Hello everybody. Don't know if this is the right place. We've been having some strange spam attacks on TWP. With topics like poop, who has best hair in TWP, framing coworkers, etc. What can we do besides handling it organically and flagging for mod/spam?

[ SmokeDetector | MS ] Few unique characters in body, no whitespace in body, no whitespace in title (255): asdfasdfasfasdfasdfasdfasdfasdfasdf ✏️ by SwantE- on math.SE

tp- feedback received

@DarkCygnus Oh, you're running for mod. good luck
As to how to get these in Charcoal... that's a bit harder. We could watch for "poop" I suppose, but there are legit reasons to use that (and it's not like "shit", which is watched)
I assume this is a different user every time as well

9:21 PM
Since last week, or earlier, those topics repeat themselves. How to poop on floor, how to frame others, some mentions to users, etc.
Each time, what I suppose is happening, this person creates new users, usually related to the theme of their post
and proceed to spam

Yeah, we've seen that before

[ SmokeDetector | MS ] Potentially bad keyword in answer (1): Self-signed SSL certificate in Laragon by Charles Norton on stackoverflow.com

@Machavity Well... :) thanks for the feedback. I'll keep a watch on more of those posts
Hope this does not escalate

@DarkCygnus If there are patterns in what they are posting, then we can watch for such patterns. Without actually being able to see the posts (I don't have >10k on TWP), it's hard to comment as to there being a pattern.

@Makyen I can assure you there is a pattern. We are currently discussing this on The Watercooler
Is there anything I can provide you with to help with finding these patterns?

9:26 PM
@DarkCygnus We'd probably need at least screenshots of a few/several posts in order to look for common features.

Ok... should I share them here?

Can you make a gist? Or pastebin?

Okey
I'll post it here when I got it, as I'm just coming back from lunch break
Thanks for the help guys :D

@DarkCygnus Sure, although a gist might be better. In addition, if there are non-deleted posts (e.g. new posts) which are examples, then those can be !!/reported, or !!/scaned, to/by SmokeDetector directly.

I am not that familiar with the Smoke Detector, but will read about it's usage after I give you the gist
will using that !!/reported help to train for these patterns?

9:33 PM
@DarkCygnus The commands are actually !!/report and/or !!/scan. The code formatting of only that portion doesn't appear all that clear within my message.

@DarkCygnus Note: !!/scan is a command which is available to everyone. !!/report is only available if you have SmokeDetector (SD) privileges. You're welcome to SD privileges, if you want them. Giving them to you is a bit easier if you first create an account on Metasmoke.

Thanks, I will surely consider it :)
Heh... seems you went on strike recently huh? Interesting...

Surely not filtering spam has more impact than writing rantish posts or changing your username... interesting non-violent resistance/strike

@DarkCygnus We were going to go on strike, but it was called-off/delayed in response to The company’s commitment to rebuilding the relationship with you, our community. It's mostly in a wait and see mode.
@DarkCygnus I've updated one of our regexes which is intended to catch some types of offensive content to include various permutations of "poop" with manager/boss/CEO/CTO as targets/associated words.
