Q: Convert a Hex value string to an ASCII Text String

pacmaninbwWe had a little bit of fun in the 2nd Monitor this morning, one user greeted another with a hex string. It turned out that the user being greeted deals with Hex Dumps enough that they were able to read the string, but I wasn't so I created this converter. What could I have done to reduce the dep...

Oh yeah
Blazing
Around here we call it "the speed of the city government" which is effectively "mostly brakes".

3:42 PM
Eventually!
@DerKommissar Meh, I think that will work.
It's PHP so it's probably as good as it'll get

@pacmaninbw obviously Joseph seemed to think it was okay and I can presume that newFilterArr is an array because of the name and array methods are called on it... but it does seem like more context of how the function/method is used would help

I've been keeping a distant eye on CR and meta, while remaining in our Rubberducking dev chat, and monitoring vba posts on both Code Review and Stack Overflow. Seeing rolfl's resignation and the bleeding of several SE ...

@Feeds oh hai!

That took a while...

@DerKommissar is Captain Obvious also feeds?

3:55 PM
yep

@pacmaninbw Yeah, there are two "feed" users we primarily use.
"Feeds" is anything on codereview.meta, whereas "Captain Obvious" is the main Code Review.
We have a few others that do postings once-or-twice a week.

@MathieuGuindon Do you sometimes have a user name "RubberDuck"?

No that's a different person

nope, I only have 1 SE account

Mat used to be named "Mat's Mug" though
Then he ALT+F4'd his mod account

3:58 PM
I remember "Mat's Mug"

<~ mug's Mat

Didn't realize you were a moderator.

@pacmaninbw RubberDuck helped seed the tag in 2014-2015, and eventually we started the Rubberduck OSS project together, and then he left the project (although he still participates in discussions once in a while)
@pacmaninbw I was elected in 2015, and stepped down in 2018, shortly after Microsoft MVP Summit
(was awarded Microsoft MVP 2018-01-01)

@MathieuGuindon You should come out to meet up sometime, Rubberduck doesn't live far from me...

@MathieuGuindon I can see where that might have made you a little busy.

4:04 PM
@DerKommissar I'm in the Montreal area, but would be very happy to meet IRL!

@DerKommissar Somehow I thought Rubberduck lived in Canada?

That's Mat and @rolfl

(and 200_success)

@MathieuGuindon You're only 9 hours from Detroit, I'm an hour south and he's 3.
@MathieuGuindon Oh yeah

@MathieuGuindon Not adding success to that?

4:06 PM
hehe

so anyway, it turns out MVP activities aren't too exhausting (didn't expect to get renewed last July), Rubberduck is becoming a rather mature (although gigantic) code base, and I figure I could swap some SO activity for CR moderating, and everything should be fine

@MathieuGuindon Actually, Rolf isn't far either, could meet up with all four.

Monking all

hey @Mast

@DerKommissar 'only' o
If focussing on CR hurts a Microsoft MVP, Microsoft doesn't have its shit together...

lol agreed! what I mean is, I'll likely not have the same pace here... on SO I've consistently been ranking #1 in the VBA tag's "past 30 days" for ...for as long as I remember (and climbed up to #3 in the all-time ranking).. MVP renewal demands that we submit all "community activities" - 400-and-some SO answers does weight in, IDK how much weight fewer CR answers might have (it's less exposure, I guess)
OTOH I still contribute to Rubberduck, so there's that
plus, moderating a technical community is a positive thing

so, I'm not really worried - but if reducing SO activity in favor of CR ends up costing me an MVP renewal, then so be it

4:53 PM
Good Mug
And should you ever tire of it, just call for elections. If you can help us stay afloat till the storm blows over (if it ever does), that's already quite something.

Q: Bulk Uploads Files From Folder To Tables In Postgresql Database

Jacob SpitzerIt takes a long time to run. I think the loops are causing it to be inefficient _________________________________________________________________________________#python def addFilesToDatabase(directory): uploadedFiles = [] errorFiles = [] rows_to_chunk_by = 1000 for filename in os.listdir(...

@CaptainObvious is #python really a comment, or an attempt at giving a (not needed) hint to syntax highlighting?

@MathieuGuindon Failed attempt at shebang perhaps?

thinking the intent was to make that ```python
...but the tag makes that unnecessary
is pd some kind of magic global-scope thing in python like os seems to be? thinking it would be helpful to have the "includes" here
