Q: Does Slughorn genuinely like Harry?

user50780I was wondering if Slughorn genuinely appreciates Harry and actually likes the person he is? or if he just want to see if Harry defeats Voldemort, not caring whether or not he survives, as he just wants to erase the anguish from telling Voldemort about Horcruxes.

Q: 1st Mars landing story-Read in eighties

Emsley WyattTrying to remember a "first landing on Mars" story. Read in the eighties, short story, not a novel. Q: JK this the an answer from a fan of show called Sword Art Online. About Halliday at the end of RPO

Doom_The _Fox16My personal theory is that Halliday pulled an Akihiko Kayaba. Kayaba dies in episode 14 but not really, he uploads his conscience to the VR world using a high res(?) scan of his brain. Yes, the process fried his brain but he successfully transferred his conscience to the game. This makes sense...

11:13 AM
how popular is story id amoung the seasoned participants at scifi?

What do you mean by "popular"?
As in, liked or volume?

liked
do your most regular participants enjoy story id questions?

As far as I know, yes

I ask, because at EL&U many of the "high end" participants dislike single-word-requests, but that tag is our most used
and @NeoDarwin was saying story id dominates the front page, which sounds a little disparaging

No, SciFi.SE actually is the example (if not the only one) of an SE site that generally tends to appreciate their ID department.
(Individual detractors notwithstanding, of course.)
(Interestingly, though, it doesn't actually dominate the frontpage right now. I've seen worse, even on SciFi.)

11:44 AM
@MattE.Эллен maybe it's because that's a different kind of ID? Like, story-id on SFF might make the "high end" participants discover new stuff, whereas on ELU it's "just" one word
Not that it's a bad thing or stuff, but discovering/remembering a book is generally more thrilling than a single word. I think.

It's...a ton of factors, site history, community attitude, and star constellations really. But I guess that might be part of it, too.

Plus I don't know if SWR lead to the same kind of "hunt". Can't speak for others, but apart from discovering stuff and helping people, I think that's what I like the most in story-id, the "hunt" part :D

Oh, I'm sure figuring out a word can be an equally engaging riddle excercise.

Can't speak about what I don't know :)

I love story Id
It helps people become happier
Always appreciate people using google fu to find books and stories, I am pants at it so I appreciate it much more than others

11:50 AM
I also think (though, not know) that there's only a minority of hardcore ID answerers that like you do actively Google-hunt for stuff they haven't actually read themselves. I'd assume the majority of people just answer from what they know in their wealth of reading/watching experience, like e.g. user4XXXX and his M&TV equivalent Walt. (Not that this can't be an equally satisfying experience.)

I only read hot garbage so I can never help just from memory

Jan 22 at 22:26, by Jenayah
> 1. I found the thing by Googling/browsing SFF
2. I remembered the thing from a previous ID of mine
3. I knew the thing beforehand
4. I expanded a "I found it, it's ___" comment into an actual answer

You could further separate 1) into external and intra-site resources/search.

A: Why is it when Goku turned Super Saiyan God Super Saiyan against Frost, it was regular yellow not blue?

@Jenayah yeah, most people are annoyed that questioners expect us to play a guessing game, despite the requirements for SWRs. Getting people to give us a enough context and reasons why obvious words aren't suitable can be like pulling teeth. Sometimes they can be good fun, but most of the time the OP just won't put the effort in

Is it possible to make a triple-nested bullet list in a post?

Markdown works well enough for indented lists but when you want numbered ones and stuff html is easier

@Jenayah Sure.

How should the [disney tag] be used?
The excerpt says nothing about when to use it
Neither does the tag wiki

I think it should be used for Donald Duck and Mickey Mouse, what we consider classical Disney. In case of Star Wars and Marvel which are owned by Disney, use it when discussing the Disney aspects of those franchises.
