Glad to see you rejected that edit. amflare must not have been paying attention.

Dang, I hadn't realised someone approved. Shit, I mean I can understand requesting in comments to tamper down the political tone, but the edit reason reeked of bad faith

I notice these things sometimes because (recalling a previous discussion) I use the back button to go back to the review page... 'Cause I'm weird or OCD or something. :)
And yeah, the edit definitely smelled off.
Especially contrasting the source of the original to the anonymous user, and I verified that language was original to DVK-on-Ahch-To, not added after.

Or you can just go in review > Suggested Edits > History > click the stuff linked on Rejected/Approved ;)

@Randal'Thor Roooh people don't understand irony

4:25 PM
@Jenayah I'll tell you what's really irony.
An iron.

Q: any books about pushing earth itself when the sun dies?

shirishI just saw yesterday The Wandering Earth Project . While it is a chinese movie, pretty well-made, this is perhaps the first time I came across the concept of using propellers, earth-engines to push Earth itself to another galaxy. While I haven't come across a story such as this, have there been ...

Q: In Avengers 1, why does Thanos need Loki?

Alex KinmanIn Avengers 1, the main plot is that Loki is trying to conquer earth on behalf of Thanos so that the latter can get hold of the Tesseract and put his "restore the balance" plan in motion. Q: (SPOILER) What happened to Iron Man's Armors from Mark 51 to Mark 84?

Meraj Al Maksud MasukWe see Tony Stark using the Iron Man armor Mark 50 during the events of Avengers Infinity War. Then when we watch Avengers Endgame, we see him donning Mark 85 armor. So where are the rest of his armors between Mark 51 and Mark 84? Why they were not shown in the movie (like in Iron Man three we s...

Q: If this character does not return to their timeline, won't it cause problems?

chintanrparmarAs mentioned by the Ancient One in Avengers: Endgame, if you don't return to the exact moment it would affect reality, so shouldn't Gamora from 2014 return not to affect the reality/timeline?

Q: Melisandre's Green Eye Prophecy for Arya

MJ13In s08e03 we see Melisandre and Arya meet for the second time after Season 3 when Melisandre said to Arya back then: "I see a darkness in you. And in that darkness, eyes staring back at me. Q: Why wasn't the Night King naked in S08E03?

catichenorSo we know that the Unburnt (e.g. Daenerys Targaryen) are fireproof, and presumably the Night King is one of the Unburnt. However, the Night King's clothing is unharmed after an extended blast of dragon's fire (Game of Thrones S08E03), unlike Daenerys' previous encounters with fire. Why is this?

Q: Book where alien takes over teenage boy’s body, boy teaches alien how to fit in

Coffeepen I read a book probably 8 or so years ago (don’t know when it was originally released) about an alien who overtakes the body of a teenage boy. From what I remember, the alien operates the body while the conscious mind of the boy talks to him from the inside and teaches him how to live in the worl...

Q: Why didn't Avengers need this equipment?

ZikatoIn the Avengers: Endgame we see them use So how is it possible, that without this equipment Captain America and Iron Man can Even more so at the end when

@Jenayah Of course in this case we probably can't just take the Word of God for it

True, true. That doesn't mean edits aren't mandatory though roll eyes

Q: Swords/action/fantasy/magic anime: main character is a bit of a failure, always follows the rules and carries a sword, unlocks his magical ability

CamI saw an anime quite a long time ago and for the life of me I can't remember what the name of it is. It's a magic/fighting/fantasy based anime and the main character is fighting, and then there is another entity that appears, he then gains this kind of ability, and gets given this kind of armour...

I tried to make that new title not generic, not covering at least 20 different animes.
I failed.
@Donald.McLean not much research indeed...
Cue @Alex's CTRL+F answer quoting every mention of Luna's blonde hair, and then disagreeing with JKR on the fact that Luna has blonde hair, because of other unclear quotes in fuzzy situations which might have Luna having non-blond hair.

Like, they say they're sure that Heidi appreciated their poem
Based on their own assessment of her facial expressions

@Jenayah Did she ever say that Luna doesn't have blonde hair?

I dunno

Or they're just outright lying.

7:58 PM
Argh, your edit invalidated my question.

Why would Luna have gray hair? Is she not a teenager?

Because of Snargles

@Jenayah But that would be a great answer (at least in my opinion).

> She had straggly, waist-length, dirty-blond hair, very pale eyebrows, and protuberant eyes that gave her a permanently surprised look.

But I'm in the middle of answering a Harry Potter question on a different site.

8:00 PM
Although a very small number of children are born with fully or partly gray hair.
Or develop it due to chemicals or other factors

@Alex ELL?

@Jenayah Yes. (Not that hard to guess.)

MTV, ELL, ELU, Lit...

@Mithrandir I don't have an account on the first one, I've never posted an answer on the second one, and we have previously discussed answering Harry Potter questions on the third one.

@Adamant I've known young people with grey hair. Among other things, it's not an uncommon side effect of some forms of epilepsy.

8:03 PM
I'm suspicious of some of those ELL Harry Potter questions.

@Mithrandir Mi Yodeya as well

@FuzzyBoots Yeah, I did mention that such people do exist. But compared to blond hair., not very common.

And that's before getting into how grey hair and light blonde hair are fairly similar, the difference between pale translucent hair and colorless translucent hair.

@Jenayah Quite rare, but technically possible.

@Adamant how so?

8:05 PM
@Alex Adar is over...

But the HP question wasn't PTIJ
Wasn't it?

@Jenayah Look at you with the lingo.

@Jenayah I think some people might have noticed that they tend to go to NHQ

@Alex could teach @Rand a thing or two :P

Ultimately, in this case, there's just really no evidence that her hair isn't the described blonde color. Even more so with the occasional mentions of "dirty blonde" indicating that it's not necessarily even that light a shade (or that Luna needs to shampoo more often)

8:06 PM
@Alex :D

And thus write some questions that they may already know the answer to.

@Adamant oh, so they'd do it for rep/badges

Right.

I mean... XKCD 810

@Adamant There's one user there who has steadily been working (his?) way through the books and asking questions the whole way through, over several years. Those are the ones that I answer, and I think they're in good faith.

8:07 PM
Huh. I wonder why Coffeepen deleted their other question. It seems a reasonable one.

Or look at this one from English:

Q: What does "America's ass" mean (referenced in an "Avengers: Endgame" quote/scene)?

ermanenHere is the "Avengers: Endgame" quote and a photo from the scene: Tony Stark (Iron Man) referring to Steve Rogers' (Captain America) butt: Mr. Rogers, that old suit design did nothing for your ass. Scott Lang (Ant-Man) disagrees and says: You look great, Cap. As far as I’m concerned, t...

I'm not even beginning to see her grey-haired in their question

If people are writing decent questions that could help other people, motivated by rep / badges, that's the incentive system working as designed.

@FuzzyBoots ah, crap. Was about ot start digging for it

I suppose we don't have much ground to reverse the deletion... not like anyone else could prove it if Coffeepen doesn't want to pursue it.

8:10 PM
Well we can find the thing and nudge them in a comment

Who knew that Good Omens is going to be a musical? Coming soon to a Broadway near you.
cc @Gallifreyan

O_O

@Mithrandir But what about when people write questions with titles or subjects that designed to go to HNQ, but might not be so good?
Like "How old is Rey?" (from this really obscure comic) .

@Randal'Thor Do the Other Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse get to sing?
@Adamant something that's low quality should be downvoted and won't go to the HNQ. So then, they'll need to step up their game

@Mithrandir Oh my god :-D

Q: Does Batman have a contingency plan for Alfred?

RobertIt's well established in comics and animation that Batman has contingency plans for immobilizing or neutralizing his various allies, should it become necessary. Has there ever been any mention of whether he has such a plan in place for Alfred?

@Mithrandir I guess we've been around long enough to know that a number of low-quality questions do reach the HNQ.

@Randal'Thor Oh, sure, but hopefully with the new changes that are coming to HNQ that'll get better.

You're optimistic :-)

Harry actually has grey hair, but low lighting levels make it look black

@Randal'Thor Well, if something no longer goes into HNQ for getting a lot of answers within a short time, and has a minimum age, and takes downvotes into account...

8:22 PM
yes
that's clearly better

Tbh, I'm not keeping up on the news about it.
But we'll see.

Oh that's too bad. That's like, a positive change for once

A: Possibility to hide questions with ignored tags?

StormblessedTo plagiarize my answer on a Movies Meta: This changed at some point and is not in preferences; now the way to hide tags rather than just gray them out is a box on the right side of the homepage: If you click the Hide questions in your ignored tags button, they will be hidden now:

It’s fun to self-plagiarize

10:49 PM
@Stormblessed It's not plagiarism if you mention it.

uh, I thought there'd be more than that.
ah indeed there's one more... but it's got a typo
will edit tomorrow I guess, lots of old stuff brought back on the homepage already
