Q: Short story fanfic about Batman and Robin investigating teenage girls who've suffered extreme cranial trauma

FuzzyBootsI think I read this somewhere in the early 2000s. Batman and Robin (I think the Dick Grayson or Jason Todd, definitely not Stephanie or Damian, but it could have been Tim Drake) are investigating a series of murders of teenage girls. The common thread is that they all seem to have been killed by ...

Pablo Honey is shit

@Jenayah Hah... I figured she should get as much credit as Carrie, at least.

@Stormblessed weird how adding a “the” before the last word like flips the meaning backwards.
Is it fair to DV answers to fanfic IDs? I automatically DV fanfic IDs (sorry, @FuzzyBoots)

@FuzzyBoots Carrie was somewhat useful and interesting although she doesn't really deserve a Robin title either. Stephanie is an utter waste of everybody's time
@Stormblessed it is, if you're think they're not interesting and don't reflect what you'd like to want to see on the site (IMO). Just a question - when you say "automatically", do you mean you do it yourself or have a script somewhere?

Alar61New to this site, so please forgive any errors in how I ask the question. I wound up deleting the question. It was one that took very little time once I found a mirror of Kmetyk's site and poked around a bit, and the story was less impressive than I remembered. With "The Boys" now becoming a movie, the idea of a supermanalogue forcing himself on mortal females is getting close to mainstream.

Kesavan MaharajanA week ago i asked a Question about the 3 Big twists in GOT the answers cleared me up on that, 2 of them has already been revealed and now after the episode 3 "The Bells" we all saw what happened Dany gone Full Mad Queen, is this the last one?? seems like a pretty big twist to me.

@TheLethalCarrot Trust me, I'm looking at the revisions now.

Null is secretly a SE Dev.

I thought the information is lost even to devs though

The revision history shows a rollback to my edit and his final edit (the short blurb left) in the same minute.
If he deleted the lipstick/pig line it was an accident, because he clearly added it back in after I deleted it.

Yeah, but I looked at the initial edit after the rollback, it wasn't the defacing we see there now but an edit to reword the lipstick line
He must have then edited to the deface line and deleted it
Within the grace period

@Null Yup, didn't take that one out because frankly that's what I think of the show as things stand. As you said if I can't keep it out, perhaps I shouldn't have answered. That was the right course and why I deleted it
@Null No, I deleted the pig line intentionally and replaced it with "In universe speculation".
You know you can just ask me instead of speculating, I am not a WIP work of fiction.

@Aegon It's a shame you can't leave that snark out because it's distracting from an otherwise well-researched and informative answer.

Q: Why doesn't it hurt to look at stars?

StormblessedIf I stare at the sun, it's bright and blinding due to UV radiation. However, if I look at a star in the sky, it doesn't hurt. What causes this loss of energy that would otherwise damage one's eyes?

2:07 PM
@Stormblessed It's not the fact that sunlight contains UV; UV lamps don't cause blindness. It's simply a matter of energy flux. Staring at the sun is like using a magnifying glass to incinerate ants, except the ants are the cells of your retinae.
(I remember reading long ago that if Alpha Centauri were 50% closer we'd be able to get a tan from the UV it emitted.)

The inverse-square law, in physics, is any physical law stating that a specified physical quantity or intensity is inversely proportional to the square of the distance from the source of that physical quantity. The fundamental cause for this can be understood as geometric dilution corresponding to point-source radiation into three-dimensional space (see diagram). Radar energy expands during both the signal transmission and also on the reflected return, so the inverse square for both paths means that the radar will receive energy according to the inverse fourth power of the range. In order to prevent...

@Randal'Thor Jaime's a name in Portuguese too ;)
Jaime is a common Spanish and Portuguese masculine given name for Jacob, James, Jamie, or Jacques. In Occitania Jacobus became Jacome and later Jacme. In east Spain, Jacme became Jaime, in Aragon it became Chaime, and in Catalonia it became Jaume. In western Spain Jacobus became Iago; in Portugal it became Tiago. The name Saint James developed in Spanish to Santiago, in Portuguese to São Tiago. The names Diego (Spanish) and Diogo (Portuguese) are also Iberian versions of Jaime. In the United States, Jaime is used as an independent masculine given name, along with given name Jimmy.For females, it...

@Stormblessed Long long story. It was less "self-promotion" than grudges left over from old stuff months before ... but all water under the bridge now.

@NapoleonWilson Quote markup would've hidden the ping and might've misled people into thinking it was me saying that.

@Randal'Thor Well, then it was a good work at that, too, since it sounds very much like I would imagine it.

Can I be a room owner for a minute please? Kind of curious about what it's like to have powers @Gallifreyan

@Stormblessed You can ... in your own room.

@Randal'Thor Clever idea

5:52 PM
It's easy to set up a room and do stuff with it.

Actually somehow didn't think of that

Anyway, Gall is going to have more powers anyway, by virtue of also being a mod ;)

@Loong At least he didn't drag out the SE employees' CVs in order to slander their professional reputation. ;-)

@NapoleonWilson Did I miss some Meta Stack Exchange drama?

6:02 PM
@Randal'Thor Nah, don't worry. Also, what drama? It would make for a totally valid and reasonable question, of course.

@Randal'Thor I think it was more of a reference to the borderline personal attacks on the GoT writers.

@NapoleonWilson What question? I didn't see any mention of a question.

@Randal'Thor Would, would.

There's a setting mentioning "even when this room is private".
How is a room made private?

6:03 PM
By a moderator. Used only for moderation purposes.

@Stormblessed You probably can't make it private.

@NapoleonWilson Wood, wood.

Can mods see who starred stuff?

If you spin the word "wood" around a bit it almost becomes "doom". Fire burns wood, and fire-breathing dragons bring doom. Daenerys is Illuminati confirmed.

Let me guess, you already checked if room owners can? ;-)
They also make buildings go "boom".

6:06 PM
@Stormblessed No. But anyone can see who pinned stuff.

@Randal'Thor How?

How do you bookmark a conversation?
Just found this tab

Click the room dropdown on the right.

@Stormblessed This one is more fun, if you want to see the history of SFF.

6:09 PM
@Mithrandir Did you get that notification at the top?

@Randal'Thor Can't see it; I don't have 10K total and the Wayback Machine doesn't have much more than the tab archived.
@Mithrandir It said that the bookmark was made
Hi, @Catija

Is it normal for a chat room to have this many mods hanging out? Gallifreyan has been quiet for a while, but there are still 4 others not counting a CM...

Nah, we've been told this chatroom is bad news and we better keep an eye on it. ;-P
2

Shh, don't tell them!

6:15 PM
Vote to reinstate the mod-counting bot :P

(In reality, moderators are also just...really active SE people.)

Mods are people?
2

@DavidW I'm pretty sure that Napoleon, Rand, Gall, and I have all been hanging out in the SFF room since long before we became mods.

@Jenayah Yes!

Gee, they hand out humanship to anyone these days.

6:17 PM
@Mithrandir Speak for yourself. ;-)

@NapoleonWilson okay, you maybe not :P

@Mithrandir see @Stormblessed you're on the right track

> Galla..., Galli..., Gallimimus!
Dude sure has gall to be sitting in the room all the time, though.

Come join my chat room! We have two mods and lots of abstract nouns!

@Stormblessed But do you have any nous?

6:26 PM
@Stormblessed but do you have a flaaaag?

@DavidW Wow, that's a heavy insult (mainly because I realized I don't have any due to not actually knowing that word)

@Stormblessed I was talking about the collective of the room, not you personally; I'm sorry that felt like an insult.

6:44 PM
@DavidW forgot to type a “/s”, no worries
Wasn’t insulting to me

Q: Story or Novella about Remote Controlling/Possession Human Beings

Mark SchäferThe setting of the story is about that any human being might be controlled/possessed at any time by unknown forces. Society as a whole seems to have adapted, there are even laws governing such incidents. Nevertheless, life is quite gruesome. I remember one scene in which it is described that peop...

7:23 PM
@Mithrandir ... And I wasn't?

@Catija I wasn't counting you as a mod. You've gone next level already.

@Mithrandir :( Somedays I miss being a mod.
I miss getting to just hang out places and chat. I haven't learned how to adjust.

I guess that's one downside of "doing what you love". You can't just enjoy it as a hobby anymore when it's your job.

Q: Book Identification: YA book about airplane crash in child's backyard

jdude97I read this book in elementary school but pretty sure it was a novel on the longer side targeting at middle schoolers. The main plot was a major airliner, possibly a 747, crashing. I believe it was in the backyard of the house where the main character (a child) lived, and I think the house was a ...

Q: Is it confirmed anywhere which of the Raith sisters appears in Wild Card?

anonOther than Lara Raith that is. A total of three (non-deceased that is) other Raith sisters appear in the Dresden Files Wild Card comics, none actually referred to by-name in comic and them all being seen together here. And only here. After the training session, one at least (at the back by t...

Q: Has a three-eyed Raven ever ruled Westeros?

JJJThe three-eyed Raven knows a lot. In particular, this knowledge could be used to exploit others. As Varys once implied, information is power. Has a three-eyed Raven ever been the Ruler of Westeros? That is, has a three-eyed raven ever sat (and not just for a photo) on the Iron Throne? If that ...

Q: Did Jaime ever mourn Joffrey's death?

alec_aThe only scene with Jaime and Joffrey's corpse has Jaime raping Cersei instead of mourning his son. Did I miss a scene, or did Jaime simply not care about Joffrey? I'll accept book answers.

They got their hands on a leaked copy of the leaked episode.
They're planning leaks ahead now.

Oh, I see.

I didn't even hear about the leak.,
I predicted that BRAN Stark would become the all-knowing dictator of Westeros all on my own
Bran Stark is kind of like Santa Claus, right?
He comes from the North.
Wears furs.
Sees you when you're sleeping and knows when you're awake.

@Adamant but he doesn't have reindeers

@Jenayah does he or does he not travel in a sledge though?

What is the sledge tracted by?

@Jenayah idk, I don't even watch the show

Me neither :'D
yesterday, by Jenayah
I don't watch the show remember?
yesterday, by TheLethalCarrot
Ah you're different to the others that don't watch it, don't bring it up enough :P

@Adamant There are more of us than I thought...

9:52 PM
Who needs to watch it, we know what's going on with SFF questions anyway
Heck, that even got me curious about who will safely land their buttocks on that throne
I'm still rooting for the dragon
Or the dead guy from season 1, brought back from the dead by the Ice Zombie Boss, whose frozen atoms will have been gathered by a nostalgic thawed dragon, resurrected by the power of brotherhood that united it with the other one.
Also dragons only go by two. A big one and a smaller one. So they're like, Sith dragons.
And in the end, reptilian Yoda sits in the Throne.
And they still bring up a surprise ninth season, with the Ice types brought back. So it's up to Fire, Fight and Rock Pokémons to save Westeros.
Gandalf is also there.
He's been brought from the skies by the Enterprise.
Yeah, the nonsense'll stop here.
Gee, to think some people need to drink to sprout out that kind of shit. I'm above these commonfolk matters :-)

Q: Is death by Dragon painful in game of thrones?

alec_aBy this, I mean death by direct fire, like Varys's and the Tarlys' death. Their deaths are often described as "burned alive," but they seem near instant, unlike Melisandre's execution method of choice

Q: Is Drogon the last dragon?

alec_aI'm not really sure where Dany got her eggs from. Are they the last eggs? With no Dragon to mate with, is Drogon the last dragon that will live?

10:43 PM
@Marvin No, it's painless, because dragon fire is a natural analgesic.
@Marvin I've heard that Daenerys will turn into a dragon. I can't vouch for the accuracy of this rumor, though.

@Stormblessed Hi.
@DavidW Sounds like something I might ask.

Q: How is Missandei's name pronounced?

menaci342How is the name Missandei from Game of Thrones supposed to be pronounced? I've heard characters like Grey Worm and Daenerys pronounce it very differently to how the showrunner pronounces it here: (3 minutes and 13 seconds in).

Q: Why didn't Danaerys do this when she first landed in Westeros?

ChloeIf Danaerys from Game of Thrones could destroy the entire city by herself with only one dragon, why didn't she attack and destroy King's Landing when she first landed in Westeros, had 3 dragons, and there were no giant crossbows?

That was quick.

From the title I thought this would be a pedantic question I’ve wanted to ask for a while.
