In A Memory Called Empire, citizens of Teixcalaan have names that are a number followed by a noun. Ordinary names are things like Three Seagrass and Twelve Azaleas. There's a guy named Nine Helicopter and everyone thinks that's pretty funny.

(The names aren't like impersonal "number-word" labels, they're chosen carefully for poetic meaning.)

but seriously, muntins are like my least favorite architectural feature, simply because of how bloody useless they are in this day and age

in fact, I could make a legit argument that muntins are downright counterproductive

as unless you wish to make them purely cosmetic, they'd create a thermal bridge in today's multipane glazing systems

(which can cause not only energy efficiency issues, but can even void the listing on a temperature rise rated frame)

Six Direction is the Teixcalaanli emperor, but yes, the author herself kept thinking about One Direction... to the extent that she and a friend gave the members of the band Teixcalaanli names.

Last time I checked, if you consume a book, you learn a new spell

If you're concerned about the book's dry and dusty taste, I suggest pairing it with 40 pounds of cheese and some ancient cabbage

@Ash I emulate combat encounters in those situations. I know how I will fight off bandits that block of my escape route when followed down a dark alley, how to escape from rabid direwolves, and even how to dodge homing missiles.

@Ash mm I mean I do actually have more fun doing other things, video games tend to be what I do when I don't have a book I want or that I'm ready for or when I'm rationing a book and don't want to do a group activity,... Geez I guess it's a whole chart

Well, I think it's one of those things that's missing from the equation. Almost no games support splitscreen anymore. It's either single player or online.

WE used to have a huge game night once a month, where we'd all go over to one guy's house, there'd be like, 12 of us, and we'd all bring tv's and our consoles, and just spread out through the house and play all sorts of Halo maps and game variants

What I wouldn't give to do that all again

@Ben Lately there keep being games I'd like to play with people but can't because the only multiplayer they support is splitscreen.

@Ben @Ash it would be great to have that kind of thing available again but I also just don't have many people to play games with in split screen anymore, I think that's a space RPG stuff and board/card games take up for me now

@trogdor Which is part of my point. Split screen isn't a main stream thing anymore, so there's no reason to go over and play games with friends.

IE more options is typically good

I think most of the freinds I have now aren't necessarily as interested in the video games I would want to play though

Anyway, for example I would love to play some Skullgirls for example with people in person but I think most people in my circle aren't the biggest fans of fighting games

And I've played it too much so they would need to want to get better at it (assuming again most of them don't play fighters) ,... It would be an unrealistic expectation if they haven't played a lot of fighting games

Stardew Valley has multiplayer though

That might also be interesting in a more relaxed way

I was best ever before Skullgirls at Soul Caliber, Mitsurugi, Voldo, Talim , and Lizardman (he was just a reskin of one of Cassandra I think but come on, that's obviously the skin I want,... Eww Skin )

He was like, molten stuff. His attacks were all about flinging fire at the opponent

I never owned one for the longest time (at least during the time I actively played a lot of video games) so I wasn't very good at them on the rare occasions I played at someone else's house or an event

(not counting Super Smash Bros Melee I guess)

If you are going to try to seriously learn what buttons do while playing that's the start you need

Even when I've looked up controls and tried to do the moves... I'm not very good at actually doing them

@V2Blast Yeah I found some games were worse than others in that regard.

There was one game (I think maybe the DC vs games) where unless you were using legitimate combinations, you were useless.

I think they actually took weight into account, so Talim got thrown way further than Astaroth.

Especially when some people have ridiculously sized axes or great swords from hell

She's one of if not the smallest character with the lowest reach at least in the versions I played

I liked her speed and moveset though, most of my characters were on the fast end

If you get in and get a hit first the big guys have trouble recovering

Meanwhile even the most heroic characters don't find Soul Caliber in game to game cannon

Just in story mode that means nothing in the next game

It's all about Soul Edge

Err I meant Caulibur up there

Waaay up there where I can't edit anymore XD

In fact I don't think there was even one character who finds Soul Caliber in the continuing story

But I think that might be because they can't afford to say one hero is better than the others

Whereas Soul Edge doesn't seem to be too picky

My knowledge is that Soul Caliber != Soul Edge. Soul Edge is the sword, and there is some confusion between the character "Nightmare" and "Soul Edge".

I was given to understand that Nightmare is basically the creature that exists because Siegfried got ahold of Soul Edge and now he isn't Siegfried anymore

and that Nightmare now technically wields Soul Edge,... and may actually like, be Soul Edge because it needed a body

but it's weird

I think they intentionally left a lot to interpretation

Ooooooh...Yoshimitsu has a prosthetic arm. Is there a "ninja with a prosthetic arm" legend in Japan that he and Sekiro are both based on?

I know there is a story of them making some for European Explorers because they were disgusted by those people eating with their hands

I have no idea how true that is though

and all it would mean is they would know maybe how to do a similar thing

he might have been one of the characters you only see in SC because they are a specific platform crossover or he may have been in a later version than I have played

I just had a cringey thought. The potential that Yoshi and Yoshimitsu were inspiration for one another (I.e. Yoshi from Yoshimitsu, or vice versa)
