0:1 through kworker/0:4 and/or kworker/u:1 through kworker/u:4 occasionally it comes up as using 100 % of the cpu my phone also...

@Seth yes, Android.

1:05 AM
lol, they just forked the entire page - en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Star_Trek_into_Darkness
all to correct the title...

Yep.
That's the beauty of Wikipedia's edit machine.
Idiots running around headlessly until they finally come to a somewhat agreeable solution.
I still prefer Munroe's suggestion, though.

so how goes it @mateo_salta

good, how about you @AbrahamVanHelpsing
@AbrahamVanHelpsing does that mean that they are signing things for secure boot?

1:16 AM
mezzo mezzo. i'm sort of excited about some arduino gear i'm looking at. i just wish there were a local store that kept all this stuff in stock. i'm in chicago, there should be...maybe there is and i just don't know about it
@mateo_salta afaict - yes.
we should in the horribly near future have a "better" uefi boot question/answer

@FEichinger Running around without a keyboard or monitor attached?! :)

o/
Hello everyone - it's a bittersweet day for me. My two-month contract has come to an end.

@mateo_salta i don't have the gear to test it at home, but we have a uefi test laptop at work. maybe i can convince them to let me try it out next week. then someone can blog about how awesome canonical is

the tigerdirect warehouse isn't far from west chicago

@EliahKagan Nah. They use Speech-to-Text and Project Glass prototypes.

1:20 AM
@mateo_salta i saw that, but i doubted they would have embedded programming gear...could be wrong though

jrg
anyone have 30 seconds to review a pull request on our proforma comments? github.com/AskUbuntu/ProFormaComments/pulls

@jrg That should probably not be me, as I was involved in the proposed change.

@jrg: Uhm... there's still a spelling mistake in there.

jrg
@GeorgeEdison what's the spelling mistake?

> "...this seciton is..."

1:22 AM
@AbrahamVanHelpsing maybe just some of the boards I think tigerdirect.com/applications/SearchTools/… The cool thing about the Naperville location is they have most of the online stock in the back.

It should be "section".

jrg
(see, this is why i asked for another set of eyeballs)

@jrg Almost makes me want to use github. /s

jrg
@GeorgeEdison ok, i'll merge, and then submit another PR.

Gah!
Github is murdering my inbox.

1:23 AM

jrg
bwahahhaa.

seems legit, but i didn't check the links or how it actually displays. if seth says it works right for him, i believe it....also the git-diff is confused

jrg
eyeballs?
document your approval (or disapproval) by a :+1: or :-1: on the PR.

if you hadn't said that I probably wouldn't have figured it out :P

Looks good now.
+1???
I don't see any +1 button anywhere.

jrg
1:26 AM
type it in.

Didn't work.

@GeorgeEdison do you have something else lined up.

jrg
yeah.

1+?=?

jrg
worked @GeorgeEdison

1:26 AM
@mateo_salta Possibly. I am in contact with the HR department about another position.

@GeorgeEdison :(

@jrg Oh I see - I had to refresh the page.

try it out here:

Q: This is a test question to verify the pro forma EOL userscript. How do I test user-scripts?

AbrahamVanHelpsingIt doesn't need an answer...I'll delete it after userscript testing... The deal is, I have to extend the length to get passed a quality standard. So I'm rambling on here. Really, I promise I'm asking about an EOL release of Ubuntu. Gods of standard-making, please see fit to say "You may pas...

That is so un-intuitive.

If your talking about the whole +1 thing, I agree.
I'd have never figured that out.

1:28 AM
@AbrahamVanHelpsing Could've gone to meta for that, btw.

@FEichinger I'll delete it. and that's fair.

YEAH, finally a thumbs up.

@GeorgeEdison Someone found the blog post! :P

In Full Color

I thought that was funny.

1:31 AM
Whoah.

@AbrahamVanHelpsing The title should have been "How do I test user scripts on Ubuntu 9.10?" :)

All of those "+1"s totally spammed my inbox.

jrg
@GeorgeEdison welcome to github.

And again: ∎

1:31 AM
@GeorgeEdison Did you get an email when I edited my +1 to make it a :+1:?

@EliahKagan that is hilarious. touche good sir

@GeorgeEdison same here.

jrg
i've had over 200 emails from github since midnight last night.

@EliahKagan I don't think so.

I'm going to add a filter.

1:32 AM
@GeorgeEdison bet you're glad a lot of the nitroshare mac changes are done

@jrg Wha... that's just wrong.
You need to edit a setting somewhere.

jrg
@GeorgeEdison granted, i subscribed to rails/rails bugtracker, and several other large, active projects.

Don't use github, and suddenly you don't get a crapton of mai-- glares at inbox ... Well, yeh, screw that.

lol
ahhhh @FEichinger!

jrg
priceless @FEichinger

i'm printing that off and framing it.
i'm going to run out of wall space.

1:34 AM
good grief.

lol

jrg
hey, whomever wants to get the bounty from @JorgeCastro, basically document how to do this for 12.04 and you get the reputation.

I'm looking at it...

Oh shit. I just realized it's Feb already here ...

@FEichinger just checked my e-mail....

1:43 AM
@mateo_salta hm?

and there was a message from you.

Oh, right.
@mateo_salta ♥

@jrg I'm gonna try...

jrg
@Seth good luck.

1:47 AM
thanks, I'm afraid I'm going to need it lol
I like doing these things though, because I learn an awful lot.

jrg
that's how i got my first contracting gig.
i spent a week researching a few tags on AU, found a simple job, and did it.

Nice :)

2:31 AM
@Seth You still here?

just got back ;)

hey! bounty man hehe

eh?

Review this future answer, test if this really work (I don't have 12.04) and post as a new answer on the JC bounty!

I don't have 12.04 either :/

2:40 AM
Well, this also works with 12.10
Oh, no!

If I wanted to I might... but then I'd have to test my answer too :P

modify the 10.0 with 5.5 and done..
In such case you are reporting the official document it would be the better answer :)
Create the answer! and someone will upvote or.. evil comments will appear :O

@Lucio not exactly.

What? isn't that the official website?

@Lucio You want me to create the answer?

2:45 AM
Yeah! :P

@Lucio yeah it is. But other answers are always useful.
@Lucio Why?

agree
@Seth I am supporting your future candidacy :P

@Seth I see that you are a bit worry about bounty and rep..

I'm not worried about downvotes.
@Lucio But I'm not really sure I'm going to run for this election.

2:47 AM
@Seth no, no, that is not what I'm saying..

okay..

@Seth Well, this is a way to give you a little help :)

@AmithKK count that as the next feature on my website :P

@Lucio well, I have my answer, why don't you get yours in :)
I don't want to sound afraid of adding it under my name (it looks great)
But what about you?

2:51 AM
@Seth Uhh, I was going to create the Quantal one :(
jk

oh
hehe
@Lucio Your answer says "12.04 Quantal"
Quantal is 12.10

@Seth haha, I give you that. No worry..
@Seth Have you used PHP for more than 1 month?

@Lucio no, I haven't.
Why?

ironic

I guess...

2:54 AM
haha
I don't know if you remember when I ask you about what code you prefer..
..PHP code
about put long HTML sentences into echo statements and that

@Lucio I said I liked the second one.

yeah, yeah, that is not the point.. I found this:
wait a second..

oh, that's funny!
just what you wanted to know huh?

yep
@Seth And very useful!

I'm sure!
@Lucio Are you going to add your answer?

3:04 AM
sorry, I was distracted with HERODOC :)

lol :)
I couldn't have added another answer anyway.

yeah, I know..

I would have had to edit it into my answer. I guess that's what I you're supposed to do.
Now someone else can get some rep and the bounty!

@Seth Yes, but a wiki post is a quite different :)

yeah, I guess...

@AmithKK You really are the internet-man, isn't? :D

XD :P

interesting @AmithKK
I feel a little flaggy... bring on the queries!

@AmithKK not enough internet-connection-speed.. :(

Q: Referring to new features in the next version of Ubuntu

iBelieveIn this question, the person is unable to install a package. I believe this is due to the package only being available for the amd64 build of Ubuntu. However, according to Launchpad, it will be available for the 32 bit version as well in Ubuntu 13.04. I know questions about the next version of U...

@Lucio looks like it is installing , but all you needed was just the first "sudo add-apt" to run in terminal, or to add the sources in the list (with gksudo probally better than sudo on opening gedit) so the sources look like this :
deb http://ftp.osuosl.org/pub/mariadb/repo/10.0/ubuntu precise main
deb-src http://ftp.osuosl.org/pub/mariadb/repo/10.0/ubuntu precise main
oh, just missed him.

@Lucio Good Night

@mateo_salta Did you edit it?

yep, added changes from testing on my 12.04 machine
the first add-apt added the lines automatically, or you can edit them in without the "sudo apt-add" at the beginning.
just like the instruction on the website downloads.mariadb.org/mariadb/repositories ;)

awesome ;)

3:36 AM
now, what is this tool supposed to do now that I have it installed :) anything fun?

I honestly don't know hehe ;)
> MariaDB is a drop-in replacement for MySQL.
@mateo_salta So I guess if you knew MySQL it would be fun :)

hm, sql
I guess installing may be half the battle. There are pages on actually running it.

oh great :/

@vasa1: not really. If the questions were similar, closing as dupe may be an answer
you could probably also reference the answers to each other

This OP seems annoyed judging by the currently last comment here: askubuntu.com/q/249264/25656. Any help?

@vasa1 I don't even know what they refer to with "these kind of things"

@FEichinger, we'll just have to wait until a competent mind reader comes along ;)

@vasa1 Tbh, my answer would've been something along the lines of "Whoop Dee Doo, it's slow when it has to load much, NO S*** SHERLOCK!"
I have similar hardware and I'd be jumping around the room in joy if my nautilus got large lists down in 5 seconds.

@FEichinger, Can you imagine the response then? Screen shattering :)

12:11 PM
@vasa1 Which is why I'm not posting it.

Anyway, I've asked for the size of ls -R > recursive.txt. Let's see. After a while, if there's no response, it maybe a candidate for closure.

I don't ever seem to get why people feel entitled to free support ;p

Atlas Shrugged is a good brief read on the topic ;)

god. does anyone manage to finish a rand novel? ;p

I let my mind wander and just turn the pages. There's some good stuff in there but maybe could have been done even more effectively in 1/100 the length.

@Mochan I wonder if those settings are stored by dconf rather than gconf, in 12.10.

because right now, I've got a USB to HDMI to DVI to the display cable setup, and i'm not seeing anything happening. at. all.

ah okay, I included quantserv.com in the allowed javascript domains (migh thave lost that somewhere) and now I get a "less than 6 letters" message.
Thanks for the feedback.
Still somewhat of "not nice", because when a typo in a command keeps the example from working, but still is less than 6 letters for an edit; that would still be a good edit in my eyes. But that is a different issue.

that answer could do with a tidy - with the folderrs in back ticks etc - that will make it more of a substantial edit.

Yes, currently working on it. Just happy to at least have an error message now :-)

@gertvdijk Why would it be bad for a bounty question to become CW? The original author is still the only one who would get the bounty.
