The Workplace is the clear winner here with 364 views per hour, having almost double the number of views of the run...

You'll get there, eventually. I think one thing that's working against you is that on the sites I've seen you run, there's other people that would be just as good a moderator, and they are more visible/older.

I never see your name on a 200+ TWP HNQ answer, for example...

To me that's a good thing btw :P But it's going to work against you in elections, I think.

It seems like this network expects a very specific trajectory when you're trying to help. I noticed this on SO too when I was still doing stuff here. It's expected that any and all curation is done on top of being very active in the Q/A itself, so when you're not, the culture kind of works against you there

In the end, it's not a big deal. There are many other people who can and want to help, no single person is needed here. But it's also made me realise that this isn't really the place for me to apply my interests and abilities to help

You can still help. There's a reason moderators are only supposed to be exception handlers ;)

Yeah, I've always found that part to be kind of counter-intuitive. Let's take our most active members, give them more power, but then expect them to only handle the exceptions.

The whole serial voting and post fraud thing for instance or tracking & finding troll and abuse patterns, none of that is really possible without a diamond

Normal reviews don't really interest me after like 7 thousand of them anymore

This will widely vary on the stack... On IPS here's what I think works best:

1. Hang out in chat. Many of our most dedicated users use it on a regular basis. It helps in building a trustful relationship and know better the person behind the mod.
2. Engage in meta Q&As. That testifies of your commitment to the site.
3. Leave comments on how to improve the posts, link to the relevant stack or SE-wide policies, offer your help if you think the user's struggling to understand the specificities you're mentioning.

I wrote that document for yaakov a while ago too, haven't heard anything back from it, probably time constraints

there's a time where I have to accept that SE is just not that interested in my ideas, and that's ok

the second sentence is more in general, the software is designed in a way that kind of makes it hard to do the kind of cleanup work I would find fun and challenging, that is reserved for moderators

Of course doing community moderation is very important too

sure, but that isn't really the interesting or fun part

after a thousand CV reviews you have a good enough idea of what is and isn't close material that you don't really find anything interesting or new in there

finding a voting ring or a sockpuppet ring is exciting and challenging and requires lots of problem solving, but it's not really something a user can do. I tried. I really tried.

You're right, it's incredibly hard to find as a regular user. It's usually already hard as a mod.

even finding serial voting is only really possible via exploiting a security flaw in SEDE

on a positive note less time spent on SE means more time spent on video games and books

That's... kinda suck-ish. I was asking because I heard the same from a co-worker that spent a few weeks on work from home, but has been at the office for the last 3/4 workdays because of trouble at home.

They said that the empty office was probably more eery and making you feel lonely than being in a room at home.
