3:00 PM
Haha.
Both are nice unless run into.

my wife saw a person running to catch a streetcar (Tram), who didn't notice another streetcar coming in the other direction, which passed right in front of him, and he ran right into the side of it.

yeah. But luckily he wasn't running just a bit faster, or the train would have hit HIM.

Wow. Very lucky.
@Mr.ShinyandNew安宇 Yeah it's € 544 here...
Ridiculous.
At least it isn't available in the Play Store here, so perhaps some people will buy it.
In Canada, it makes no sense at all.

@Cerberus It makes no sense to buy it outright. But $150 on contract is a good price.
You don't usually get better prices for bringing your own phone. So if the company offers you effectively $200 off, then why not take it.

3:15 PM
All I know is it should be different!

@Cerberus Hey, at least we have phone number portability now. Used to be you had to change phone numbers when you changed carriers.

Hahaha no way!

We got portability in 2007

Of course that had to be enforced by the government/EU here. But we have had that for as long as I can remember.

The US didn't have it much sooner than we did either
@Cerberus yeah it took a legal ruling here too.

3:20 PM
Consumer protection and anti-trust are important.
As Adam Smith would have agreed.

@KitFox I just noticed this message in my inbox Kit. Storing page content in the DB is fine. It's what just about every major site does. Wordpress blog posts are stored in a database of some kind. So are SE posts. The downside is that updating that content will require a custom tool instead of just a text editor.

I'm worried about connection speeds.
I have a meeting now though.

Jez
you really do got a lot of meetings

@Mr.ShinyandNew安宇 Kid's world problems. :-)

@KitFox Oh. Well, don't read it from the DB on every page load. Cache it in memory.
@MετάEd Yeah seriously :)

Jez
3:33 PM
man i hate this time of the afternoon. so tired as i digest lunch.

Wow. I had no idea Tumbleweeds were common. (Not here. Server Fault.SE.)

> the chair of [Toronto City] council’s parks and environment committee... has no problem with Toronto thinking about how to prepare for the potential consequences of global warming. He’s just doubtful that global warming is a thing.

Hi @Jez

Jez
hi

3:37 PM
how are you
@MattЭллен

@MετάEd it's practically de rigueur at SO
I'm fine, @Sudhir. Quite busy at work. How are you?

I am good
What you do at your work
?

I am a programmer

I mean which language

c# and python

3:39 PM
great!
So its programming of website
?

some of it, other parts are desktop apps
how is your job hunt going?

you use Notepadd++?

I use emacs

Still going
Oh

Jez
emacs? heh

3:40 PM
chin up! you'll find something

Jez
the only good thing about emacs is that it doesn't start off in non-insert mode

I use NP++

I used to use NP++, but I find emacs more interesting

what? no love for jedit or eclipse around here?

Jez
eclipse is rather horrible
i'll take monodevelop

3:42 PM
what's difference between Interface and Abstract class?
@MattЭллен

Interfaces are not classes

Interface defines behaviour, nothing more

One of my Interviewers asked

Jez
@MattЭллен don't answer his pre-interview homework for him

@Jez:don't worry
google is there to ans my all question

3:44 PM
@Jez I like eclipse. But maybe it isn't as good for non-java devs.

there are various differences, but they tend to be implementation detials and syntax details, rather than conceptual. An abscrtact class is a husk you build a full class out of. an interface is a mask that an object can wear.

You know Jquery?
For me its rocket science

yeah, to an extent

In Java, and also, I suspect, C#, an abstract class can have behaviour and variables, and a subclass can only extend one abstract class. An interface is like a special abstract class with only virtual methods, and you can subclass as many of these as you like.

@Mr.ShinyandNew安宇:You're programmer?
I seen your ans in SO
@MattЭллен

3:48 PM
you see my answers? Good, good :)

yes

@Sudhir yes, Java, Html, JS, CSS, etc. PL/SQL (ugh)

you're a great programmer

I'm alright, but thanks :)

Jez
PL/SQL, that's Oracle's one isn't it?

3:49 PM
@Jez yes
It's my most hated language

I think most of the users of this site are programmers?
@MattЭллен

I don't know. Most of the people in this chat room programme

@MattЭллен: Can you tell in UK what's the most preference for a graduate guy

sorry, I don't know. graduates are a very diverse bunch

3:52 PM
I think most want to go in IT sector
in UK
but nor Iam not sure
@MattЭллен:You use Skype

Q: When discussing non sequiturs, is a non sequitur made by a participant considered as a non sequitur?

ManishearthLet's take this conversation: Alice: What is a non sequitur? Bob: A non sequitur is something said that, because of its apparent lack of meaning relative to what preceded it, seems absurd to the point of being humorous or confusing1. In Latin, it means "does not follow". Alice: Oh, ...

there is an aspect of IT in all jobs these days, but I think most graduates will start in a non-IT position

Talk about a Jasper question.

@Robusto: Hi

Hullo.

3:55 PM
I am big fan of you
Hullo is a word?
that's amercian eng

@Robusto OP asked me about it. I was on the fence.

(Jasper's super hero name is Non Sequitor)

@Mr.ShinyandNew安宇 Yeah, still trying to think all that stuff through.
I liked Eclipse when I used it, back when I wrote Java.

@MattЭллен:What's full form of OP?

@Sudhir Opening Poster or Opening Post, depending on context

3:59 PM
@Sudhir Original Poster.

But what's does here mean?

Grey arrows highlight links.

ok

Which is why you should learn to use them.

4:01 PM
@MattЭллен:How gold is earned ?

@Sudhir mining?

@Sudhir Different pronunciation. Dialectical.

no
@Robusto:What's your name?
I mean original
@MattЭллен:how to write precis?

@Sudhir you write a summary of the text or speech you're interested in

What're the rules?

4:04 PM
I don't know. It's not something I've had to do, sorry

ok
thanks
You are so good
@MattЭллен

thanks.

@MattЭлленYou're on skype?

No. I'm not on skype

I want that I should learn Eng from you

4:07 PM
I'm not really a good teacher. you should find someone local to you

A native speaker of Eng can be as good than a non-native
Its dinner time here
10PM

that's bed time for me!

What's time

there?

4:09 PM

No flirting in this chat.

its too early

late enough for me :)

4:11 PM
ha ha
So what you eat in your dinner

A middle-tier developer just asked me to hack a form to give him a value. I feel violated.

@Robusto you should feel liberated. liberating that value from its html prison
or whereëver it was locked away

@MattЭллен?
So what you eat in your dinner?@MattЭллен

Pie and chips.

@Sudhir Settle down.

4:14 PM
@MattЭллен Watch out. Eventually it's going to be like CR asking for your "photography"

perhaps. that would be... hmm
undesirable

ok bye
guys
good night

have a good meal @Sudhir

still hungry
Thanks a lot @MattЭллен
:)
You didn't gave me your FB
link

@Sudhir Stop.

4:17 PM
That's because I am never going to give you my FB link. I thought you understood that from the other times I've refused?
2

yes

I can understand

Don't take it to heart. noöne here has my FB link

I just want to see you

4:18 PM
this is me

@Sudhir You're being creepy.

you're so good

I am a giant green head

Jez
(almost) no-one here wants your FB link

@Jez true :D

4:19 PM
ok

In general, we don't ask for personal information from other chatters. People volunteer what they are comfortable with.

Iam newbie to this site

Every time I log onto FB I find more people to unfriend.

@Sudhir I know. Newbies especially should observe unobtrusively.

@Robusto Wheat from the chaff.

4:21 PM
@Rob. looks cryptic

I just don't want to have "friends" like that. A friend is someone who will help you move. A real friend is someone who will help you move a body. A Facebook friend is someone who will find out where you moved the body and report you.

Jez
Today's "creationism is just another way of understanding evolution" platitude today was particularly bad... platitudes.org.uk

@Robusto And troll the shit out of you.

@Robusto Come on. A Facebook friend is someone who will click "like" on your post about moving the body.

@Robusto:Ha ha well said

4:23 PM
@Robusto how very true, i prune my list with regularity

But In my country FB is life for young guys

@Rob coughs, gestures Speaking of friends. And uh. Chatting. With friends.

they can't afford to live without it

@JohanLarsson But do you list your prunes to achieve regularity?

^too advanced English, ParseException in Sweden

4:25 PM
Bye guys
Its too late
Good night

@MattЭллен If you ever need it, mods can warn/kick/suspend people from chat

@simchona thanks :) I hope it never comes to that!

@MattЭллен Me too, but if it repeats (like it seems to) just let us know

ok, I'm on the move. Talk to y'all later

4:27 PM
CU!

@JohanLarsson Download the pun module for your parser.

I prefer the pun filter for my browser

headdesk

My fault?

@Rob I'm surreptitiously signaling you.

4:30 PM
@KitFox Can't get there from here.

Shit.
Can I assist?

Not convenient right now. Lotsa people here.

So noted. Thanks anyway.

4:50 PM
GTG

@Cerberus you're the specialist for this english.stackexchange.com/review/suggested-edits/19853
I don't know jack about Latin.
Gotta commute, lators!

5:37 PM
"Centripical". Thank you Faith Hill.

@RegDwighт I see Sim has already rejected the edit, and I sort of agree.
The original was not entirely right, but not entirely wrong either. The correction was too much.

6:36 PM
Hi

@Robusto Great!
Too bad I can't vote.
Then again, I'm glad I won't go to jail.

@Cerberus I think you can still sign a petition, though

But not one of those White House thingies, right?
I am more than willing to sign petitions.

@Cerberus You would have to lie about your Zip code

6:41 PM
The Zip code is not compulsory.
But it won't let me create an account.
It says my e-mail address has already been registered.

@Cerberus maybe you already have an account

But Lastpass says no, and neither of my common passwords is recognised.
Have you created an account?

OK, so my default page content retrieves fine, but the second page of content: nothing.

tears second page to pieces, eats some of them

Cerb! You're making a mess.

6:53 PM
wonders how many stomachs a three headed dog has, anyway

Sowwy.
I just have three heads, not three stomachs. I'm not a cow, for crying out loud.

cowdog!

cries out loud to the moon, or whatever one is supposed to do in this situation
@MattЭллен !
Cowface!

Faceface

defeated

6:57 PM
stands victorious like a tiny crab atop a sand dune

lies on back, sticks paws in the air, pretends to be dead
