Short version: before, we had a probably bad movie with a terrible design. Now we have a probably bad movie with a decent design.

Obviously, IMHO.

To me, the design was just one problem.

The fact that the movie smells "Smurfs" is another.

("In my world people keep trying to steal my powers so I came to yours".... REALLY??? WHO??? In this movie, Eggman as a villain didn't even exist before Sonic traveled to our world)

Having a bad movie adaptation is sad, but usual business. But the original abomination was beyond any line.

tried to put the shame on the animation company but guess what... that company also worked on most of the 3d Sonic games. They know how Sonic is supposed to look like so it is clear that someone forced them to do that bad design.
And... I think they got their personal revenge.
the animation studio is Marza Animation Planet - they worked on multiple Sonic games... with pretty decent quality.
also, it is indicative that they have worked on Sonic Forces, a game that directly references the Sanic meme.

As I said, I somehow suspect that the similarities were deliberate.

It does feel like the animation studio was pretty angry to have to do that... thing (and be the one who would take the blame for it) and decided to took revenge.

I could easily understand nobody daring to speak up against it once it's done, but the animators wouldn't have created it in the first place.

The only reason to "love" the old design is because of the meme potential

that thing was uncanny at best.

Don't know, I can't extrapolate to the thought processes of a corporation. Wasn't the original too well done in its crappiness to be a decoy? (I know, that's what they'd want me to think :P)

Petty revenge from frustrated animators sounds way more likely to me. Plus if it's a ruse then there are so many people in on it, that there's huge risk of someone spoiling it
