[ SmokeDetector | MS ] Manually reported answer (94): What search engine does Stack Exchange use? by Mohit Kumar Yadav on meta.SE

1:08 AM
@SmokeDetector Plagiarized from multiple possible sources, but the original appears to be the Stack Overflow Wikipedia entry.

@Makyen I also think that maybe the person misunderstood the question.
The question, if I am understanding it correctly, is about what the search engine used on the site is.
He might be thinking that the question is asking something else.

@Mr.YouKnowWhoIAm Perhaps, but that doesn't justify plagiarism. In addition, they have linked to the same site in their most recent answer on SO. Their other two answers on SO link to a different site, but one that sounds like it would fit in with those we commonly see as spam.

My guess is that he thought that the question asked is somehow referring to search engines like Google, Yahoo, Bing, etc. and the main cause of traffic to Stack Exchange sites. (I think my guess is wrong, but that is the best I could come up with.)

[ SmokeDetector | MS ] Few unique characters in answer, repeating characters in answer (169): successive sequence terms 2m - 8, 2m + 4 and 5m - 2 by user679488 on math.SE (@FrenzyLi)

@SmokeDetector This is a true positive. I quote "no!!!!..."

@SmokeDetector While this might be in a format we would want to block, "no" is a potentially valid answer to the first question asked. However, it does not cover the additional portions of the question.

@Makyen But it shows no proof. Now I would call it NAA.
@Makyen Also, the answer "no!!!..." is very generic.
It could mean anything.
@Makyen For example, the "no!!!..." could actually mean "Noooo!!! I hate math!" or "Noooo!!! Why did this have to be so hard?"
@Makyen Also, why would you need so many (according to metasmoke, 196) "!"s?

@Mr.YouKnowWhoIAm I certainly wouldn't call it a good answer. However, I'm more inclined to leave it up to the site's users to handle than for us to get involved. I agree that "no" is quite generic, but it is generally considered an answer, if the question allows for it as an answer. Personally, I consider the problem to be more the question. I may be missing some specific definition of "successive sequence", but I don't see anything that would disqualify any sequence from being valid.

1:43 AM
@Makyen None of us are math experts, are we?
Are you?
Probably not, since you cannot define "successive sequence".

@Mr.YouKnowWhoIAm I wouldn't consider myself an expert, but I am reasonably familiar with math.

@Makyen I could say the same: I am reasonably familiar. (Can somebody put more emphasis on "reasonably", bold and italics isn't enough?)

@SmokeDetector thanks - probably shouldn’t have ALL CAPS that, tbh

@Brandon_J While I do not know where that was quoted from, yes, that is very true. :D

Yeah looks like he had 12k rep when he was suspended
the last upvote he got was on May 25th

Then, he does some dumb thing.
Finally, he gets suspended and he's stuck at 1 rep.

@Brandon_J Yeah, and also, the rep lost after that was because of an unupvote due to a user removed.

2:26 AM
@bmike Thanks for telling us. Sorry for the mixup with the watch/PR.

15 mins ago, by Mr.YouKnowWhoIAm
Is there an explanation for this?
@Brandon_J Why would a user do this to himself?
A user with plenty of reputation
who makes one serious mistake
who ends up becoming suspended for unknown reasons.
Why? Why???
I am actually asking, whoever is in this room with me, why?

@Mr.YouKnowWhoIAm We don't know. The reasons for a suspension are always private between the user and moderators. The only way such are know are either by the user saying why they were suspended, or based on what was seen by other users of that user's public conduct prior to the suspension. The only information we have is the minimal note that they were suspended to cool down.

@Makyen Why would the user create such a post in the first place?
@Makyen Are you there?

2:55 AM
@Mr.YouKnowWhoIAm If you mean why they would have created this MS post, they did so as a vandalism of their post, which, prior to the edit, was a valid question. Users usually do that because they want to delete the content, but their post does not qualify for the system to permit the user to delete it. Alternately, because they don't know how to delete it, most commonly because the delete button exists only in the webpage version not in the app.
@Mr.YouKnowWhoIAm I stepped away for a bit.

@Mr.YouKnowWhoIAm Yes, the preview does not render that correctly.
The preview renders it as it is in the HTML which metasmoke receives, but that HTML has already been processed by SmokeDetector. The processing that SmokeDetector does to the HTML makes it impossible to accurately recover the original HTML in some cases. However, in the specific case of that post it can be recovered such that it displays correctly.
