IMDB’s description: Armed with only one word, Tenet, and fighting for the survival of the entire world, a Protagonist journeys through a twilight world of international espionage on a mission that will unfold in something beyond real time. First and foremost, Tenet is a spy thriller, with a scifi / time travel? element intermixed. The ... Read more

Q: How many students attended Hogwarts?

NerdOfLinuxWhile re-listening to Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban (audiobook), I noticed that after Sirius tried to get into the Gryffindor common room, and everyone goes to the Great Hall, Dumbledore only creates hundreds of sleeping bags, implying less than 1000 students. Is there any way to know ...

Q: Looking for a scifi short story i read in high school

AmandaI remember the basic ot of it. A family encounters an extraterrestrial being in need if help but the father of the family is afraid of it and end up shooting it. The being was sent as a test for humans to see if they could be trusted. The aliens say they have lost their chance to live forever amo...

Q: Trilogy from 1990/2000's with men and women sword fighters

Wendy JonesTrying to find a trilogy from 1990/2000's with men and women sword fighters. The swords had some special souls in them. At the end the man loses his sword's power while the woman is giving birth. I have looked everywhere and can not find it. I think the women was from the north and the man ...

Q: Very old sci-fi story about company who makes dream recordings, investigates bootleg/illegal "dirty" (pornographic) dream discs?

Helbent IVPlot Summary/Details Another of my patented "longshot" questions, I fear. I remember very little of the story, other than the basic premise. It's set on Earth in the near-ish future. A small, reputable company makes dream recordings that people can buy and experience. The dreams are done by th...

Q: SF short story where vastly superior alien civiliazation's fleet surrenders to the shocked Earth top brass

PopDivIt's a story where a vastly superior alien civilization "invades" United Earth space and instead of attacking, they surrender; much to the surprise of the assembled Earth military and dignitaries who were expecting total war or annihilation. This is what I remember from the story: A meeting takes...

Q: Do the sandworms know why humans are on Dune?

Nu'DaqRecently I've re-watched David Lynch's Dune, and particularly the sandworm attacking a spice harvester has made me wonder something, as strange as it might sound- do the sandworms see humans as pests or intruders in their territory, or are they aware that humans are there to extract the spice and...

Q: Who exactly is Sam here?

T. J DanielsIn Underwater (2020), Price discovers that only two of the pods are functional. Price and Haversham manage to get the ailing Smith into a pod, and Price persuades Haversham to take the last one: Norah: Do you know what I would do for one more second? Just one more second with Sam? Anything. Anyt...

Q: Is Cthulhu the being that chases Rick & Morty in the opening sequence?

BardoIn every opening sequence so far on Rick & Morty, no matter the season, we see at the end a scene where they flee in their spaceship from a Cthulhu-like creature, while Summer is holding which seems to be a spawn of the creature. Can we state if this creature is, in fact, Cthulhu? Is there enough...

It's meta.
Also, editing out that final paragraph made it unclear what most of the comments are about. I was about to delete them assuming the OP had already made the spoilery edits.

Ah of course, didn't even think about it for that word
The comments came after my edit, I was going to write a different comment to point that out but it would have been odd with both comments
@Randal'Thor True but the amount of times it's linked you'f think it'd be at more by now

Q: Season of Storms: What causes the tremendous storm (tsunami)?

eyesplice17Near the end, we are at the wedding reception on the terrace when the rats come. Coral warns: A tremendous storm. The rats can sense it. And I can too. But in the chapter I don't see anything about why it occurred. It doesn't seem related to Nor was it the vengeful fox-lady. A friend suggeste...

Q: Why is Lucius Malfoy's Wand so Long?

SkoobaIt is stated in various places that Lucius Malfoy's wand is 18" in length. This seems to exceedingly long as Ollivander states: In my experience, longer wands might suit taller wizards, but they tend to be drawn to bigger personalities, and those of a more spacious and dramatic style of magic. M...

We now have 6474 Harry Potter questions and 5955 Star Wars questions. Do you suppose Star Wars will ever overtake Harry Potter? Just the 2021 movie won't be enough for that, but Disney will keep making more movies after that, so it might come.

The storm really has enough significance as a fitting ending to a city that was basically drowning in its own decadence (and said to be bound to earlier), even when, if not even because of, not having a reasonable explanation.

Q: What percent of films with scientists have them as protagonists with the antagonist as non-scientists?

user14094230I don't know if these kind of questions are allowed. I'm concerned with the scenario that both antagonist and protagonist are of human level intelligence. I don't mean films where the antagonist is a beast or something. I think I read in the book Denialism that scientists are portrayed as antagon...

Q: What should we do with old meta posts about SE workings that no longer exist?

Rand al'ThorOccasionally, browsing through old meta posts on SFF, I come across questions about parts of the SE system that no longer exist or no longer function in the way described in those questions. LWCDuring Avengers: Age of Ultron Ulysses Klaue has the following conversation with Wanda: Wanda: Everybody's afraid of something. Ulysses Klaue: Cuttlefish! Q: Did Thanos play a part in creating Ultron?

user14094230I don't think it was ever clearly explained how Ultron came to be in Avengers: Age of Ultron, Stark and Banner were dumbfounded. I was thinking there would be a reveal that it wasn't actually Tony Stark's fault (to redeem him somewhat, but maybe it will come now after his death, to redeem his leg...

It looks like The Force Awakens brought a lot of new Star Wars questions, and after that, Rogue One and The Last Jedi brought more. This let Star Wars overtake Harry Potter after Rogue One.

I was here, asking questions about Rogue One. How come I didn't notice this at the time? Was there a celebratory meta post? I looked at meta but a quick search didn't find one.
I should try to make a better infographics and make a meta post after the fact at least.
Also it looks like Solo didn't even make a blip.
Ok, it did make a little blip. But much less than the other films.
On the plus side, the Fantastic Beasts film didn't make much of a visible dent either.

Q: Anime about seven swords

Q: How does one travel across Death Star

TimSparrowHow does a human (humanoid) travel across the Death Star, which is way bigger than any of the Imperial Navy Vessels (Death Star I was 120km in diameter, DS2 was even larger - 200km). Q: Who are the main characters of "Study in Emerald"?

YasskierNeil Gaiman calls his Study in Emarald a Lovecraft/Sherlock Holmes fanfiction. And indeed it is exactly that: it uses the narration and story structure pretty characteristic to one from Arthur Conan Doyle's stories about the famous detective. The difference is in the background: in this story, th...
