why the fuck is discord out again

SOCK² 2.0 is working :D
It now only forwards traffic to sites that are actually blocked, and if it detects a site isn't blocked, it just forwards it to a socks proxy on the same machine (effectively removing the proxy entirely for that site)

@RadvylfPrograms Strange, my socks always work.
I just put them on

6:23 PM
@BgilMidol python

@SegFaultPlus4 no, it outputs nothing

@hyper-neutrino HN you have to let discord go, it went down forever a year ago
@BgilMidol julia

nope

6:39 PM
SOCK² can now almost load Reddit before the bandwidth gets throttled and everything explodes
Which is what I use as my test since...

A: Sandbox for Proposed Challenges

SegganRepeat List Until Longer code-golf The Challenge The challenge is simple: given an input list a and another list b, repeat a until it is longer than b. Call the repeated list ra. Then the following condition must hold true: len(b) < len(ra) <= len(b) + len(a). That is, a must not be repeated more...

Daniel, about the same age, I was asked to leave class for claiming that pi is not 22/7. The math teacher said that 3.14 is an approximation and while some people falsly believe that pi=3.14 but the true answer is 22/7. Years later an Israeli newspaper published a story about a person who can memorize the first 2000 digits of pi and the article contained the first 200 digits. A week later the newspaper published a correction: "Some of our readers pointed out that pi=22/7". Then the "corrected" (periodic) 200 digits were included. Memorizing digits of pi is a whole different matter if pi=22/7. — Gil Kalai May 11, 2010 at 5:45
Oh no

7:11 PM
o̅_o̅

Pi is now 22.7, didn't you hear?
The mathematicians got together and decided it'd make things so much easier

@RadvylfPrograms wth no
tau was bad enough

Yeah they decided just last month, different mathematicians had been using different pis, but we've standardized it now

> Tis' a favorite project of mine,
> A new value of pi to assign.
> I'd fix it at 3, for it's simpler you see,
> Than 3.14159.

7:18 PM
Can we please make pi a pie and not a number?

@mathcat It will be easier to memorize what pi is that way

@mathcat My office celebrates March 14th by bringing pies
I will be making a pie for the first time in my life this weekend

Okay golfers, time for a story about the Indiana Pi Bill.

@UnrelatedString lol, yeah, it's pretty weird

7:21 PM
@GingerIndustries Was he killed by Jon Skeet?

interesting coincidence, last time there was an outage was when i just finished rewriting my bot for a server

so the downtime actually let me turn off my bot and migrate the database without affecting anything
just last night i decided to stop my second rewrite because i am too busy and wasn't really motivated to do it anymore
and there's another outage today kekw

> not hosting your bot on a laptop

imagine not hosting your bot on a Rapsberry Pi

7:23 PM
i host the bot on myself
the bot is actually me just manually looking at every message myself

there's actually an ongoing joke in the server that i'm not a human but actually a robot lmao

if only they knew

there's an optimal compressor on the tips page and on hyper's jht site

7:45 PM
@UnrelatedString I just used ASCII stuff for Vyxal, 9 bytes - integer compression is kinda sussy anyway
@UnrelatedString Yeah, used that

jelly filters out non-sbcs characters in unicode mode

@emanresuA I'm going to go put this in Sandbox, one sec

there miiiiight be a shorter way to get 3232 than ⁽®ḃ but that is just three bytes already

@RadvylfPrograms Fun. I think the optimal example is one that takes a while to guess, but somebody does guess it and then everybody else goes "Ohh, yeah"
It's too easy to pick something obscure that no one will ever get.

29 bytes is just too restrictive for what I want to do :|

also that code formatting sucks wow

also i don't even get what this is supposed to be
why are there three addition operations

also the ide is hideous

Well I mean, according to OP it's JavaScript, so no compilation needed.

It's like when your dad removes the whole house's smoke detector batteries; no compiler, no compiler errors. Problem solved.

9:26 PM
it's not even valid JS, so more like hitting the smoke detectors with a hammer

@UnrelatedString did you mean: "def f():x='seven';\nprint('x=7')"?

Can we just talk about the tabs along the bottom (!) of this IDE? Practice with constants.java (yuck, spaces?!) and Sentinals.java (wat?)

9:28 PM
from a reddit post like a year ago; iirc it was some student's attempt at... just setting x to 7
@RadvylfPrograms are tabs on the bottom not normalish? but yeah those are horrid holy fuck

I need to find that image in my cache, one sec

@UnrelatedString did you mean: x = 7?

@GingerIndustries You need to do what now?

maybe we should contact op to find what school they're from so we can stage an intervention

We can like...rappel down from the ceiling with machine guns and katanas and forcibly take over the CS department

9:30 PM
@RadvylfPrograms we're the Richard Stallmen of code golf

it's probably a high school where the cs department is a single middle aged tennis coach

Yeah prolly but "rappel down from the ceiling and take Coach Johnson hostage" doesn't sound as good

yeah the spaces in .java file names is cursed
also if not for the taskbar this would look like it was screenshotted in like windows xp based on the ide lmao

come to think of it don't .java files have to have the same name as the class
how would that even work with spaces

9:38 PM
does anyone have that image

the image in that post
chrome's being a baka sus and won't let me view it

9:43 PM
ohoho

> This type of attack reflects traffic off vulnerable servers to victims, amplifying the amount of traffic sent in the process by an amplification factor of 220 billion percent in this specific case.
So the second most boring kind of CVE, but still something

@RadvylfPrograms ah yes, 220 billion percent is second most boring

Oh wow I'm getting 100 Mbps on school wifi over through my proxy (in unblocked mode, so not really proxying at all)
I have a bit of conspiracy theory that ISPs intentionally give higher priority to traffic to and from speed testing sites
Don't know if I'm just paranoid or if they really do
But it wouldn't surprise me
I have 539 starred messages
3

@RadvylfPrograms how do i find out how many i have?

Click "show all 31178", and click "starred by me".
There's 50 messages per page, except for the last one

9:53 PM
@RadvylfPrograms I have 1.

You'll have to count those by hand or use document.querySelector(".content").length

10:04 PM
@RadvylfPrograms Is the 539 the ones you've starred, or the ones you've posted and others have starred?

10:34 PM
@RadvylfPrograms Wrong

10:51 PM
@allxy How do you know?

See the message I replied to

@allxy Depends on the answer to my question, tho

Ones I've posted that've been starred
I've starred more than twice as many

It's usually three keystrokes for a ping, but yeah.
@, first letter, tab

Remembering back to some of my earlier messages reminds me of how there was a time where I'd insert a space after the colon that you see when replying to someone to indicate a reply but not ping them

i do sometimes wish there were a reply-without-ping feature much like discord's

11:32 PM
@DLosc How do you find your first messages?

@BgilMidol I didn't, exactly... I basically just read down my entire list of starred messages. :P There might be a way to do it, IDK.

@hyper-neutrino you can sorta do it by quoting with a permalink but that takes up waaaay more space

11:52 PM
