@EliahKagan thanks! XD
@EliahKagan I voted... Hope OP will respond if it doesn't work for them

[ SmokeDetector | MS ] Link at end of body, potentially bad asn for hostname in body (100): Where To Read BuzRush News & Current Trends? by Buz Rush on askubuntu.com

Not really a duplicate (see comments).
This answer needlessly urges readers to erase their hard disks. But it won't be confused with something that doesn't urge that -- i.e., it won't cause unexpected data loss -- and although it's wrong, it links to and quotes from a potentially useful and relevant source of information that might lead to actual reasonable solutions for the OP's problem or at least related problems.
I've downvoted it (and commented on it), but my inclination is not to vote to delete it. I'm mentioning it here in case there's a reason to delete it that I haven't noticed (it does have a delete vote), but not to urge people to delete it.
Is this an answer?
I guess this could get an answer that's basically vidarlo's comment but I think that might be stretching it and the better course is to close it as OT > not about Ubuntu.
I think this is no repro.
I think this question should get a (maybe CW) answer showing what the OP did, rather than being closed as no repro.

OT (I've commented in case it's somehow related to Ubuntu in an unspecified way.)

This isn't no repro. I agree with reopening it to close it as a duplicate. (cc @karel since you had proposed the duplicate originally.)
Is this answer valid? Both the PPAs seem to have almost no up to date packages for Bionic. How is this supposed to work?
09:58
@pomsky Maybe comment?
As you say, I don't think it will work. For 18.04 LTS, the GNOME3 Staging PPA only packages fonts-cantarell and the GNOME3 PPA only packages gnome-photos. If for some reason you don't want to post a comment, I can do so.
@EliahKagan I don't mind leaving a comment, just wanted to make sure I'm not missing anything obvious. The answer sounds quite 'authoritative to me.
@EliahKagan It would be better if you could leave a comment instead
Thanks in advance! :)
@EliahKagan VTR and I will also track this question to close it as a duplicate afterwards.
@pomsky Maybe something like that worked at some point in time for some release of Ubuntu (or appeared to? I don't know. If the procedure it recommends is somehow useful for 18.04, then the answer should explain why, given the PPA's package list. But I'm pretty sure it's just wrong.
@pomsky No problem. I'll go ahead and comment along the lines of my chat message here (with the Launchpad links). Update: Done. Do you think my comment is sufficiently clear?
@karel Thanks!
@EliahKagan Perhaps also better to mention something like "and thus the answer won't do anything useful"
as a warning to other users who might be tempted to try the solution
Edited.
Regarding that (same) post, I'm unsure if I should vote to delete it. Arguably, it's intended as an answer to a different question about a different release (or something), so deletion might be reasonable. Anyway, if anybody has thoughts to share about that I'm interested, but I'll hold off on casting a delete vote until I'm less conflicted.
10:13
@EliahKagan I'm also holding back my VTD and waiting for a reply from the answerer. Although I have a feeling there won't be any.
I'll vote to delete after a day or so if there is no response.
Makes sense.
Note that I'm not saying merely wrong answers should be deleted, but this one does seem like it's intended to address a different situation than the on the OP described. Maybe that's a stretch though (which is why I'm holding off as well).
@EliahKagan I'm not sure whether right now it applies to other releases either. Both the PPAs have an EoL notice under description. It says "This PPA is no longer updated for releases older than Ubuntu 18.04 LTS" and asks to purge the PPA from an older release. There doesn't seem to be any packages for a supported newer release either.

@Natty tp
@EliahKagan The user who reviewed this late answer was pinged by Byte in General Room regarding his actions. If not flagged, they might have considered editing that. I think they need to be pinged again. (Link: askubuntu.com/review/late-answers/965141)
Oh, I hadn't even noticed it had a wrong "no action needed" review. Yeah, even if the reviewer thought it was correct, they should still have fixed the formatting.
@Zanna Good call on editing it before the reclosure (in this window of time where the edit won't confuse anybody). Thanks!
:) I do my best! :D
@Natty tp
+2 for seperate to separate? (See: askubuntu.com/users/976291/…)
@Kulfy I'd say that's fine, so long as the edits would otherwise be reasonable. On the other hand, if you find one one a post where there's other stuff that's more important, clearly needs editing, but isn't touched, then I'd Reject and Edit.
That's more my opinion and not an actual statement of existing policy. You could ask on meta.
For new users, I usually prefer "Improve Edit" since they would get reputation to get some basic privileges like commenting, upvoting.
12:08
Oh, if it's reasonable for the user to be credited for the edit then definitely use Improve Edit, yes.
@EliahKagan I feel it is part of a vibe I have got in AUGR for some months where people talk negatively about downvoting, and positively about reputation and upvotes. I dislike this vibe
Well upvoting is super important. Idk about rep though.
Like, I have definitely occasionally held off on downvoting something because I was low on votes for the day and there were other posts I wanted to upvote.
@EliahKagan Following a 7 year old post??
@Kulfy I'm not sure how much that has to do with it. Old questions are important too and can be answered. But I'm not trying to oppose deleting that answer, which is totally wrong and probably not very helpful, just explaining why I didn't vote to do so. (If I were sure it shouldn't be deleted, I wouldn't have bothered mentioning it here.)
12:33
@EliahKagan yes yes, upvoting is super important. But asking for upvotes on own posts etc is something I don't like
@Zanna I see what you mean. I guess asking for downvotes on one's own posts feels less self-aggrandizing. :)
hahaha
@Zanna That reminds me. I hope it's okay I put that as a comment instead of an edit. I'd really rather not bump that.
haha downvote provided
13:04
Thanks!
I would say "tell your friends" but if that's the first post of mine they see...
hahaha
I my defense, I think the worst meta post ever is statistically more likely to have been written by me than anyone else.
@EliahKagan I don't think it's the worst ever meta post... maybe it's a personal worst, so to speak
I strenuously hope it is a personal worst. I am definitely not thinking of any worse meta posts, by anybody, that aren't deleted. That's doesn't guarantee there aren't any, of course. But I think I've read a fairly high percentage of what's on meta.
This doesn't attempt to answer the question that was actually asked.
13:28
@EliahKagan has not been doing anything for some time. Thanks for asking! It has been on my mind in the last week or so to wake it up. I was trying to remove the tag. I will try to do that. Then I will try to work on the query
I was wondering if it would be useful to have a chat bot in this room that posts links to AU or Trello when questions and answers mentioned on that project's Trello cards have their Trello or AU links posted in here, respectively. (Subject to rate-limiting, of course--such a hypothetical bot shouldn't post the same link over and over, for example.)
This idea shouldn't be confused with an offer to write such a bot, since I don't know how to write an SE chat bot. But I'm still curious.
14:08
@EliahKagan that would be awesome!
@EliahKagan maybe I could give myself the project of doing that haha
I have no idea how to write a chat bot. But I can ask some people and look at some code
@Zanna Please let me know how it goes!
14:24
@EliahKagan :) thanks for the idea and encouragement. I hope I will find time to at least give it a go
14:42
@EliahKagan Sorry for jumping in between (cc @Zanna). By 7 year old post, I meant the article on Toms Hardware was written in 2012.
@Kulfy never a problem :)
What versions of Windows did the article apply to?
May be XP?
@Zanna :)
If it was only XP then I do think that diminishes the value of the answer. If it applied to Windows 7 or later then it's probably still quite relevant though.
Did Linux use HFS partition some years back?
14:51
Never as a default. HFS and HFS+ are only the defaults on macOS and its antecedents. There's some support for them in Linux though.
"Reading along, Linux creates an HFS partition that is not seen by WinXP" on that 7 year old article. IMO the answer has no significance if we consider today's market share of XP
@karel VTC'd.
@Kulfy Was that supposed to be from the linked Microsoft Knowledge Base article? That article is no longer up, but it's archived here and doesn't mention HFS. Odd.
(For others reading this: this is regarding a Tom's Hardware post linked in a wrong answer that should possibly(?) be deleted. The first message in this room about it, I think, is there.)
@EliahKagan And an "Honorable" user mentioned that.
Yeah, that's the post.
Well, I don't know what the article said at the time they read it, or if that KB article was what they meant to say they said. I had expected the article might've mentioned ext2, ext3, or ext4 and the forum user typed HFS instead (maybe having recently worked with HFS or something, that's a mistake anyone could make) but it doesn't mention any of those either

MS hates Linux (Thursday Throwback)
@Natty tp
@Natty tp
@pomsky It'll appear in reopen queue soon. OP edited their post.
16:10
@EliahKagan OP deleted it by themselves anyway
This is a weird question. Technically it's an alright question, but it includes an answer in the question which may be more useful if posted as a proper Q&A.
@Kulfy Also it has an NAA
16:55
@pomsky Blames Ubuntu Wiki. By End of Life they meant ESM.
17:07
Seems like no-repro. Reboot has solved the problem !
This looks like a dupe of this which in turn flagged as a dupe of this. Is getting ADB access and rooting same? PS: I'm n00b in Android development
17:56
Doesn't look like an exact duplicate IMO they are just related
