@Makyen This should be an easy fix. The regex on line 1672 in findspam.py needs to change to r"(?is)^\S{20,}\s*$"and the regex on line 1680 to r"(?is)^<p>\S+</p>\s*$". As you mentioned the issue is the current [0-9a-z] doesn't count anything other than letters and numbers as characters but \S should fix that as it is any non-whitespace character. I don't want to submit a PR but should I open an issue or you can review the change and possibly commit it if you have time?

@Xnero Yes, I already tested regexes very similar to those on MS shortly after the earlier conversation. It results in an increase in FP. I have not spent enough time to refine it beyond that to see if the increased FP can be eliminated and/or is site specific. Of significant note is that it will substantially increase FP on text which is a single code statement which isn't in code format. Unfortunately, such posts are fairly common.
I paused working on it, because I was intending to work on other things today.

@Makyen ah, that explains it. it might be useful to make that change since most posts with no whitespace arent useful

@Dragonrage Yes and no. I haven't investigated enough to resolve down to a good change. We don't want to be catching single statements like df.groupby('group_id')['A'].min() when they are not properly in code format. I agree that a change will likely be a good idea, but, unfortunately, we need to look at it in a bit more detail, rather than just make the easy change of actually looking for no whitespace.

[ SmokeDetector | MS ] Potentially bad keyword in answer (1): Cloudfront + Woocommerce - cart not updating ✏️ by Jammer on stackoverflow.com

@Xnero I had no problems with using the regex on MS.

@Makyen would it be possible to only enable on sites that are more text based? i could see that on something from SO or another programming site, but less so on non programming sites
just trying to offer suggestions to maybe help improve detection of posts like the ones i shared, but im pretty sure you all have thought about a lot of them and you all are probably quite busy
luckily the people who post those types of posts tend to make multiple of them and at least one is usually flagged by either community or smoke detector, and if the mods investigate the accounts other posts, its pretty easy to determine if they should be burnated or not

1:14 AM
@Dragonrage Yes, that's one of the possible solutions. However, my initial testing/searching on the data in MS indicated that just SO was slightly better wrt. %TP than the average over all sites when looking at posts with actually no whitespace in the body. Determining that was about where I paused in order to get back to doing other things. I left all of the tabs open, so I could get back to it later.
Side note: the data in MS tends to be significantly biased towards posts that are TP when compared to the actual body of posts on SE, so there are probably a significant quantity of FP which were never reported for other detections. In other words, I expect the true rate of FP to be substantially higher than what is seen when searching MS.
@Dragonrage It's appreciated. More than one person thinking about what might work helps come up with more ideas.
@Dragonrage True, although we do want to detect them. :)

yep, im appreciative of all the work you folks do. hopefully my ideas can help at least somewhat :)

They do. Thanks.

@Xnero I see about three dozen but several of those are dubious and should probably be removed; for the older ones the images are probably also removed

@tripleee I can take a look but I can't request unwatch commands. Should I just ping you with the watches that need removing?

@tripleee All the specific image-targetted imgur watches can be removed (by that I mean all watches with imgur except 1531718708, 1543337438, 1571342466, 1576675005 which are just general watches).

None of the current watched images are being used consistently even though most/all of them are still up and it was just a one-off image. I am confident that the ones watched recently will follow the same pattern and not be used again. Perhaps we should update the watch guidelines to say that we don't watch images too.
