Even though I'm not ashamed, I have no idea why I was invited to it

The downside of being a devops engineer... being asked to get involved in all projects and their opposites :p

it happens.. some times people are that worried about accidentally excluding someone who should be there that they overcompensate

and of course sometimes you get people who thing themselves/their information so damn interesting that they can't contemplate why anyone in the business wouldn't want to be there :D

I guess I still have a lot to learn about big corporates policies :)

I've been working here for a year, it's just that I used to work alone before this project

@avazula everyone does.. someone reaching a state of true understanding of corporate culture and policies causes an instantaneous shift in the nature of such - it's a perpetually moving goal

The management and working guidelines are quite different :)

I went from one place that had a management meeting once a month or so to somewhere where (and I'm not exaggerating here) I would spend 30+ hours a week in meetings

@motosubatsu wow, that's huge in both ways

many of which where status update meetings about projects that none of the attendees had made any progress on because of all the time they were spending in meetings reporting on their non-existent progress. That was a very dysfunctional place

yeah.. the end result was working ~12 hours a day to fit in doing both actual work and all the meetings, suffice it to say I exited stage right as soon as I could :D

@avazula Recovering friom an auto accident. The truly irksome part is thta the woman who hit me did about 4,,000 dollars worth of damage to an area of the car that I had just repaired.... figures eh?

@RichardU oh ... I remember you were talking about your car damages before, that you had the minimum insurance and that the damages were so expensive you could buy another car. Is that when that woman hit you or is it the fresh repairs you just did before the accident?

@avazula yeah, same accident. Since she hit me, it's coming from her insurance. My only problem is the car is worth less than the damages, so I won't get all the money back

there is a thing here, when damage is greater than repair cost. they give u money to buya new car

@avazula I'm not riding a bike in 5 degrees fahrenheit weather. And mass transit here is a joke. I could literally walk to work in less time.

@Nofel The repairs are cheaper than a new car, and the car is in otherwise good shape, and i've already had it fixed.

@avazula Yeah, the mass transit here is designed to get you to NY city or Philidellphia. Anywhere else is a nightmare

@Nofel When you get fully back on your feet, start building up savings. You want to be able to take a financial hit without having to sacrifice. I had my car back in 3 days because I could pay out of pocket.

Some general advice to all.

Spend less than you make
put away some money each week, and forget about it
Have a bank account you never withdraw from, only deposit.
Invest all that you can
Have a little bit liquid
If you use credit cards, never carry a balance.

Right now, I am living paycheck to paycheck. just bills and nothing. Hoping to get a good review and speaking of bank. My bank had be confused over spending, so changed it and checking new one. it is all online.

yes I took it from warren buffet, save first then spend what is left.

but problem with that is, I become hand to mouth, no extra spending like outgoing. I want to double my saving. I see my mistake. I played with my talent for long and people took advantage of it. I need to spend focus and enegry on me to double my income

Her sole reason for liking my previous car was the colour scheme. The fact that the gearbox sounded like it was going to strip it's cogs at any time didn't really matter a whole lot. Now I have a black car, it's judged as "not being as nice as the red car".

Since different countries can have wildly different labor laws and customs, I think a prompt to request the user to enter country of origin either in the post itself or the tags would be of great help. Would a question asking about leaving a job while on a PIP be on topic? I've seen some job applications specifically ask if you are currently on a PIP or in jeopardy of being terminated, so I think it might make a good question
