!!/whois admin

@thesecretmaster I am aware of 6 admins. Currently in this room: thesecretmaster, Undo, Andy, ArtOfCode. Not currently in this room: angussidney, tripleee.

!!/whois responsible for this command?

@thesecretmaster That is not a user level I can check. I know about code_admin, admin

Sometimes I feel like it'd be nice to have "ms devs:" or "runners:" commands that ping people automatically, but then I remember the potential for annoyance.

4:26 PM

@thesecretmaster Aye, I've thought that'd be useful too. Feel free to make it, if you have time - annoyance is what POB enforcement is for

@ArtOfCode Link to where that code lives?

the whois code?

search for def whois in chatcommands

MS going down, redis migration

@Undo Oh yay!
@Mithrandir We use this for whois? I don't want to bother PR-ing them if they don't want the feature.

4:33 PM
e.g. @RoomOwners

@ArtOfCode AR callbacks?

Warning: 15 latest connections to metasmoke have failed. Disabling metasmoke

@thesecretmaster you had an issue where posts had to be loaded into redis manually before search would work

@ArtOfCode Yes, there will need to be an initial migration, but after that new posts will automatically get loaded it.

@thesecretmaster so that'll need to happen every time I load a dump into dev?

Huh, is metasmoke really the only one that uses Redis?
Looks like Redunda and Sentinel don't care. Thought there was another one

@Undo sentinel/redunda etc don't

oh, PrimaryMonitor did. That's what it was

4:35 PM
@ArtOfCode How would I add a command that looks for (\w*)\: (\w*)?

@thesecretmaster that sounds like a bad idea
try @(\w+)\:? (\w*)

@ArtOfCode Only replies if $1 = valid group

yeah, but stick the @ on the front so we don't keep accidentally triggering it :)

teward/Solar Flare received failover signal.

well, I guess that's it. @thesecretmaster any good way to make sure redis is actually getting records on the new server?

@ArtOfCode I was aiming for tl-bot style, but I can do that as well

iBug/EC2 received failover signal.

I'm not sure we have a way for commands to scan all new messages, actually, chatcommunicate does all the command dispatch and abstracts it away from commands

Restart: API quota is 19886.

@Undo Did you migrate redis (with rdb/aof)? Or did you just spin up a new instance and connect?
Either would work

4:39 PM
Just spun up a new one

open up redis-cli, check info keyspace IIRC
it'll list key count, if that's > 0 you're good.
You can also list clients, but I don't remember that command off the top of my head

actually, I'm just gonna kill redis on the main server and see if it still works

CLIENT LIST

There we go, that works

@Undo I think rails might fail back to a FS cache automagically

That looks right

Yeah, 1 per thread seems right
If you want to be sure, you can check info keyspace but I think you're good

@Undo I think it should be obsolete, no? Because if redis fails, that's something we actually need to care about, and same for mysql... and same for passenger. Really, nothing should fail that a reboot would fix.

4:54 PM
That'd be awesome, 'cause then no one would use it.
Worth it to keep around if it means a few hours of uptime while I'm sleeping

Ok. I think we should re-evaluate in a month or so, because if it's not needed, we should remove it IMO. Things don't like being rebooted if they don't need to be.

also, someone want to make sure redis-cli -h 3.81.154.25 doesn't work for them? It's set up without any kind of authentication, just relying on AWS routing security.

I'd recommend adding a password
But it appears to not work for me

That's good enough for me. I trust security groups to do the right thing.

Multiple layers is usually better than one
