@DavidW are those Imperial Radch books any good? I keep ending up editing their questions for tags

1:32 AM
@Stormblessed I thought they were great. Some of the best recent SF I've read, and far better than some of the other crap that gets raved about. (Don't get me started on Accelerando!)

Depends on whether you watch them back to back or not

true, I was considering calculating the time between release dates, but it's not funny enough for the effort :D

Q: How do we know Luthor intercepted Keefe's payments?

z13From fandom.com: Lex Luthor interfered all of Keefe's severance payments and returned them to Wayne Enterprises with hate words written in red. Where in the Ultimate Edition is that shown/explained? There's the scene with one of Bruce's employees giving him the returned cheques, but nothin...

Q: What was Keefe making/building before vandalizing Superman's statue?

z13In the Ultimate Edition, before Keefe went to vandalize Superman's statue and then got arrested (around the 34 min mark), he was shown to be making/building something using ropes, cans, duct tape, what was that? Nothing in the statue scene showed that stuff, apart from one spray can, which oug...

Q: Russian Mars Ascent Vehicle in the movie Red Planet, better images and how does it compare to NASA's MAV?

uhoh Source In this question I'm suggesting that there's a similarity between this actual spacecraft and one in the movie Red Planet. The real NASA spacecraft is also described in Wired's Martian Weight Problem: Mars Sample Return Version 0.7 (1998) which describes the image as Photograph of an...

Q: Why we only saw the N-1 starfighters in one film?

GaweyI thinks that this model have a really greate design an looks cool and futuristic, but we only saw this in the battle of naboo. I have a lot of questions about that: Why the rebels don't use it? Is exclusive from Naboo? Is a bad model in comparticion wiht others ( like x-wing or a-wing)? Are a...

Why are useless edits like this accepted?
Neither or is useful in any way to the question

They're not necessarily pointless in that if the OP added them they help categorise ids better but as a SE I would have rejected probably
As for why they are accepted? Robo reviewing? People think they are worth it? People not paying attention? People agreeing?
Take your pick

3:14 PM
/blink For some reason I'm having a great deal of difficulty reading "N-1" as a designation and not a value.
"N-1 starfighters" reads as though someone were trying to prove the general case of starfighters by induction.
2

Try reading it as the full name instead "Naboo N-1 Starfighter" :P

3:34 PM
@Stormblessed same as TLC, I'd have rejected that

@DavidW Seems likely that the person who created that designation isn't a math person, because I totally agree with you. Of course, I have an actual math degree.

@Donald.McLean I miss doing real math sometimes. I fondly remember the time I freaked out an interviewer by computing that the average case of a particular function was bounded above by the harmonic function.

@DavidW I'm not a mathematician, I'm a software developer who is just good enough at math so that I did a double major in college. Though, working on software for the Hubble, I have done some actual math.

@Donald.McLean I'm a software developer too; only difference is I did a math degree at college but wasn't good enough at it to pursue it into grad school.
And since some of my best grades were in courses like numerical simulation, I just naturally slid into software...

Q: '80s Short story collection containing the story "Doll" in which a each person had a surrogate doll that protected them from disease

AlopexI read this book in the early '80s, but it came from my father's bookshelf so could be older. The title was along the lines of 'The (n)th (something) Science Fiction Collection'. I can remember two of the stories in the collection. One was 'Doll' in which each person had a surrogate doll tha...

Q: Does any of the Hogwarts' staff has founded a family?

EvargaloIn the seven Harry Potter books, the reader meets about two dozen of Hogwarts' teachers, but I don't remember any of them having either a spouse or children. They are all grown adults, often even elderly, so this seems a bit surprising. After all, in the Muggle world, high-school teachers often ...

Kevin The KnightDo the teachers have any family (like husband, children and wife), or are they sacrificing their personal lives for the service of the school?

Yes?

No it does mention children

@TheLethalCarrot I meant the proposed dupe-target
It wasn't just about broads

You leaving your answer up?

That’s on the dupe target
oh you mean it wasn’t just about children? That’s why I said specific to broad
and yeah no reason to remove it really

Oooh you meant broad as the opposite of narrow... I meant broad as woman
@TheLethalCarrot didn't we have a similar conversation like a month ago after you deleted an answer on a dupe you didn't know was a dupe?

But leaving answers to dupes ain't great so I'd delete it myself but it's accepted, so I can't

either way as long as the answered didn’t know it was a dupe when they answered it isn’t really a major problem

@Alex not that one, but pretty close:

@Jenayah I thought you did that intentionally. Here I thought you were being very clever! :)

@DavidW :p

7:01 PM
@Jenayah I didn't mean to imply you're not normally very clever! I was just impressed because I thought you'd caught TLC's typo ("to broad" instead of "too broad") which changed the sense of "broad" from an adjective to a noun when I'd totally read right over it.

7:26 PM
@DavidW no worries ;) well for some reason and despite one year of SE I did indeed read "to broad" and not autocorrected to "too broad" ahah

@Jenayah If you keep it up we may have to reinduct you into the Pedants Club.

Actually, I just realized I probably don't want to know.
@Alex That is exactly what just occurred to me. And now I don't want to have thought of that.

Q: What are the titles and author of a series of short stories about humanoid weapons called "the claws"
