@Sentinel, are you online? Your question today on Information Security hiring is very interesting. Want to chat a bit given SE does not like excessive comments

Q: Information Security hiring

SentinelI was discussing an issue with an ex-colleague. He is currently assisting (as an HR member) with hiring for an Information Security department, where the Information Security team are responsible for providing technical interviews, the HR team is supposed to be helping with psychological profilin...

I work in cybersecurity and also interview candidates so I can definitely shed some light. Will also be posting an answer soon

Q: How can this question regarding ADHD in the workplace be improved?

dwjohnstonHow do people with ADD manage in the tech industry This question was voted to close as 'too broad', but has attracted several upvotes and answers. I have ADHD myself - so I have an interest in this question. Personally - I think it's a perfectly acceptable question - though I'd argue that he...

Morning. So after an afternoon of anxiety relating to a dentist appointment, I realised I had the date of the appointment wrong, so I have to go through that anxiety all over again in a week's time.

I do that all the time.. I'm certain I have a problem reading calendars
I thought I'd booked my holiday wrong yesterday and I had a mini panic attack. Until I scrolled a bit further and realised I'd crossed into May

9:07 AM
morning all

9:21 AM
Good morning. Another fun day of drag-drop development and Excelling.

Morninh
@Snow r u out of that dom of documentation u were surrounded with"

Yes, that ended late last year. I have no idea what happened with that project.

docs r achieved for future uses. I remember the place i was 2 yrs ago (the a manager), he asked me to document even my click of what I use to do and how before I left the company

9:36 AM
Yeah, all of those weeks worth of work from numerous devs got shelved. Project went nowhere.

old is gold.
I remember when python was just a language, now it is the future of "AI" and "ML".

Morning folks. Getting ready to start the day with another round of the daily grind.

Saved the company 1.5 million last week. It was a good week.

morning @RichardU
woah that's a lot
they shld get u tesla and a pay raise immidiately

@Nofel I have joked that rather than a salary, I would accept a commission. If you can get to a point where you can tie yourself into the revenue stream, you make it very hard for a company to get rid of you. "Gee, we paid him 'X' last year, but he brought in 'X' * 10 dollars in revenue". Do you think we should fire him?
The answer would be "no"
This is why it is always a good idea to be able to quantify what you do
The great thing was it was one of those things where the company was losing money every day there was no solution to the problem, and my solution was quick and simple

"focus on solution, not the problem"
I remember that golden words

12:03 PM
@Nofel There is a picture I have, that shows a cat, in a cat-carrier, with the top off, but the cat is staring at the cage door.; and isn't getting out of the carrier. IT has a caption that says "Sometimes you're so focused on the problem, you don't see the easy solutions"

In that case, there is another prescpective. in life ur moulded such way that even u know u can do something but due to negativity hammering of some senior make u think u can't even before u try.
it becomes autopilot in u. my 2nd manager was like that. later in life i realized it wasn't me. he was a non-web person sitting on over head as a "Manager". he was part of sinking whole company.

This new question is juicy
who's taking the gold badge

I left before the boat sunk but my mind had been paralyized by his tantrum. I thought so much I was wrong n to this date when I see something cannot be done coz that is how html elements r done. I laugh and cry over how much I use to tell him that but he use to tell me I was incompetent while my peer never backing me too coz they didnt know too as there field was backend and database.

everyone apparently hahahhaa

Q: Locating comments moved to chat

Peter MSo I add a comment to a question and I can track the question I commented on by digging into my profile and looking at my history. But it turns out that this was a contentious question and a large number of people also added their own comments and someone came along and moved them all to chat as...

@Twyxz while I agree with 90% of your answer I think the last line is an assumption too far
far more likely the manager is just crap at what he does
doesn't change the conclusion though - the OP is best off out

Change the 10% I get a vote right? @motosubatsu
Nah I believe he's out to get the OP just based off the past question this person has posted
It's too convenient

Q: What are the mainly used policies to evaluated interns/juniors besides personal interactions and/or interests?

JaneDoe82Context I’m a senior team leader and technical project coordinator at a medium size company (650 employees). The company was public until 9 or 10 years ago, when it was transformed in a (formally) private one (100% stocks are owned by public administrations entities and top 3 levels are directly...

Can someone elaborate the comments in this question
@jcm in my sub-division is not important (though it's a parameter I don't exclude a priori). In a department (general services) it is more or less the only skill required (it is the department where high level managers hire their young intimate friends, to use a metaphor). Well the other skill is the ability to perform their " special services" to managers (if you know what I mean ;) ) – JaneDoe82 23 mins ago
Specifically this one ^^

12:52 PM
@Twyxz the last question does make it look worse for the manager certainly.. but the thing is if they wanted him gone they could just let him go
he's been there < 2years
I think they are a crap manager certainly.. but the whole setting traps thing just feels too convoluted IMHO

I'm sitting here trying to think of other "special services to managers" that aren't wrong
but I can't think of any but tea making
this has to be a troll.. the question is just stupid

1:54 PM
@Nofel I had a similar experience 10 years ago. I can relate to having your confidence destroyed

2nd place for the weekly boards, second to Joe by 3 points hahaha hard lines

@RichardU After the last job I had, I come to term that interview is 2 way street. I wanna find out team and manager though the work practices and habit cannot be judged but the tole i am in ATM has been truly amazing.
I proved myself when they gave me new language and helped me too. I have crossed barriers which i couldn't have ever if I was with that manager at my last job

@Nofel the phrase "good fit", though a cliché, is an accurate one. In my current role, I am the perfect person for it. I fit the culture, I fit the tech, and I fit the need. And it fits my needs as well. I'm glad you are in a healthy environment.

The reason so many of us were screaming at you to get out is because we knew what was coming. We older folks have a bit more experience under out belts.

2:11 PM
@Twyxz congrats!

@Twyxz I've still got you on the monthly.
90,877 rep just over 9000 until retirement

@RichardU I lacked in skill, I still do. I wasn't guided. I got out of a cooperation job where I had bad non techincal manager, got into job where I was lacking knowledge, got laid, went freelance and made myself upto speed. did really well in freelance yet very behind in tech. moved to uk and tried switching career after my first job here as they have good pay, didn't work then that arse manager, and then switched job but it was too much, got it too. got this one then.
I am still behind but last yr and u guys have been real support to me.

@RichardU Not fair, it only started yesterday!
Sunday*

on other hand, when I was laid first time, they knew my parent run a educational insitute they told me u shld go there and expand it

"laid off" or "laid"?

2:20 PM
laid off
lol @Snow

Ah.

Well, you're screwed either way.....

@RichardU ^ who was that for

@Nofel laid, or laid off, either way you are screwed ;)

hahah
good one,yea

2:25 PM
Well... that depends doesn't it hahaha

both happened a lot to me in life ;)
but that make me ask if I am really slow and sluggish?
being laid off*
:D

@Nofel it happens to all of us, but what you need to do is become aware of the signs, and then head them off, or move on before the axe falls

@RichardU yes that what I noted in my diary
but humans... forget hard time in easy time
there is a saying in our culture and in english it translate to "This time shall too pass"

@Nofel the English version is "This too shall pass" and is well known.

it has a story with it, once a king asked his minster to find me some one who is very wise, so when he was presented to the king. the king said, write to me something that everytime I am sad, i see it and become happy and if I am happy, I see it I become sad.so he took his ring and carved on it "This time shall pass"
it is comfort to know that and live by it
coz nothing last forever, no happiness nor sadness, not joyful time not hard times.

2:40 PM
@Nofel I shock people when I tell them that I don't believe in hope, and that I have none. At first they think that it is a very sad state of being until I explain that I simply have action. If I am in trouble, I do not hope that things will work out, I make them work out. Even if I can't, I never stop my efforts. There is a strength in that.

ppl hope and do not work hard
and hope everything will be fine

2:58 PM
@Nofel

"Hope in reality is the worst of all evils because it prolongs the torments of man." -Nietzsche

@RichardU Only if u keep hope infront of u like dont work and say why things doesnt change than it is sucking blood and life out of u
bt if u work hard and I will better
getting better is byproduct of working hard
for some like me, we get lost in direction coz of circumstance or guidence done wrong

3:36 PM
@Nofel when you're lost, don't look ahead, don't look behind, just look at where you are.
This has three reopen votes now, can we get two more?

Q: How do people with ADD manage in the tech industry

ns1988My question is about techniques that people with ADD use to manage working in the tech community. I have ADD (the Attention Deficit Disorder and not the hyperactive type). I specifically picked the tech community because it's what I am in. In particular, it's a field that's not very tolerant or...

Reopen, please?

@Nofel no, the charge was leg by an annoying little biting insect, similar to a chigger
or a midge

@Nofel there is a particular user who it appears, if he had his way, would close every last question.
