Q: Are *all* list questions off-topic?

KutuluMike"List questions" are generally off-topic on Stack Exchange sites, and Science Fiction & Fantasy in particular, because they tend to be open-ended, generate debate, have some level of personal preference, and not meet the criteria of being "answerable". But there are plenty of list questions on th...

Q: Revisiting list questions... (please read before downvoting)

John OAs I understand it, list questions tend to take over the SE site such that other worthy questions are (relatively?) ignored. Q: Who has green eyes and was/were killed by Arya?

KharoBangdoIn Game of Thrones S08E03, when Arya meets Arya says she was right that Brown eyes are pretty common but do we know anyone with green eyes that Arya has shut forever?

@Alex @Mithrandir suggested I was confused about that.
I may have jumbled up stuff I read on the SO meta back when I was a new user.

@DavidW Certainly a possibility. I was just pointing to where Stormblessed had previously been involved in such a discussion.

@Mithrandir Hi, how should I flag that question? I figure you might know due to your mod knowledge
It is a troll, but not necessarily rude? I don't know what to flag it as

@Stormblessed There's a flag choice that allows you to write anything you want.

@Alex But that either bothers mods (says after pinging a mod) or is an off-topic flag
Oh, never mind
wait how does RA work? I can't close as that

@Stormblessed It's not a close reason.

@Alex So how do things get closed as it?

@Stormblessed They don't.

4:09 AM
@Alex What happens, then?
What action should I take on the post is my question?

@Stormblessed They can get deleted.

I did RA flag and close as other with this is a troll question

@Stormblessed You have three options, I think: 1) Do nothing. 2) Custom close reason. 3) Custom flag.

We know that Silver's height is 100 centimetres.
His shoulders look like about 1/6 that.

Therefore 1 heal bone and six vertical stroke centimeters. Someone write that in hieroglyphs and we have an answer?!

@Alex well movies aren't always faithful adaptations ;)

@Jenayah I think you have a typo.

You think I should've written "are always"?
Ah, true, it'd be more in line with the snark.

Ever is spelled e-v-e-r not a-l-w-a-y-s.
@DavidW If it’s any comfort, many (most?) of the frequenters of this room weren’t even born in 1989.

@Alex there are very good adaptations out there. Sin City (the first one) comes to mind.
@Alex I don't think that's going to comfort him... Rather Make him feel old ahah

@Jenayah Well imagine how much worse He would feel if I had said 1999.

7:48 PM
You have that backwards.

@Jenayah No.

David will feel older knowing that people are generally in their 20s, rather than in their 30s
Wait
Nevermind

I was going according to your reasoning.

I just proved myself stupid. I'll show myself out

Which is why I need an answer to this question:

7:49 PM
@Jenayah How does that go? "You kids get off my lawn!"

Anyone have a good English term for a לשיטתך argument?
Adapted here:
1
Q: Term for an argument that is only valid because of another view that the person you're arguing against holds, that you disagree with

Dr. ShmuelCouldn't think of a better title. But this is is the gist: an argument that is only valid because of another view that the person you're arguing against holds, that you disagree with. You said cats are no. I say dogs are no. But don’t even try and tell me cats are yes because you already said ...

Dang, now I want to watch an Eastwood movie.
@Alex I think I understood the question's title better when it was written in Hebrew.

@Jenayah Well, I didn't write the English title. In any case, I tried to clarify it in comments there.
I would say it's more like you say "It's okay to kill cats" and I say "it's not okay to kill cats because you previously expressed the opinion that cats are people", and really I believe that it's not okay to kill cats because I believe it's not okay to kill animals. — Alex Jan 24 at 6:54
Put simply, someone says something that is refuted by something else they have said, but you happen to believe that the something else is not true. So your argument that refutes the new statement is only valid according to the person you are refuting, but not according to yourself. — Alex Jan 24 at 6:45

This is like reading your meta posts about dupe-closure and POB stuff. The first third I understand fine, then there is a separation/comma between two propositions of yours and it snaps. All of a sudden the "reading voice" in my head screams "WAIT, I'VE LOST IT ALL, I DON'T UNDERSTAND ANYTHING ANYMORE, WHAT THE FUCK IS GOING ON", with blaring sirens and red flashing lights.
No offense. :P

@Jenayah Is it really that bad?

7:59 PM
It can be...
But that's part of your charm :P

@Jenayah Well feel free to ask me to attempt a better explanation of any particular point. (Though it sounds like you'd rather not have to deal with it at all.)

Sure (but yeah, I'm avoiding brain knots these days :P )

Maybe we can untie some of them?

A - > B, A = 0, B = 1.

Nah I didn't say I had some, just that I didn't want some :P
@Adamant yeah...?

8:06 PM
@Jenayah But there are clearly some residual knots from when you've ventured past the first third of my posts...
Oh, that explains why you haven't read my other post.

That's the easy version of the question
A is false, B is true, but A being true implies B is true.

Oh no, those aren't knots, they're traumas.
@Adamant yeah it's probably best if I just continue not to care :P

Socrates is a human implies Socrates is mortal, but Socrates is actually a dog and is nonetheless mortal.

@Jenayah I hope you recover.

Ahah non worries

8:10 PM
Maybe it's better in French?
Selon toi

Socrates est un homme.
Tout homme est mortel.

How about, no xD

That's about as far as my French goes, anyway.
I can understand a bunch when people write it down though.

@Jenayah Okay, back to Hebrew then: לשיטתך

Ah, nice. It's clearer in Hebrew.

8:25 PM
Speaking of which, I just accidentally wrote an edit summary in Hebrew and now I can't change it without making a new edit.

8:46 PM
Ahahaha

10 points if you can figure it out.

Q: Why didn't Doctor Strange summon the whole army in Infinity War?

Adhyayan NegiIn Infinity War, why did he even let Thanos snap in the first place by letting half of them die and even giving away the Time Stone in the process only to later be reverse snapped back into existence? The Time Stone doesn't exist anymore either. So what will the Sorcerer Supreme guard now? Doct...

scifi.stackexchange.com/posts/194733/revisions I mean I had my idea it'd be the latest post you'd have edited but I drifted off somewhere else ahah

You've got a mem sofit at the end of a word there.
Did you write it backwards?

@Jenayah Ha, I meant figuring out what I meant, not which post it was.
@Adamant It's not actually a Hebrew word. It's an English word accidentally mapped to Hebrew characters.

@Alex Oh

Q: Why was the second line of the Battle for Winterfell comprised of catapults?

starseekerI don't really understand why they had the second line using trebuchets and catapults instead of the last line next to the wall, so they could continue to fire. Feels like it closes down the retreat path having them close to the wall but I don't know. Maybe someone can explain?

Q: Why did Melisandre do this in GOT S08E03?

SavaTrying to keep the question as spoiler-free as possible, thus the generic wording. So, in The Long Night, at the end, we see Melisandre It makes little sense to me that she would do that after managing to survive through the whole battle. She did told Seaworth that she was going to die, when ...

Google Translate thinks it means something.
It says: A tree is a tree.
Wait.
Formatting
Aleph mapped to T, how odd

@Adamant For me it says "Sarshan tree"

Because you got rid of the F?

@Adamant Yes. Did you figure it out, or you just converted the keyboard?

Google Translate told me.

Your Google Translate seems to be better than mine.

9:17 PM
You shouldn't have gotten rid of the F.
It can't recognize it without that.

When I add in the f it justs give me a different translation.

It doesn't say "Did you mean formatting?"

"the tree is a tree" or ""blacksmiths f" or "United States f"
@Adamant No.

I guess my Google is the best Google.

Oh, actually it thinks the last one is Yiddish.

Q: What's the role of Melisandre?

MJ13I was always confused with this character (Melisandre) and was never sure about the purpose she was serving in the show. It seems to me that she had been always serving the Lord Of Light. That's why she had so many visions in flames all this time and had some sort of superpowers. However,she made...

Q: Were any of the stories used in "Star Trek: The Animated Series" rejected from the TV show?

SeamusthedogI have just started watching Star Trek: The Animated Series and was wondering if any of the stories come from unused scripts from TOS? So far it is as fun and camp as the TV show and the few episodes I have seen certainly fit with the original.

Q: How did Arya get back her dagger from Sana’a?

MomchillI am not sure how this plays out in the books as I haven't read them, but I just watched the last episode of GoT and it went down like this: Arya gave her dagger to Sansa at the beginning of the episode before Sansa made her way to the cript. A whole lot of shit went down. Arya finds out she i...

Q: Did the blade that stabbed Jorah snap?

SeamusthedogIn GoT s8 ep3 when Jorah is fatally (?) stabbed defending Daenerys, does the dragon glass blade snap? Rematches it a few times now and can't tell if the full blade is there when pulled out. If not, does that mean Jorah can come back as the new Night's King?

Q: Why was the battle set up *outside* Winterfell?

Q: Why was Steve Rogers' yard so overgrown?

BrettFromLAAt the very end of Avengers: Endgame, we see a scene that has the feeling of an epilogue. The camera starts on a suburban street. A red car from the 1940's (which looks brand new) drives by. The camera moves up to a house that has a somewhat-overgrown yard, with untrimmed plants, a few of which a...
